All Things Broncos: Denver’s season ends in overtime

First on the agenda for the offseason...find a new defensive coordinator.
  • Justin · 2 years ago
I think Greg Robinson may be available. All he did was lead your smelly ponies to a couple superbowls.

Guess we have nothing to worry about now, eh?

    Have fun golfing!

Could not agree more To not blitz on 3rd down with the game on the line and a must stop is pure stupidity. That front four by themselves can't do anything.

Ha! Ha! How sweet it is!! More revenge for the 1985 Monday Night Snowball incident! How sweet it is! ;-)
  • Dill · 2 years ago
Mr Bowlen you need to look into a new head coach. The players didn't lose this game as well as many of there other defeats. Mike's play calling all season is some of the worst I have ever seen. Matermind genius bull He couldn't out coach a high school team
  • jlalum01 · 2 years ago
D-line has no heart and no talent. O-line got man-handled. Rest of league has figured out Shanahan's stretch running scheme. Somebody on the blog please explain how in the hell a coach can let a safety come free from the line of scrimmage 5 times within one game.

Coyer's not to blame. He has no talent to deal with on d-line. Run blocking was average, pass blocking pathetic. Dennsion needs to go.
  • Thomas · 2 years ago
1)How about getting a decent running back instead of 2 ok backs. 2)Find a defense that can stop the run. 3) Realize that Shanahan is not a genius without Kubiak. 4) Savor this niner victory!
  • Chiefs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! · 2 years ago
    Nice going Denver Doncos!

    You guys are a joke!

    Bring back Roto Rooter Plumber!

Almost time for last place Rockies baseball! Ha Ha!
  • broncomikey87 · 2 years ago
Why can't we push the ball into the end zone inside the 5 yard line. That was a joke. Shanahan...it's time to go. We need a play caller that might actually try to get a first down or touch down. I am disgusted at this effort. Bowlen needs to circle the wagons and make some tough decisions. I spent $2000 to come see the broncos lose to the chargers. If pat wants to stand pat...I stay home next year and the broncos will continue to decline. What an embarassing season.
  • Anonymous · 2 years ago
I agree with Scott. Our D gave up way too much after the first half which leads me to believe that we are just bad at adjusting after the half. This has gone on all season long. Also, releasing Sauerbraun was a mistake.
  • JP · 2 years ago
    Speachless.
  • Ed · 2 years ago
I think we need to clean house, special teams coach, offensive line coach, need to go. And i think the game has passed Mike Shanahan by, everyone in the stadium and everywhere else knows what he is going to call. NO Imagination. I forgot to mention the defensive coordinator also. Oh well lets see how they waste their draft choice.
  • scott · 2 years ago
The 49ers made like Pee Wee Herman and exposed everything wrong with the Broncos. John Lynch should forfeit his pro bowl selection as a complete farce after an Alex Smith block blew him out of the key play of overtime. The defensive line needs to go back to Cleveland where it belongs. The offensive line needs to go to Atlanta where it belongs. The secondary once again made no plays when it counted. Tatum Bell once again fumbled in crunch time. Jake Plummer showed definitively why he is on the bench. Thank God they didn't win this game, because Tom Brady would have made it much worse than 55-10 or any of Payton Manning's recent conquests. Prepare for a long, cold winter Broncos fans because we will not sniff the playoffs for many years to come.
  • KCChiefs · 2 years ago
What a perfect way for the Chiefs to make the playoffs: Taking the Broncos slot while watching the Broncos lose at home in OT.
  • Mike, KC Chief Fan · 2 years ago
San Fran finished what Cincinnati should of finished last week!

    Happy New Year Donkeys!!!!!!

