Broncos fans vent about loss to Raiders
L-O-N-G off season. Thanks again.
Both offensive and defensive coordinaters need to be replaced in the off season. Keep Mike Bell but sent Tatum Bell elsewhere. There are a number of personel changes in the defensive and offensive line. The Pass Rush needs to be pick up several notches. Special Teams has been much improved in the last few games but we need to work with that. The last thing we need is a change in Head Coach. We are blessed to have Coach Shanahan coaching for us. This is one of the finest coaches in the league. Fans need to get over John Elway and Gary Kubiak. Both were fantastic for us, but there gone. No-one will replace John Elway, but he's retired. Gary Kubiak has his own team now and will be very successful in the years to come. I liked Jake Plummer, but he took us as far as he could- we saw the best he was capable of. In closing- let me voice that old saying, that at one time was said every year,- Wait Until Next Year!!!- I am and I have great expectations.
See ya all next year... hopefully with a better cast of players, our draft options are better now and we didn't have a hope this year anyway...
Canadian Fan
good thing he has a stellar running back as his side kick.
Broncos will be fine. cutler is for real. knee jerk idiots who want to fire shanahan, he's such an easy target for the ignorant!!!
If we took defeat like you did (with your fire the coach and blame Cutler), Green would have been shot in front of the Liberty Memorial and Edwards would be flying up I-29 to the Iowa border.
You guys got spoiled in the late '90's, now take your dues.
I hate the chiefs more than all of you put together.
I still think they have a good chance to beat the colts a team begging to be beat in the playoffs.
I think the holes are too numerous to realistically think Super Bowl next year, but 2 years out could be a better opportunity. I'd say both lines should be top priority as well as running back.
Note to Denver: play 60 miniutes of ball next year EVERY GAME and for goodness sake STOP reading your press clippings until AFTER the games is played!
That's a bunch of garbage. Actions speak louder than words. If Pat really wanted to win he wouldn't put up with such complete incompetence year after year after year after year.
Oh, and by the way if no one likes it---tough--he'll just charge more for tickets next year.
"Cutler gives us the best chance to wine right now...?" I think not Mike. And by the way, would you please stop trading away GOOD 1000+ yard gainers and dump Tatum Bell. His costly fumbles along with Cutler's picks have cost us what could have been a solid season. Either the Broncos start strong next season or I say, with regret, dump Shanahan. His desire to win a Super Bowl without Elway to prove his coaching legacy has thus far proved a dismal failure.
Good night...!
How could you guys lose to a 6-9 team? The Chiefs put up 41 points on them earlier this season. And if it wasn't for conhermative edwards we beat you in the first game. You needed to win and you didn't! Cincy & Tenn needed to win and they didn't! KC needed to win & they did against a much better opponent. We may lose to Indy but we will at least be in the post season! I still think trading Portis for Bailey was a bad trade. Portis was your homerun threat that you sorely miss. Champ can't cover 11 guys.
They have lots of young players, but they are improving quick. They beat Seattle twice this year.
They ain't the Raiders.
Arrogance and contempt for the Niners shows a lack of preparation and real scouting of the opposition. Typical Shanahan conceit. You got to take every game seriously, and go for the jugular! You can't sit back and expect to win because the other team is a couple of games worse in the sstandings. In the NFL, 9 - 7 and 7 - 9 aren't very far apart.
The Niners have improved tremendously over the season, with their won - lost record a bit deceiving. Their young talent is just starting to play together and gain confidence. Let them hang around and they come on strong in the second half. Look at what they did to Seattle!
The Chiefs did what they had to and won. And they needed a lot more strange things to happen to get in the playoffs. All we had to do is win at home. When you lose a must game and even show arrogance about not wanting to back in, it looks like the coach over rated his team and under rated his opposition.
kicked our butts all day. justin Smilley and Larry Allen
treated the cleveland rejects
like girly men all game. Frank
Gore and his huge fb Moran Norris kicked our broncs in the
teeth. Nalen is a shell of what
he was in 97. Where have gone
Gary Zimmerman.
If you told me that the Niners would be down by 13 late in the first half and come back an won I would have said, "No Way."
The Niners got a lot of luck and created their own luck.
Great way to end the year for the Niners and while I would like to say I feel sorry for Bronco fans, I don't. I'm still bitter over the snowball incident in '85 in the Niner game against the Broncos when Matt Cavanuagh was trying to hold for Ray Werching for the winning kick.
No snowball today, eventhough there was plenty of snow.
Starters--Lepsis, Sapp, Wilson, Brown, Ferguson, Meadows, Darrent Williams
Backup Starters--Cox, Brandon
Backups--Keith Burns, Wesley Duke (remember him?)
There are more, but when you see how starter-focused our injuries were this year, the end result is really no surprise. I mean, c'mon, by the end of the season we had lost THREE DIFFERENT STARTING SAFETIES, our BEST DL rusher, and our PRO BOWL MLB. How long do you think the Bears could hold someone without Urlacher, their fourth-string free safety, and their best DE?
Cutler's pick led directly to a TD for SF. Without that pick Broncos win 23-16 and are playing the Pats next week!
Fair is fair, if you want to blame Jake for the 4 losses he had as the starter, then you have to blame Cutler for the 3 losses he had as the starter.
Whether you like it or not, this loss is on Cutler, he's the reason the Bronco's season is over!
oh yeah, KC 41 SF 0. Enjoy your offseason whinners.
he is just an average cordinator and one of the main reason our defense almost always lets the opposing offense march down the field and get away with the win(colts, chargers, hawks, cincinatti(almost) and now san francisco)
he made alex smith look like joe montana out there. He nees to be fired fired fired
Sad sad way to end a sad sad year.
The Donkeys season ended the day Mr arrogant or as you call him Shanahan announced he was starting Cutler with an eye on not just the playoffs but winning in the playoffs.
Same old Shanahan, throw someone else under the bus to cover his own short comings. As much as I agree with Plummer being an average at best QB,he did lead the Donkeys to the AFC championship game last year and a 7-2 start this year.Atleast Mr Arrogant got it right when he said, you are what you are.He just didn't finish the comment with what has been obvious since Elway quit,,,mediocre.
So here's to next season and hoping the Raiders pull off a miracle and find an offense to match their defense so maybe it will be the silver and black who put the final nail in another Donkey season.
Too bad about the Darrent Williams. I wish his family the best. I sure hope no one caused him harm because of the game. That would be a nasty, nasty blow. I guess a little too much snow collecting on the brain.
Bronco fans for their loss.
But after hearing of the tragic death of Darrent Williams, I offer my deepest condolences and prayers to his family and all Bronco fans.
It puts all this football in it's proper perspective.
Dave in K.C.
The coach is overrated. Where is ELWAY wen you need him?
I want to say "thanks" and do a little razzing, but rubbing it in isn't my style. As a Chiefs fan we've been where you are plenty of times, and I remember all to well the feeling...it quite simply makes you sick. In our long, storied rivalry we've seen plenty of twists and turns but this has to be one of the strangest for sure.
Just heard the news about the killing of Darrent Williams...that pretty much puts in perspective that football is just a game. So sorry for the Denver nation, what a horrible loss. I'll be praying for his family.
Peace,
Bruce
For three years previous, Shanahan has gone immediately out of his game plan (a balanced attack) as soon as he gets 7-10 points behind. He did it twice in Indianapolis and at home against Pittsburgh.
The result was pass, pass, pass, sack, sack sack followed by interception, interception.
Last year he had Jake Plummer needing oxygen.
This year the brilliant Shanahan let the fans decide to bench a 7-4 QB for an as yet unproven rookie... something a coach might do if a team were, say, 4-7 and out of the playoffs.
Yesterday, after his rookie was injured, Shanahan put him back into the game and, as usual, out of the game plan.
When will "Bum" Shanahan finally be charged with attmpted murder?
Your team should have been more serious about playing the 6-9 'mediocre' 9ers, knowing that they need to win to get into the playoffs.
Well, for some of us, 9er fans, its encouraging that our team is starting to show progress and can show up and play hard on a given Sunday.
At least, this outcome will generate excitement the next time these teams meet...

HAPPY NEW YEARs
Two Chief's endzone tickets against the Jags--$160
Mike Shanahan pulling for the Chiefs so that his team would be challenged (AND LOOSING AGAINST THE 49ERS)--PRICELESS!
I am shocked and speechless.
He was a very good player
L-O-S-E! Loose is what your mom's are.
How do you like dem' apples Javon?
1ST. wow so many to choose from. George Foster ..GONE
Darrent Williams ..GONE Tatum Bell ..GONE Gold Im not impressed with ANYMORE,ONE PLAY A GAME DOESNT DO IT. DENNISON wasnt even a good player.. GONE. NO PASS RUSH, NO PASS RUSH, NO PASS RUSH,SAY IT AGAIN KIDDIES NO PASS RUSH
The Broncos offense will be much better next year, guaranteed! The defense better get better or this season will mirror next.
RIP Darrent Williams! Think so or not, that is another HUGE loss!
I SAID EXACTLY THE SAME THE VERY MOMEN IT HAPPENED. 49ers would have gone into the dressing room on a terrible note. And then would not have come out in the 3rd quarter re-energized and soon down just 3 points in a game they were nevreven in.
And oh by the way.....I've seen John Elway, (believe me we remember John) and Jay Cutler is no John Elway!. Thanks again Broncos.
GO CHIEFS!!
There is no more Mile High. We tore down our significant home field advantage when we put "Invesco" up.
------------------------
Comment 29
4-4 at home at Mile High? Are you kidding me? The last time I was this embarrased by our local team Wade Phillips was roaming the sidelines. Big, big changes are in store this off-season after a pathetic last half of the year. This team has NO HEART.
HA HA HA!!!!
KC CHIEFS had WAR PAINT and a Super Bowl long before that broken down, swayed back, excuse of horse flesh you have.
We also have the SUPER CHIEF running through KC.
Tooooooooooo bad little horsey buddies, better luck next year, year, yeah right, with Jay Cutler??? Hee, hee, hee, hee.
TW in KC
In your infinite wisdom, you must have known that the Broncos finished the season as the LEAST penalized team in the NFL.
Say what you will about the Broncos faults, of which there are many, but save that “dirtiest team in the NFL take for the tourists. You have got to come with something better than that.
Darrent Williams was SHOT AND KILLED last night too.
Folks, it's just a game. We've all been given a shocking, very saddening reminder of this.
Prayers to the Williams family, my deepest condolences for your loss.
May whatever God you pray to keep you, and yours happy, healthy, and safe this year.
That's all this Broncos fan much cares about now.
Sometimes we need to remember it is JUST A GAME when something like this happens.
Roll Pats, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007
We Chief fans have had a bit of fun at your expense last night and this morning, having been in your shoes many times.
We have also been in your shoes with the loss of a gifted player when we lost Derrick Thomas a few years ago.
Hang in there everyone, support your team and nurse yourselves back to health.
Football is nothing without good rivalries and trash talking, but today we are all pulling for your team as people to get through this terrible tragedy.
You'll not get over it; when the Chiefs inducted Neal Smith into our Ring of Fame this year, there were videos of Neal doing amazing things, then there was a scene of Neal and Derrick running on the field together and another of them hugging and all of the sudden, the cheering stopped and we were all crying again.
Remember the good times you had with Darrent and try to keep positive.
We'll see you all again next year and may the trash talking start again at an appropriate time.
Peace to our Bronco buddies from KC
The Broncos lost for ONLY ONE reason: They had the ball inside the opponents 5 yard line THREE times with first downs and came up with field goals. Plain and simple, the O-line stinks!
Long gone are the days when the Denver O-line was the league's best. They need an offensive lineman in next year's draft and they MUST move to a 3-4 defensive scheme. They need to make use of those fast line backers.
Shame about DT. He was a spirited guy with lots of upside. So much for partying on New Year's eve.
It's time the Denver media step up and question this guy. He's not God. He's not untouchable. Forget the past. What has he done for us lately. He deserves to be fired for the way his team performed not just on Sunday, but all season.
Fire Shanahan.
P.S. It appeared Shanahan (the same guy who wished for a KC win against Jacksonville to motivate his team) was playing for the tie in overtime. SAD SAD SAD!!! Made all of us in KC GLAD GLAD GLAD!!!
My guess is most of the KC bloggers in this thread are not familiar with the players I mentioned before. You might want to get over yourselves and display some civics. I'll be cheering for the Bolts this playoff season!!!
Please take care and be safe,
KC LEE

Hang in there Bronco Fans
Chiefs Fan living in Colorado
Chiefs fans say every year, "maybe next year, Bronco's Fans." Lets not forget what the 6th seed did with their wildcard. Super Bowl Winners.
Happy New Year!
Renee in Kansas
Good luck, Jake, you were the coolest player to ever play in the overrated city of Denver.
Enjoy your time off. KC will happily represent the AFC West in the playoffs!
GO CHIEFS!
Change happens it's frequently messy. What's been remarkable about the Broncos franchise over the past 30 or so years is how consistently Denver's been able to put an exiting and often top-quality team on the field. With a new generation of talent, the most committed ownership in the game, and the drawing power of one of league's elite teams I see no reason the Broncos can't resume beating the snot out of the AFC West next year.
Except for San Diego. They're going to be good for a long time.
And of course it always puts things in perspective to imagine being a Lions, Cardinals, or Cincinnati fan. Or a KC Chiefs fan for that matter.
Above all it's just a game, a wonderful diversion. Prayers for the family of Darrent Williams.
It is, after all, only a game, and will never be as important a loved one.
Believe me, Chiefs fans know all too well what it's like to be in your shoes today — regarding both death and loses. We still miss Derrick Thomas (and the team has never been the same without him), and the sting of Lin Elliot missing four chip shots against Indy in the 1993 playoffs still hurts.
Of course the Chiefs aren't a "playoff caliber" team (whatever that means), but neither are the Broncos. We probably won't beat the Colts next Saturday ... and the sun will continue to rise each morning. Do the Chiefs "deserve" to be in the playoffs? Did many people think the Steelers "deserved" to be in the playoffs last year? Who knows, and frankly, who cares?
Do any of you really think that Darrent Williams' family and friends care about a silly game right now or are talking about who in the Broncos organization should be traded, released or fired?
Our two cities have had — and will continue to have — one of the greatest rivalries in NFL history, and this is fun to do every fall. But please remember, folks: It truly IS only a game.