    Go Chiefs!!!!!!!
  • Darren · 2 years ago
That was the most unagressive OT playcalling ever. After marching down the field to tie the game, how can you possibly start OT with conservative running plays. Especially after we got the ball back on the 2nd offensive OT series. I'd couldn't bear to see a running play on 3rd and 2nd. When you play your offense not to lose in OT, you are going to lose. Shame on Shanahan for his passive play selections.
  • JP · 2 years ago
    Make that speechless.
  • mark · 2 years ago
denver wrote off the season when they went to the rookie quarterback. they have been inconsistent in all aspects of the game. expecting a rookie who was not a winner at the college level to make a difference was not logical, so it was obviously looking to next year. what a disappointment to denver fans. and, what does next year bode? elway was a winner at stanford, plummer a winner at asu, cutler is a kid with a strong arm. unless surrounded by players better than himself, the team will continue to flounder. he will not be the difference maker. and, the better players are not yet on the roster. aahh, how we long for the good old days!!!
  • Mike · 2 years ago
San Fran finished what Cincinnati should of finished last week!

I really hope Coyer is sent packing but I doubt Shanny will pull the trigger. He will amost always do the opposite of what everyone can see, kind od an "I'm the King mentality". Hopefully we can get some help through FA and the draft, but we have some big needs and you can't draft a Defensive Coordinator.
  • Neal · 2 years ago
Back when they switched to Cutler I predicted the Broncos would finish the season 2-3 and miss the playoffs. Lo and behold, they finished 2-3 with Jay Cutler and missed the playoffs.
  • scott · 2 years ago
Yeah, good luck Chiefs. After making I guy I no one ever heard of look like a pro bowler today I'm sure you'll have no trouble with Payton Manning, at home, with something to prove. Better you than us.

    WTF?
  • Tim · 2 years ago
    Whoo-hoo!!!

    Enjoy the offseason Broncos.

    GO CHIEFS!!!!
  • Doug J · 2 years ago
Shanahan does not fumble the ball away, Shanahan does not throw interceptions, Shanahan does not leave recievers wide open on 3rd down. The coach can only do so much, if the players don't execute (see Broncos all season) the team will fail. Denver needs players that want to win and will fight to do so. Until then, the team will continue to lose.
  • Refs · 2 years ago
How about the worst series of officiating calls in NFL history? If you pick up a fumble, do you hand the ball to the ref? Of course not. Add two non-calls on interference, a phantom holding call on Alexander, and an inexplicable overturn to something they did not even challenge--who are these refs, Lamar Hunt's ghosts???
  • Dan Reeves · 2 years ago
    If I were head coach
I would be more conservative on play calling allowing my defense to wear out during the second half. Oh wait that is what they did! It sure is nice to see Mike realize what a great coach I was
  • PS · 2 years ago
OK, now we have finished witnessing one of the lamest finishes in Shanahan history. He has still done nothing spectacular since Elway retired. Oh, and he has stuck with a very below average defensive coordinator. Please get a D-Coordinator who can scheme up some way to rush the passer and maybe, just maybe, teach these guys some intensity and tackling skills?
  • scott · 2 years ago
good for you Neal, after watching Plummer today are you really wishing they wouldn't have made that switch? That guy obviously hasn't looked at a playbook since he got benched. Cutler didn't lose this game, about 20 other Broncos did that for him.
  • DP · 2 years ago
    My $0.02:

    1. Lack of committment by the entire team
    2. Poor play calling (running backs end up in a crowd of defensive players, QB ends up throwing the ball in a crowd). Very predictable offense and defense, lack of trick plays.
    3. Inconsistency, inexperience in QB position
    4. Need one running back, not 3 - need to focus on a quality running back
    4. Need more defensive talent
    5. Lack of football fundamentals - coaches need to coach basic skills to players
  • RajS · 2 years ago
Broncos need to get a new defensive coordinator. Coyer could not make adjustments after the half to match Friscos changes. Also Coyer should serve an apprenticeship with SF's defensive coordinator about various blitzes and how to use them.
His defence team should be told that when it is 3rd down and 3 to go, you don't retreat 4 yds and at 3rd and 4 don't retreat 5 yds etc.
More than the offense, the defence lost the games because it was unable to stop any offense when it mattered. I also suspect that lynch once a good player is a liability for he is no help to the cb at his side.
We haven't heard the linebackers mentioned in many of the games that we lost.Coyer's schemes took care of that.
  • scott · 2 years ago

  • PhillyEagleFan · 2 years ago
Ok, so the 49ers beat the broncos , but lets look at the bigger picture on why that happened. All week, the dumba$$ denver media and fans were talking about playoff scenarios - like the broncos playing the pats and how you own them every time you play them, or perhaps beating indy with the problems their defense has against the run.
But you should have been looking into the 49er game. Everyone shrugged this one off as an easy win. How dumb.... Now the bronx get to sit on the couch and watch the Chiefs play next weekend. What an interesting turn of events.....

I hope the Broncos go through a long losing streak, similiar to the Raiders. It is amusing watching all of the fans foam at the mouth, point fingers at players for losses and call for players and coaches to be fired.
  • Bob · 2 years ago
Bad ending, but it fits the rest of the season. Can only go so far with a mediocre running game, no blocking and a clueless Def Corrdinator. Bolen needs to sit Shanny in the corner and give him the once over about his pathetic coaching staff. Hey, maybe Kubiak will get fired next year so we can rehire him-as a head coach.
  • john, bronco fan since 1960 · 2 years ago
Shanahan has got to go. His playcalling is pathetic...his teams have no fire...his record is mediocre since Elway left...Having said that, maybe, just maybe Jay Cutler is going to be a great one!!What he needs is a new, competent coach and better players around him!!! Unbelievaly incompetent performance inside thwe five yard line. Lang cost us the game by not falling on the ball just before halftime, therefore giving 3 easy points to the niners. Keep Champ Bailey, Rod Smith, the linebackers, and Cutler and the receiving corps and get rid of the rest!!
  • Merlin of Lincolnshire · 2 years ago
All dreams have to come to an end,but to have them ended by the Niners what a truly pathetic end to a once promising season.Shanahan has a lot to do,l expect him to be at his desk in the morning making a start on next years draft picks before anything else.Best wishes to Jay for a speedy recovery we need you.To all Broncos Fans try to have a Happy New Year.

What a pathetic but fitting way to end this season. No one could make a play when it mattered most. Broncos on the demise.
  • patsfaninpittsburgh · 2 years ago
    Guys

Look on the bright side. Mike Shanahan has the best record against Bill Belichick.

Also, off years happen. The Patriots finished only 12-4, are a FOURTH SEED, and lost to the Broncos.
  • Paul · 2 years ago
This just in from KC --- Hey Denver:HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

    Have a nice off season.
  • broncguys · 2 years ago
    Glaring weaknesses: Both Lines!
O-line: Bring back Alex Gibbs, no continuity on oline, they seem out of sync. This is a coaching issue. Gibbs would never allow the line to perform this poorly.
D-line: is not thick enough to clog up the running game (fast linebackers are only effective when your Dline can clog up the running lanes and occupy the blockers, therefore, freeing up the linebackers to make plays). Maybe a defensive coaching change.
  • Curtis K · 2 years ago
The Broncos never recovered from the Chargers'second half comeback in Denver.
  • Ryan · 2 years ago
When it comes down to it, our Broncos didn't deserve to make the playoffs this year, but for the one poster to say that we won't sniff the playoffs for many years to come is crazy. There's a lot to look forward to next year, although I agree with those of you that think Coyer should go. Last year we blitzed almost every down and lost in the AFC Championship because of being predictable in that. This year we almost never blitzed, and let a terrible front four do nothing all season long. We tried both ways, and neither one worked, see ya Larry, been nice knowin' ya.
  • John · 2 years ago
Home Field advantage did not even help the Bronco's this time. Get ready for many loosing seasons ahead.

    GO CHARGERS !!!
  • Mike KC Chiefs · 2 years ago
Scott, you are correct, better us than you. LJ will run over the colts!
  • broncomikey87 · 2 years ago
Hey Darren...you have it pegged. Shanahan's play calling is a head scratcher to the 9th degee. 3rd down and 6 to go and we watch a 4 yard spot pass (4th and 2). Inside the 5..punch..punch...punch..field goal.

Hey Doug...come on the players play the game but the coaches still call the plays. This season was the worse offensive play calling that I can remember. If it's 3rd and 3..the pass is a swing pass for 2 yards.