Again, my heart goes out to the family, friends and teammates of Darrent Williams.
And to all those happy KC fans, you should be counting your blessings.... and by the way, do you still have those diapers that LJ used to wear? Denver RBs could certainly use them... and watch how hard you ride LJ. Reminds me of how we rode TD.
Does anybody else miss Ron Dayne?
"everything pales in comaprison to life."
“Cutler gives us the best chance to wine right now…? I think not Mike.
Except here we are, "wine-ing" and crying.
Sure, it was the goalline failures, not the officiating. Still, what was that challenge about? There was no call to overturn -- the ball was clearly dead, BOTH times.
Bill in Manitoba
I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of Darrent Williams. I obviously knew about him on the field, but I was saddened further when I read about how he had turned around his life from his days in Fort Worth. My condolences to Darrent's family, the Bronco organization and their fans. Hang in there, and we'll see you next year.
Seriously, I wish I could feel great about this, but hearing about DW obviously tempers the enthusiasm. He made a great pick vs us last month & was coming on, looked like he coulda been a good one. So sorry for that loss.
1. Five rookies on offense either starting or making major contributions. (find another nfl team in the same situation).
2. No consistent pass rush.
3. INJURIES!!!!
4. Schedule, we played a very tough schedule(all of the AFC playoff teams),and we were in all of the games except one.
Saying all of that this team is not very far from going to the super bowl,a couple adjustments we will be back.
Chief fans enjoy you one week because next year you will be sitting at home.
And on another note the biggest loss of the year Darrent Williams, We will miss you. You will always be a Bronco in our heart. R.I.P
My condolences to his family.
There are three priorities -- (1) get a new defensive coordinator (how about Dom Capers?); (2) do whatever it takes to sign Michael Turner away from San Diego; (3) upgrade the offensive and defensive lines.
Prayers to Darrent's family...
Rob, apparently you don't remember all the 8-8 seasons Elway endured in the early and mid 90's before Shanahan arrived and got TD and everyone else to back Elway up. You also don't remember that it took Elway 15 years to win that first SuperBowl.
The Broncos (and football as a team sport in general) are ALWAYS more than their QB.
He is a rookie though and to be expected.
We know you LOVE to see us lose because we usually win the division while you are at home thinking of what it would be like to be part of the BRONCO NATION! I just hope when LJ gets hurt, it's from lynch or wilson nailing him and making him mess his diaper.
I LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEXT 10-12 YEARS OF CULTER AND RIVERS.IT WILL BE DENVER/SAN DIEGO FOR THE NEXT 12 YEARS.
1. They take the six best teams to the playoff at the time.
2.Your Donkies had the best chance of any of the teams. Your team blew it.
Stop crying and own up to the fact that we won when we had to...all the rest lost that is the end of this story
How totally shocking. Really, I'm amazed at the utter lack of respect, class, and sympathy shown in most posts from you idiots will nothing better to do than post trash, breaking your arms patting yourselves on the back for finally backing into the playoffs.
2 45 yard line tickets to the Chiefs - Jags game....$180
Watching the dumbest man in NFL sports (Shannon Sharpe) eat his words (predicted Jags over Chiefs & predicted Donkos over 49ers).... PRICELESS!
Enjoy the snow.
Condolences to DW's family.
Since the KC Texans(chiefs) won the Superbowl back during the vietnam era, Denver has played in 6 SUPERBOWLS.
Jealousy, plain and simple.
I dont understand how they have time to be posting on a Denver website, shouldnt you all be busy painting your trailers bright red for next weeks big Playoff game.
You can show INdy the true meaning of Choking in the playoffs, they are mere amatures compared to the Chiefs.
You will be missed Darrent. God bless you. Thoughts, prayers and strength to your family, friends, and teammates.
Ron & Debra Beamish,
Hope, B.C., Canada
I am not a Broncos fan, I was
surprised that Cutler continued to play
Kansas City will beat Indy, as LJ will run through that defense
Darrent took a lot of abuse (some from me), but he accounted himself pretty well considering the amount of action that came his way. He could cover, but was still learning to play the ball. He was gonna be a good one. I feel this a huge loss for the team.
But even worse, is his loss as a friend and family member. I feel for his family and the team.
The "escalation of violence" in our society is so ridiculous. Why does an altercation at a club have to lead to a shooting? That element of society has so little value for life. Someone "disses" you so shoot 'em.
Good thinking.
I have 3 young children and I feel sick sometimes about the world they are coming into.
Goodbye Darrent and good luck. We will miss you.
I am happy my Chiefs are playing next week and, as a Chiefs fan, I am a bit happier it was at the expense of the Broncos but Williams' loss does much to diminish what would have been unbounded glee. Love and respect to the OSU and Broncos family. It is always painful to lose one of your own as when DT and, more recently, Mr. Hunt passed.
winner of ravens chargers wins it all
The funny thing is, when you get blown up by Indy, not one of you classless losers will be back until next season. When you win as many playoff games as Denver did this season, think a little bit about Karma when you act like a bunch of ...
R.I.P. kid, we'll miss you...
Injuries are what killed this team. You Plummer fans must not have watched the games, because all the experts and real Bronco fans have said Cutler is better than Plummer already.
Have fun getting beat out in training camp by David Carr. Then maybe you Plummer fans can get a chance to actually meet him. No one goes to Texans games so the tickets are cheap.
jp....he's an IDIOT though so it's to be expected.
it will be interesting to see how many will be back after indy gives them a very quick exit.
i will make sure to go to all the qweef boards sat. night to rub it in.
just goes to show you how cheesy the kc fans are.
as soon as they luck out and make the playoffs, they all go to the den. boards.
no... come to think about it, i wont go to the kc boards after they get beat. i wont stoop to the lowly level that the kc fans are at. I will just sit back and enjoy manning tear them apart.
you have 6 days to enjoy kc fans, then you'll be talking, fire herm. fire def. cord. get rid of trent.
I see it coming, you kc fans are so typ.!then we wont here nothing from you til next year.
gladly!!!!!
God bless the family and friends of Darrent Williams!!!
Id trade a winless season to have D-Will alive, even if he couldnt play again.
thank you to the few KC, Jag, OAK and other fans who posted their condolences and best wishs. If rival fans treated each other the way oppsing players do in the NFL fraternity, the world would be a better place. You considerate fans are sadly the exception, as more of your brethern would rather gloat of their own success than care about the life of another
Its just a game people. Life is more important than winning. RIP D-Will, may your killers be caught soon.

Playoff teams DO NOT lose at home to inferior opponents with a playoff berth at stake...period. I hate the Chiefs as much as anyone, but they took care of business when it mattered and got into the tourney...end of story.
On a more serious note, heartfelt condolences to the Bronco organization and God bless the family of Darrent Williams. The kid could play and had a bright future.
Go Chargers!
Does he process information slowly resulting in sacks (i.e not throw the ball away, or even try to avoid pressure but just take hit after hit -- he had more time than you give the line credit for)?
Did he cost us the Seattle game by throwing an interception returned for a touchdown?
Did he cost us the San Fran game by throwing an interception returned for a touchdown when we were up by ten points and the game was in hand?
Did he give us the best chance to win this year?
Can you really compare him to Elway after a 2-3 start on a good team and he single handedly cost us two games?