Cripes try to win. Bowlen I am so pissed off at this season and if you read the posts so are a lot of other bronco fans.
  • howeda7 · 2 years ago
Those of you calling for Shanahan's firing need to get a clue. I'm from Minnesota and theferefore am required to bleed purple along with Orange and Blue. Minnesota hasn't had a decent coach since Bud Grant and Childress appears to be the worst of them all.

You have one of the top 3 coaches in the NFL. In 12 years he's gotten you to the play-offs 7 times, the AFC championship 3 times and the Super Bowl twice. I know it's been a while since the Super Bowl's, but it's only been 11 months since you were playing in the AFC Championship game!

The Broncos lost a couple games they definately should have won, today most of all. And yes they have a few personnel needs. But on thing they do not need is to fire the coach!
  • chiefsfan · 2 years ago
Thank you Broncos. After years of domination blended with a lot of luck, your end was due. That missed extra point last week was your final bit of luck.

Watch out for the Chiefs...the balance of power is shifting in the West. Get used to it!

Wow, I am really proud of the way my former team backed into the playoffs. I will be even more proud when they lose to Indy by 50 next week, it will still be the best Chiefs moment in the last 20 years.
  • vicos · 2 years ago
jajaja, the chiefs fans are so stupid, they have the less talented team in the division!! i'd prefer to stay out of the playoffs than taking 50 points from the colts, enjoy it losers because your team goes to playoffs once every 30 years jajaja

Here's the fix: Keep Champ, release everyone else. Run help-wanted ad in the Denver Post for new players, coaches starting Monday. C'ya next year.
  • JohnElway4Ever · 2 years ago
IF Mike Shanahan remains the head coach, his first order of business in this off-season (which starts today thanks to inept playing and play calling,) he needs to get rid of Dennison and get another offensive line coach. Dennison is NO offensive genius, he played linebacker when he was a player. He does not possess the skills or genius that Alex Gibbs possesses and he never will. Secondly, Shanahan needs to get rid of Coyer and get a defensive coordinator who has some moxie and isn't afraid to play some defense. He needs to rethink the players he has on the defensive line, outside of Mike Myers, Dumervil and Ekuban he really doesn't have a pass rusher. Did you see how many times today the 49ers blitzed, sending their corners and safeties, and each and every time they sacked Cutler for big losses? We should be doing the same thing defensively but we're not; and offensively, we should have adjusted to that after it happened the first time, instead of letting them do it again and again against us. Thirdly, we need better offensive linemen. Foster may be big, but he is a joke. 300 pounds of nothing to look at. He can't pass block, he can't defend against the run, so what is he doing out there? Pears was ok, and perhaps being thrust into the starting lineup will help him out for next season, but let's face it: unless Denver gets better offensive linemen and a better offensive line coach, they are going to continue to be like they are right now...not much of nothing. Tatum Bell needs to be put on the trading block and hopefully we can get a player or two in the draft for him. He is not responsible or dependable enough to be the 1st string tailback, although I do feel that the referees cost him that fumble today, they didn't get either call they had challenges on right. Plus they gave San Francisco and extra time out. Denver deserves to not be in the playoffs, they did nothing to deserve to be there. Shanahan has a lot of housecleaning to do before next season starts and if he has any brains in his head he will get started tonight by letting some players go who really aren't worth the money they were being paid this season. Now all we can hope for is the Jets do something positive, because personally, I cannot stand any other team from the AFC who is in the playoffs. San Diego is there because their mediocrity finally paid off for them in the way of draft picks. Denver should have been smart and lost the remaining games and gotten themselves in a position for a higher draft pick. Now they are in the middle of the heap and they don't stand a chance of getting anyone of caliber...too bad Broncos...you had your opportunities today, but when you choke in the red zone on three separate occasions and settle for field goals instead of touchdowns, it is clear that you really don't want the victory either. You will have to live with that all off-season, and you have made your fans suffer through your miserable season, hoping you will snap out of your slump, only to watch you dive head first into the off-season with your pathetic play today. Let's Go Jets!!!!
  • Bob · 2 years ago
Pats fan here....if the Pats had the Broncos in the playoffs next week, I would be worried; the Broncos had our number. Your problem is not your coach, in my opinion. You need a top-notch QB. Cutler has potential, but not there yet.
  • Steve · 2 years ago
Maybe it's time to think about changing the coaching staff. Mike seems to have lost the
ability to observe and react to the obvious.
  • Layne · 2 years ago
Why the hell does Coyer seem so afraid to blitz when his defense is going against a young quarterback in a hostile enviroment? Smith would have wilted but instead we waste the most talented linebacking corp in the league. Pathetic!
And for all of the Chiefs fans rejoicing: Kind of sad that you can only make the playoffs by other teams losing. Have fun getting demolished by Peyton and Co.