Listen, I am not a Plummer backer. I just never thought he was the reason that we were losing games when we were 7-4 and that was reitterated when we went 2-3 down the stretch.
My oppinion on Cutler, not because I back Plummer who is no longer with the team, is that he is a passive personality, slow in his reads, locks on to receivers, has average mobility and a rocket right arm.
KC fans, sorry to tell you, your D will get smoked by Peyton and you will be out in one game. Pats fans, your team is average in a weak conference. You got killed by Miami just a few weeks ago, the Jets will beat you at home..Enjoy the rest of the Celtics season !! San Diego fans enjoy it while it's here because next year Cam Cameron will be a head coach on another team and it's back to Marty ball. ACF championship- Chargers 21 Ravens 30.
Denver fans, lay off Shanahan, he does not make plays on the field. That's why the Broncos are out of the playoffs lack of execution by a team with lots of injuries, young players and players that need to move on. Denver will have a third place schedule just like KC had this year and will be back on top next year. In the mean time Go Nuggets and AVS...
Peace be with the Denver Broncos and the friends and family of Darrent Williams.
Secondly: Condolences to the Broncos family for the tragic and unfortunate death of Darrent Williams. What a tragedy.
GO CHIEFS.
As far as Shocked Oklahoman goes - shove it where the sun don't shine cowboy.
If any team has historically relied on luck it would be the CHiefs. How many times have the CHiefs been exposed as a fraud team in the first round of the playoffs after 'luckily' earning a #1 seed. ('95,'97,'03). Every year there is a team that gets by totally on luck and it usually is KC or CHicago. Overall I would say the breaks for the Broncos were about even for the year.
The departure of both Mike Anderson and Trevor Price were significant personnel loses that cost Denver some games. Going into mini-camp relying on ROn Dayne as the primary big back was a huge gamble that cost Denver the ability to run out games in the 4th quarter as was relying on Courtney Brown to stay healthy. CUtler looks like he will be good, although I think Plummer was better than he was given cerdit for during his tenure in Denver. A 70% winning percentage is not all that bad. Perhaps if Denver had taken Moroney or Addai instead of CUtler they would have a much better record.
My condolances to the Darrent WIlliams family and the Bronco organization. Very sad to hear, especially for his two young kids.
There's a lot of mud slinging going on, but it's a team effort and there were many areas that caused frustration and dismay. How many of you had the same sick feeling I had when the defense was called in to stop the 49ers at the end and again in OT. I knew that our defense could not stop them from scoring. They don't have the "stonewall" instint. The defense only seems to be about making big plays or hits. Game after game, we allow teams to come back on us. We can't stop third down conversions. The defense has really been horrible the second half of the season. Al Wilson's play was missing. Where was he these last couple of games?
Special teams has been very poor most of the year as well. Our kicker only kicked the ball to the 15 yard line twice and the 10 yard line once in the past game giving up great field position up to the 40 yard line, while we started within our own 20 yard line many times this season.
Trying to run the ball on three series within the opponents five yard line and not scoring - well, some can blame the line, some the running back, but everyone one in football knows we have one of the smallest lines in football. They rarely blow anyone off the line. Should have mixed in up with pass and playaction to spread the defense. Poor, poor, poor play calling and execution.
The loss of Darrent Williams is very sad. It's tragic and makes this game seem insignificant. Not sure there was much to celebrate but Williams was living his life.
Obviously, his presence and talent will be missed. All in all, not a good year.
2007 will be a challenge. I really hope Coyer is replaced.
Denver needs a good running back like T.D. and should look for a free agent DE, possibly Simeon Rice or Dwight Freeney.
It worked for us when we brought in Neil Smith from KC. He helped us to two superbowls.
You act as if you will go somewhere in the playoffs full of a bunch of teams that are strides better than you. Will you beat Indy? Possibly and if you don't good god you have one of the leagues best rushers against a defense that couldn't stop my sons pee-wee rushing game. Your NOT better than SD, your NOT better than the Pats, your NOT better than Balt. So great your in were out your fate will be ours soon enough.
As for the Broncos we would have gone no where either. so meh... Go Nugs!!!
....WE NEED A PASS RUSH FOOLS!
Regarding coming onto the Denver site and giving you guys a hard time - I've seen a lot worse for a lot less on other sites, including the KC Star website from Denver fans. The Broncs just really weren't very good this year.
It's the playoffs and Pittsburgh showed last year that anything is possible at this point and the Broncos blew that chance and choked after starting the season at 7-2. To me, that's as good as the Raiders only winning 2 games.
Life is good in KC, even if it's only for a week.
Lost 3 of their last 5 games.
1 win was against the raiders so it barely counts.keep kidding yourself.
PS- I've been through Kansas city and life could never be good there.
never have I wanted a team to get beat so bad. all because of the cowards that that they are coming on these boards talking crap like no other year.
I read these boards every year, and this year the kc fans have hit a new low.
GO COLTS!!! if the players are anything like the fans,no problem.COWARDS DONT WIN!
Arizona State has notoriously easy academic entrance standards compared with Vandy. Do some research before you shoot your dumb mouth off. It makes you sound so inarticulate trying to use myths as facts to come up with some all-mightly assessment of Jay Cutler to suit your imprudent needs. What a JOKE!
my heart goes out to the broncos, darrent was such a good player.
couldnt be any worse, thats for sure.
and get rid of t bell. and get a real rb, one that dont fumble.
and shanny you need to play call better. i think your over thinking things.
and if you dont fix that d line, we will be here talking about the same crap next year.
if you cant get to the QB, and your D coach is too scared to blitz, you will make a third string QB look like a hall of fame QB. not to mention make are d backs look bad.
GO COLTS!!!!!
and when he fails, you can blame that coach.
GO COLTS!!!!!
anyone remember Jeff George...rocket arm next great whoever..rocket arm was right just dumb as door door nails...Cutler next Elway (let me get off the floor from laughing) rocket arm..I just hope he figures out what direction he's throwing the ball and to who...
reality though, your all cowards, and we wont here from you til next year.

ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!
My son had his comments pulled regarding the Darrent Williams tragedy, and he's a huge DW fan!
They were nowhere near as nasty or mean spirited as some of the ones I've read (no profanity either) in recent days.
I don't get it.
Long live free speech and the right to agree or disagree!
Go Broncos!
Provided their injured players recover fully and they get some help in the draft or through free agency (power cut back runner, pass rushers) I think 12-4 in '07 and AFC West Champs is not unreasonable.
Look for this years's rookies to come up big next year.
I'll be suprised if Tatum Bell is back.
Let's talk turnovers: Champ had more picks over the last two years than anyone.
Lessee now, the last QB foolish enough to say that he wasn't afraid of Champ and "would challenge him" was, no surprise, a rook. So, Pretty Boy Matt- how'd that work out for you, anyway?
Errrr, I threw it to it to his side twice and BOTH TIMES he picked me off. Yeah, that guy is pretty good.
Learn a lesson, Over-rated overhyped Product of an Excellent System, did we?
6 of Champ's 10 picks this year came INSIDE THE 3 YARD LINE. Say that again: 6 picks INSIDE THE 3.
In other words, Champ took anywhere from 18 (6 x 3: assuming that they would have ONLY scored FGs) to 36 (6 x 6: likewise, ONLY TDs) points AWAY from the other team, WHILE giving the ball to his offense in the red-zone ALREADY. How big a point swing is that?!
Anywhere from 36 (18 x 18: other team would've scored 18 thru FGs, and we DID score those 18 points because of the ints) to *potentially* 72 (36 x 36) freakin' points, that's how many.
And oh yeah, he made four OTHER picks, and returned one of those for a TD. Oh, and he forced and recovered 1 fumble. So now we're up to a 48 to a potentially 84 point swing.
Yeah, Taylor's 2 picks (both for TDs, given) and 9 ff (2 recovered) was pretty much the same as that, uh huh.
Taylor did have 13.5 sacks (which DIDN'T lead the NFL, btw) so yeah.... that's probably about equal. Yeah, sure.
How about tackles? Well, we can't really fairly compare the two, can we? One's a big, strong defensive end that's rushing the passer and stopping the run, and one's a smallish, quick CB that's running with the fleetest of foot on the field and mostly has his back to the play.
Thus, the End would have LOTS more tackles, so it's not fair.
Right?
Taylor's tackles: 40, 36 solo.
Champ's tackles: 73, 67 solo.
Here's what Rod Smith had to say about Champ: "“I mean, I’ve never played with a better football player, I don’t believe. I played with John Elway, and he’s a legend, he’s great, (so) I’ll exclude him. But everybody else I’ve ever played with, I’ve never seen anybody else like him. I call him ‘The Jedi,’ actually. I think he’s Yoda’s son because he knows where the hell the ball’s going before they even throw it, and he just runs over there and I’m like, ‘Dude, that’s not your guy.’"
Rod's played against a couple of pretty good DBs in his time, I'd guess. His first TD was a last-second game winner from Elway, remember? What you may not remember is that this TD came against Darryl Green, who was a *pretty good* DB back in the day.
Taylor's an excellent defensive end, but c'mon now!! The guy didn't break any sack records, he didn't break any tackle records, he didn't even lead the league in either. He didn't even have a lousy 50 freaking tackles. For a defensive line player?? He's really good, and had a really *good* year, but he's no Champ.
Champ buddy, ya got SCROOOOOOED!
Here is the bet...
As long as Cutler is the QB, the Broncos will not make the playoffs.
Now since I am a huge Bronco fan, I am hoping he gets hurt and someone with half a brain will lead us to the playoffs.
The Broncos will miss the playoffs like they did before Jake got here. Jake came and we made the playoffs every year until they replaced him with Cutler who somehow screwed up enough to keep us out.
Everyone will make excuses for Cutler for a year or two and then everyone will turn on him when they realize he is nothing more than a Ryan Leaf or Jeff George. Strong arm only gets you so far and that is the only thing he has going for him.
Jake is Steve DeBerg. Walsh once said of DeBerg "He's just good enough to get you beat."
That's Jake. Move on, sell that Plummer jersey in this summer's garage sale and let it go.
its almost disrespectful to be talking about this stuff at this time
but i completely disagree with you
any one who has been a bronco fan for sometime knows the kid has got something that we havent had here in a long time, i agree with you he did find a way to screw this season but he was like a deer in headlights he was thrown into a major mess he will turn around and i can guarentee you a playoffberth.
Godbless the Williams family
I'll take that bet anyday, anytime!
Jake was never superbowl caliber. Is Cutler that good? still can't say.
But you name the stakes I'll take them. Not only will cutler lead the Broncos to the playoffs, he will lead them to a much wanted SB.
I just wish I could see you and all the others doubters faces when you buy that Cutler Jeresy after the Broncos become a power house again.
I watched a season where Jake Plummer threw away our season, tries to throw away every win we did get, and now we have some "claimed" bronco fan spouting off at the gills about Jay Cutler being worse. Come on now, how can you be worse when we see a rookie Quarterback has better games in his first (4) starts then Jake did the entire year in any. Hmmm lets see, 10 year Vet vs. Rookie in first starting season. I will take your bet & I will one up you. How bout you crawl back into the Kansas City alley you really came from and scrounge up a few pickle jars & leftover grilled cheese sandwiches, tin cans & see if you can come up with a few cents to wager. The Broncos are much better off with Cutler then they would be with Plummer simply because the playbook can now be opened back up to include some of the long passing plays we used to use to strech the field when (yes) Elway was the starter. Even better, This kid can move out of the pocket better then Elway did his last 6 or seven years. One last note, Jake Plummer comes in for Jay Cutler & do you recal what happened? INTERCEPTION. How is that going to get you to the playoffs every year? Either you are a KC fan, a Raider, or you went to AZ. Give me a break.
Mikey from "D" town out-
Perhaps next year will bring some good and a spot in the playoffs, but until then the Broncos and its fans have to take the bad for now and leave the crowing to those teams who seized the playoffs by their play on the field. Congrats to them for they all earned it by their own efforts.
Once again, a head coach robs this season HOPING for a better return in the future. When will this madness ever end?
I do think an assistant coaching cleanout is in order though. Start with Larry C., Rick Dennison, and Bradford.
I remember the last few weeks when I came to read the comments and the defense wasnt doing to great you all were bashing Darrent Williams. I really hope that you slept well.
As for getting rid of Shanahan. Are you crazy? If Bowlen released Shanahan he would have a job somewhere else immediately. He has proven that he is a successful coach. Two Superbowl rings prove it. With a few adjustments in the organization he can get us back there. We Bronco fans expect to go to the big dance every year but let reality hit you in the head...it just doesn’t happen that way.
To those who think that they can do better get out of your LAZYBOY, put down the remote control. Take your butt to the football field, make the team and take The Broncos to the Superbowl. It's so easy to be the judge, isn’t it?
It has been a proven fact that you need more than a Hall of Fame QB to win the Superbowl. Dan Marino went to the Dance once and didn’t get the ring, Jim Kelly went 4 times and never won, Payton Manning will be in the HOF and hasn’t went yet, what about Bret Farve, so far has been twice and won 1.
Wow just look at that you have 4 excellent QBs and only one Super bowl ring in more then 50 years of experience between them. Do you think Trent Dilfer will be in the HOF? I don’t think many people consider him great but at least he got his ring.
Don’t be bandwagon or fair weather fans. Support your team. Go Broncos!!!
Go Colts Go Colts....
from a Bronco Fan
Most teams in the NFL are only a few plays away from a very different record most every year, but most especially this one.
There's no reason whatsoever to suggest that Plummer would have done any better in those situations. Quite the opposite, in fact, which is why he's riding the pine into the sunset outta Denver.
Were you watching earlier in the season when we were scoring a whopping 10, 9, 17, 13, etc with Plummer at the helm? Apparently not.
But hey, don't let them thar facts get in yer way. You KNOW what you KNOW. You go ahead and spout off in ignorance all you like.
Yep, we asked for Cutler all right, and we weren't disappointed. The rook looked better than the ten-year vet.
And to all those "Dump Shanahan" folks, answer this ONE QUESTION: WHO replaces him?
Who'd be better, RIGHT NOW, or within a year or two, than the guy who's coached Denver (an NFL team, VERY different than lying to kids and parents in college) to a top 3 winningest record in the entire NFL in the last 10 years?
Remember, the last successful college coach to make the leap to the NFL was Jimmy Freakin' Johnson. Saban, the last Wunderkind college coach ready to set the league on fire, just tucked tail and ran back to the saftey of the college game. Consider the careers Butch Davis, Steve Spurrier, Dennis Ericson, Nick Saban, and Pete Carroll (the list goes on) in the NFL before you answer.
Think you can pry King Carroll off his throne of Scarlet and Gold, out of his Shining City on the Hill where he Rules and all bow at his feet for.... what?
ANOTHER stint at the NFL, where a head coach can get canned in a year?
I mean, I've done MORE than my fair share of criticizing Shanahan, believe me. Simply put, the guy's draft record is AWFUL. On the other hand, he brought Champ to us.
But come ON now. With all these recent head coaching vacancies, WHO THE HELL are we gonna get that's better?
Until you CAN answer that question, shut the hell up please.
Having waded through this marathon of junk, I have to declare Bronco Bryce as the biggest fool in here. Your comments are hilarious, fawning over Cutler and proving how new you are to Broncos football.
You say Jay played well in the last two games 'playoff games' you called them. I beg to differ.
You say all in all you're happy with this season. Are you kidding me? Happy that a 7-3 team with wins over New England and Baltimore throws their quarterback under the bus and watch the season go up in smoke?
And you'd rather lose now? I hope you're happy, becaue when we switched QBs midseason that's exactly what we started doing.
Me, I'd like to be going into NE on Sunday and owning them again.
Fret not boy, it wasn't Jay's fault nearly everyone mailed it in. It was Shanahans fault for putting a guy who wasn't ready in.
Finally, your fawning over Cutler is ridiculous. For every laser he threw, he made a rookie mistake along with it. Shanahan looks like an utter fool for making this move when he did. I know at Vandy 5-6 was considered success, but 2-3 and missing the playoffs is garbage in Denver.
If you can't see the blatantly obvious difference between the play that Plummer was giving the Broncos and the play that Cutler was doing, you have no business posting at all on this board. Even the biggest dumbass on the planet could see that the change was a vast improvement and that Plummer's play was getting the team nowhere fast.
So what does that make you?
Were we going to win a SB with Jake at the helm? Absolutely not. He proved that last season. It was time to see what Cutler could do. Put him in now to see what we have for the future, and the stats prove that he is a much better quarterback in his FIRST YEAR, than the 10 year vet.
To all those who think Shanny game planned to keep Jake in the pocket, think about this. How did we lose to Pittsburgh last year? They kept Jake in the pocket, and when he's in the pocket he can't complete a pass to save his life. Once teams schemed a way to keep him in the pocket, it was way too easy to shut down our offense. So, if you need someone to throw from the pocket, why not put in the kid with the 'rocket arm'? He proved to be accurate, and better than I could have hoped. Now if he can just figure out to watch his blind side for a CB blitz, he'll be alright. :}
I can't tell you how sick I felt when Plummer came into the game last week. Sayonara, Jake. I hope that the Chefs pick you up so that we'll have two guaranteed victories next year. Relax Chefs fans, I'm just kidding. But I bet you all had a heart palpitation thinking about Jake behind centre for your team. Welcome to my hell the last three years. Good Riddance!
And if you say Jake would have taken us the Super Bowl this year than you need to get a refund on your seeing eye dog because you are just plain blind to reality.
Bottom line is Shanny knows much more about the game and his team than anyone. He has built this organization along with Elway, TD and the cast of 1994 - 1998. You are wrong, Shanny does not look like a fool for making the moves he made this year he looks like the best coach in the NFL because he got out of the way what needed to happen, rookies making mistakes and learning. I would rather they do it this year than next. I for one am glad Jay tossed that stupid pass up for grabs in the Seattle game, because he learned from it. That kid took a depleted offense on game tying or winning drives the last two weeks of the year. Jake didn't do that in any game this year.
Because of the moves that Shanny made at QB we have a better chance next year at reaching our goal - SUPER BOWL.
Larry Coyer.
The fastest linebackers in the NFL.
Through 16 games, the entire corps comprised a whopping two sacks.
See Manning have all the time in the world? See Coyer do absolutely nothing to change that?
This keeps happening, we could have the AFC pro bowl defense, and a game plan like that will give any team a chance.
Dammit!! Use that speed! Coyer really has to take responsibility for not adjusting, the d line isn't that bad, dumervil, lang, meyers all played pretty good.
Two sacks from this linebacker crew?
UNEXCUSEABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE.
It's the sound of the collective yappers of the Chefs fans snapping shut.
You guys REALLY thought you had *any* chance? Like every year since God was a child, you go nowhere in the playoffs. One and done, seeya.
Later, chumps!
During everyone of those series inside the 5 yard line I'm thinking Mike Anderson or Ron Dayne would look mighty good in a Bronco uniform right now.
No defensive line pressure, LB's out of position and a secondary playing 10 yards off the receiver doomed this team all season late in games.
Time to draft, sign a FA or trade for a stud RB, DE and LB next year. Dwight Freeney come on down!!
After a couple of the most productive years in the NFL, Plummer was hanged out to dry this year because he was not Elway without Kubiak, Putzier, last year's Rod Smith, and last year's offensive line.
Let's try to be fair Bronco fans: What has Shanahan done for us recently? The 2 Super Bowl wins are ancient history as are those earlier Super Bowl massacres. Shanahan has NOT done anything to prove it on the field. The current standard for a genius winning coach is Belichick at New England. Compared to him, Shanahan is a loser and is fair game to be replaced by some other boy wonder genius just like Shanahan when he was just a successful assistant coach. That’s where the next genius coach is going to come from. It is fair to consider whether his real chances for Super Bowl success has passed him by just like it has for Bill Parcels, Martz, Gibbs, and many other past Super Bowl coaches and Super Bowl winning coaches.
The proof is in the coach’s recent records and team performance. Shanahan is on the downward spiral every coach will eventually encounter as no one stays on top forever, even Shanahan.
One and out as was expected, and now you'll be picking below us. As of now, you are worse off.
If you win a game, I say it was a success cause you are making strides. You BACKED in with 3 other teams losing, 2 in OT... your coach made a fool of himself spouting off... you all made fools of yourself spouting off and now your team is the same place as Denver....
Except we have what looks to be a long term solution at QB, not to mention alot of young talent.
Green will be 36? Gonzalez is slowing down rapidly, the OL is a mess... I'll give you LJ and Tamba because I'm a Penn Stater.
Neither team is super bowl ready, but I like our future better.
Whooohoooo... you got in the playoffs... you guys rock!
Ron Dayne... But we kept Cedric Cobbs who was the biggest non-factor on the roster.
I didn't like that move then and like it even less now. Pounding the ball could have helped us in the SD, Chief, Seattle, Cincy and 9er games. It could have locked up those games late.
With a bruising running game, we would have been much more of a threat this season.
How would Dayne have looked in some of those 1st and goal situations?
Not sure what Shanahan was thinking with that one... Cedric Cobbs?
Cutler's throws are all over the place. He will make an occasional good throw but its like a shotgun.. u dont know where its gonna go. He got extremely lucky on 3 or 4 of those TD's too. They should have been picks but either bounced off the defender or went through their hands. Stats dont show everything. He was very lucky. Only thing that matters is wins and he didnt get it done.
You said about Cutler- "For every laser he threw, he made a rookie mistake along with it." GASP! A rookie making a rookie mistake? UNACCEPTABLE! Ha ha ha. He made more plays for us in 5 games than Jake did in 11. I can accept rookie mistakes because he will get better. Plummer unfortunately, will not. I know anything can happen in the playoffs, but, we had too many holes this year, too many injuries. You're probably one of those people who blows your paycheck within two days. Ever think about the future? We averaged a touchdown more per game when Cutler came in. By the way, I heard Plummers beard is for sale on Ebay, since you're probably not old enough to grow one yourself. By the way, how'd he look against the 49'ers? Oh yeah 1 completion. Too bad it was to the other team.
Bubby Brister??
Meanwhile, The Jay Cutler move will pay off and he will be shock and awe-ing the league.
Of course none of the run your mouth chief fans will be heard from around here this week.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
How many Broncos were on the screen of that 65" Plasma when I threw that "laser" TD pass to the 49ers.
Too bad the NFL doesn't count TDs for the other team or I would have broken ALL of Marino's rookie records.
Bill Cowher had an off year or two in Pittsburg, drafted a good QB, got it together and then won the superbowl. Sound familiar? Shanny has made a few mistakes, but really our season went down because of injuries and George Foster being a statue.
Also, I can't believe you expect a rookie to be perfect in his first season. I can't remember any rookie besides Big Ben playing that well his rookie year. And Big Ben had a great running game and defense to back him up.
Hey Chiefs fan, what did I tell you about LJ? You guys can't even run the ball against the one of the worst run D's in history? Did you hear that? I think someone lost a turd! Don't worry, Charger fan will be joining you soon enough.
You watch plummer will end up with the bears next year and take them to the super bowl, wouldn't that be our luck.
Yeah, tell us, O great one, how many times has history repeated itself like that the Steelers' Super Bowl season and Rothleisberger?
Not with Staubach, Elway, Namath, Bradshaw, Starr, Montana, Simms, Williams, Aikman, Young, Brady, Warner, or other QBs. If the Broncos can repeat next year what the Steelers did last year, it will be the second time its happened.
Besides, I rather Cutler be like those Super Bowl MVP QBs than a one shot (so far) wonder like Rothleisberger. Only time will tell, but with Cowher gone, don't bet on it.
This hoping and wishing on your part is too moondust for me or most folks. The reality of NFL history is the Rothleisberger miracle won't happen again in a long time.
Jake Plummer carrer with Broncos:
42 wins 22 loses(as a starter),
71 TD passes versus 47 ints.,
11,531 passing yards,
overall QB rating of 83.675 and a comp % of 59.175
Playoff carrer- 1-3
Brain Bronco carrer
34 wins and 30 loses,
71 TD passes versus 52 ints.,
11,761 passing yards,
overall QB rating of 85.65 and a comp % of 62.42
Playoff carrer- 0-1
Now here comes the very interesting part. Here are some stats that are from both QB's entire carrer.
Jake has 8 carrer seasons of 14+ ints while Brain only has 3 14+ ints seasons.
Jake has only one season of 19+ TD passes, while Brain has 3 seasons of 19+ TD passes.
Jake carrer QB rating is 74.6 while Brain is 84.5.
Now, I am a supporter of Jay Cutler and I have always felt that Jake was and still is a very high danger to a football team. I am also one who does not like to favor comparing players off of stats but rather winning. However, Brain Greise is better in pretty much all stats compared to Jake Plummer. Although, the only one that counts is the win % and playoff wins.
The reason I put these stats were because I wanted to prove that by the numbers Jake and Brain are the same, Brain may be little better. I also want to prove that Mike S. has compiled winning seasons around poor QB play. The fact is Jay will have better numbers than both of the losers, Jay will win more games, and ultimly maybe win a SB.
I also want to say that Jake Plummer became a average to good QB (at times) because of Mike S. and the Broncos. The Broncos were not a losing team before Jake, nor will they be a losing team after, they will be better. If Jay can prove to be a stable QB(unlike Brain and Jake) he will take the Broncos far!
It is what it is, Shannie will right the ship, I look for coaching changes as well (remember I said that). Now, go focus your energy on WARM weather and an early spring! :-)
now no queef fans at all. this is great.
if not for manning having a bad day, and making ty law look good, that score could have been 55-8.
what an awsom performance by the queefs!
green,2-7 for 2yds at the half
no catches by a wide reciever the entire game. LJ 13 for 32 yds.
NO FIRST DOWNS TIL 3:33 LEFT IN THE 4TH! IS THAT A RECORD?
dante hall, sneeze on that little wimp, and he goes down. he is the most overrated returner in the nfl.I wont even get started with the quitter kennison!
ANY WAY, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK QUEEFS,SURE DID LOVE THAT PERFORMANCE ON SAT.
although bronco fans are the only ones reading this post, cause for some reason there are no queef fans here anymore.yeeeeeehaaaaaaaw
Nice research. However, it appears that STATS have been misappplied and conclusions just dont add up. Some pertinanf facts left out.
1. Plummer did not play 4 games in 2003 and 5 in 2006. Result: 3 wins - 6 losses =33% WIN
2. Greise record 34-30 = 53% 0-1 Playoffs. Plummer record 42-22 = 65.6% 1-3 Playoffs
So a more accurate summation should be "The Broncos were an average team before Plummer (53%!!) and a BIG LOSING TEAM (33 % Vs 66%) without Plummer (2003-2006). Plummer was superior to Griese.
The fact that Plummer made the offensive line look good will never appear in STATS but it shows up in the WINS - which should be the ONLY thing which counts.
Also if you have to count Plummer's record from Arizona & compare it to Griese's overall record, remember Arizona's ONLY winning season and a PLAYOFF win.
Note : I am a Bronco Fan & I am hoping Cutler becomes a Star. However if we are to be honest, Broncos got a gift from Cincinnati & Cutler had several bad throws which were not intercepted and or bailed out by the defense. Law of Average will catch up. I realise he was a rookie and will improve next year.I believe that Broncos would have gone to Playoffs with Plummer - and most likely won against PATS (check Plummer's success against Brady). Cutler may become a Star - but it is a torturous learning curve.
and yeah that has got to be close to a record.
cmon stat fans, whats the record?
Bronco fans have been satisfied by past success of 2 Super Bowls, but we shouldn't be any longer when we look at the gold standard that New England has set.
As for those who cry out in fear "who is there who can replace Shanahan?" You only need to realize that there young, innovative coaches who are out there ready to successfully coach the NFL of the 21st century.
Examples of new and innovative successful coaches are Jets head coach Eric Mangini and Saints head coach Sean Payton. Based upon the play calling, game management, and adjustments to get the most of the team, Shanahan is on the downside, just as all coaches get, even Lombardi, Walsh, Noll, Landry, Shula, Madden, and ALL the others; father time catches up not only with players like Rod Smith, but with coaches like Shanahan.
All I ask for that if you are going to quote STATS than make sure they are accurate & dont leave part of the facts. FACTS is all we have. We all have opinions.
So Broncos Record : 3 wins - 6 losses i.e 33% during time frame 2003-2006 without Plummer TELLS IT ALL. You argue that it has to do with the Defense. So the entire defense decides to take the Day off since Plummer was not a quarteback. Also remember the last 5 games, compositely was realtively speaking, a weak schedule and we were lucky to be 2-3.
Acknowledge the fact that :
A) The timing of the Cutler Move was a mistake. Took away a sure Play-off spot.
B) Flip side, Cutler experience will serve hime well next year.
C) Shanahan gambled. He played for the future. As a fan it is painful to see your team Post Season.
Watch the Boise State game with Oklahoma. Also, have your cast of many coaches watch same.
See how Boise State found a way to put the ball where the Oklahoma defense was not.
Learn and apply same to next year's play book.
Then score, especially from within the 5 yard line.
1) The trash-talking by other Chiefs fans in this whole discussion is mind-boggling. We didn't deserve to be in the playoffs, and despite what Herm Edwards would like everyone to believe, we were lucky to be there.
2) The Darrent Williams thing is terrible. I felt terrible the day Derrick Thomas died, and that was an accident. Williams was the victim of a complete jerk. Very sad.
And now, for my dissertation on the Chiefs' performance against the Colts, and their season in general:
The Chiefs were and are a mediocre football team. Trent Green was overrated. He had the priviledge for several years of playing behind what was arguable one of the best offensive lines in NFL history. A highschool quarterback could have put up respectable numbers given the time in the pocket that Green used to enjoy. However, the guy has never been able to perform in pressure situations, and he's now over the hill.
As for the game on Saturday:
I don't know what to say. The big worry was the defense being able to contain Manning. Well, it wouldn't have been reasonable to expect the best defense in the NFL to hold the Colts for as long as the Chiefs defense did. The Chiefs defense did what most could not have done, despite their rather unimpressive performance in numerous instances during the regular season.
The offense acted as if they had their bags packed for the off-season, and this game interrupted their plans. The play-calling was a joke from the first series. Obviously, the Colts rush defense is terrible, but even a terrible defense can adapt when they know precisely what your game plan is. The Chiefs inability to adjust was inexcusable.
All-in-all, we got the performance we could expect from a mediocre football team. If Damon Huard isn't offered a starting position, he should leave and go play somewhere where he can shine. That guy deserves to be starting, somewhere.
Larry Johnson is good, but even he can only manage to do so much with a swiss-cheese offensive line. Had the Chiefs been trying to pass more than they did in that game, Green would have been sacked 10 times, easily.
Really, the Chiefs have got too much revamping to do to be effective next year. They can possibly be better, but I'd be surprised if they make the playoffs next year, and they shouldn't have been there this year, I don't care what Herm says.
I've seen Trent Green and he is no Damon Huard. In fact Green kind of reminds me of that great KC Cue-Bee Todd Blackledge.
Wasn't Marino drafted after him?
I wasn't saying Denver will win the superbowl next year, I was simply saying a bad year or two doesn't mean you should dump a great coach. I was also suggesting what a great coach can do when he gets a good QB. And I'm so glad that you can speak for everyone in here (most folks). Funny, YOU are the only one who assumed I was suggesting Denver will win it all next year. (God forbid that!)
Relax bro, neither one of us knows what will happen next season, but Jay showed a lot of promise, and gave "most folks" some hope for the future.
Nice job by MAtt Norris(#339) to admit what we we're trying to tell the chief fans, that they backed into the playoffs and had no business calling themselves a playoff team.
Jay Cutler is going to own them over the next decade so next year is not looking very promising either.
also, can some of you move on from JAke Plummer, his days are over and he was what he was, a mediocre QB on a good team, who could not get them to the next level.
Cutler has to still learn but his learning curve is not going to be 10 yrs and counting like Plummers.
Actually, Green reminded me more of Steve Bono or Elvis Grbac. Constant "deer in headlights" look on his face, bad passes, wouldn't throw downfield, dropped passes.
The last two in the last were probably coaching issues, too. I don't know, they just looked like total garbage, offensively.
How soon you forget and give Shanahan kudos for a 9-7 season. I say this is his worst season yet. The Broncos really should have been 16-0 this year and the huge favorite to win the Super Bowl with Plummer or Cutler.
Why would I say this?
A major part of successful coaching is keeping the players you should. Shanahan has slipped. He let Trevor Pryce walk without getting anything for him. Look at the year Trevor Pryce had with the Ravens.
Shanahan's great mistake was letting Trevor Pryce go to Baltimore as Trevor matched a career high in sacks this season with 13. He fit perfectly into the Ravens defense, which finished as the top-ranked unit in the NFL on a team that finished 13-3 and the No. 2 seed in the AFC.
If Shanahan had chosen to keep him, the Broncos would be the favorite for the Super Bowl this year instead of being an also ran. Remember how the defense started out? With Pryce in the defense, his sacks, and the attention the other team's offense would have had to give him, the Broncos (with Plummer or Cutler) would never have lost any games to the Colts, Chargers, Seahawks, KC, Rams, or 40ers. The Bronco defense would have gone down in history as one of the best with a legit pass rush and improved interior defense. This would have been the Bronco team everyone here and in the NFL envisioned to contend this year for the Super Bowl.
The Bronco players all know this too. Only the fans who continue to worship at the alter of Mike Shanahan, based on his success of 8 years ago, are content with Shanahan's failure to get

If you look at his stats alone, he doesn't look like a half-bad QB. You really need to dig in to what he's done in pressure situations or when there are injuries in his offensive line or receiver corps before you pass judgement.
Trent Green fails at being labeled "good", in my book, because he cannot perform (nor has he ever) well in rough situations. He had an offensive line that made him look good for a few years, but really, what have the Chiefs done with that guy running the show?
One could argue that their best year with him was the year that culminated with the infamous shoot out vs. the Colts at Arrowhead in the playoffs. The Chiefs defense was pathetic like no other before it (or after it, to this point). Even in that year, most of Green's (and a lot of Priest Holmes') success can be attributed to the offensive line, not because either guy was a spectacular playmaker.
Larry Johnson said it best in reference to Tony Gonzalez' gripe about last weekend's play-calling: "Tony can get away with saying that, I can't"
What he really wanted to say was: "Unless you're Barry Sanders, you need some semblence of good playing and at least a better-than-average offensive line to get something done." The Chiefs had neither on Saturday, and they had neither for a lot of the year, usually when they were playing teams they should have beaten.
Anybody remember when they played Cleveland? Cleveland had the "worst offensive line" in the league. The Chiefs response? About two blitzes the whole game against a QB that had never played in an NFL game.
Can you tell I'm a p'd off Chiefs fan?
Nobody cares about the chiefs.
They are content to go 8-8 every year and the fans haven't sniffed a championship in 37 years, which means not in your lifetime.
You can toss and turn all you want about why they lost in the playoff game that they considered their superbowl, the chiefs are a bunch of losers and arrowhead stadium is a big red toilet.
Thank you for your comments,
now run along....

I'm also tired of hearing on how great Shanahan is at play calling.I know I'm just a coach from the couch. I can tell what type of play is coming 75% of the time. If can you know the other team knows. But I'm not saying "Fire Shanahan". We also need a power back. Should have hung on to Mike Anderson. Cutler will be fine. Jake did his best, but thats not good enough. This is the NFL, not High School. Javon Walker is great receiver. We need to build the offense to involve him alot more. Sorry Rod, I Love Ya. In my view Shanahan has his work cut out for him. This off season will be a true test.
Cutler will be a major advancement than Jake.