What a kicker! His kick-off at even Mile high reaches only about the 13 or 12 yds line and not high enough. By the time the Broncos reach the returner he is already at 20yds
Give it to T. Bell to fumble the ball at critical times so that the opponents can win.
The D-line was good last year because of Pryce. Denver goofed there. Could have kept him and dispensed off a couple of them who are now there.
  • nick · 2 years ago
Many posters hit the nail - coaching, play calls, plus
    lets play with a concussion.
The defense must have thought they were cool 1st half season so now they rest

I haven't lived in Denver for 4 years, but you guys are losing your minds up there. First of all Cutler is NOT Elway. For that matter you need to forget about Elway and move on. Ok there I said it. I seriously doubt the Broncos would have gone 2-3 with Plummer at ther helm for the last 5 games. Sure he isn't going to win you a Super Bowl, but he took the fall for Shanny this year. Kubiak was a way better play caller and it hurt the team this year. Add this to the never ending cycle of RB's is a recipe for disaster. Putting a dinged up Cutler was the end though. Bad move. Don't blame the players for this loss (or the season), blame the coach. He gave up when he mad the QB change. When are you guys going to realize Shanny's responsible for this???

    Hey,

Keep your chin up Donkeys. I'll let you have Dennis Green, since your last pick up from my team worked out so well.

The broncos need to make some major changes next year or they will end up the same way. Not only players they need to find some coaches too. But Shanahan runs the team his way and will not listen to anyone, so the broncos will keep having this type of season year after year. To bad!

For those of you who would rather see the Rookie play than to make the playoffs this year, you got your wish!

I wish that Mike had figured out a way to help Plummer play better and finish out the season with the Broncos in the playoffs. We beat the Pats in NE earlier in the season and Jake has never lost to Brady. If we had gotten past NE, who knows what could have happened with Indy playing so poorly.

The buck stops.... somewhere else.... for the Denver Bronco's coaching staff. Shanahan can not be blamed because he is infallible. That must have been Mayor Hickenlooper posing on the sidelines in a Mike Shanahan mask. The results were the same for the Broncos as for the city government's response in plowing streets and keeping the airport open. Failure.

Both the Broncos and Bengals had everything to play for, while thier opponets had disappointing seasons and were out of the playoffs. Yet in both games, the teams with the most to play for were flat and were out hit and out hustled.

Poor coaching by Shanahan and Lewis. Neither the Broncos or Bengals deserved to make playoffs this year.

It's funny that the season is over and instead of looking for new players, I think the biggest need this offseason will be to hire some new coaches. Here's what needs improvement as I see it:

    1) Pass rush - this year there was one word to describe it: PATHETIC! Coyer never adjusted to fix this the entire year and it cost them several games.

    2) Consistent running game. Tatum does not look to be the future running game the Broncos have been missing since Portis.

    3) Offensive creativity. Honestly I have more plays on my Madden 2007 team than Denver seemed to run each game. It was BORING and painful to guess almost every play. This should be Dennison's fault.

I don't blame the lack of a ground game on the O-line as much simply because with a rookie QB (or a crappy one like Plummer) teams won't compensate as much for the throw which allows them to focus more on stopping the run. Give Cutler a few more years and some of the other young talent a few more years and this will greatly improve. Tatum isn't consistent though and I wouldn't consider him to be the future back.

Most likely, the coaches will look to bring a few players in for help, but unless they change their strategies it's going to be another Redskin roster with Redskin results. High profile, low productivity again.

I too think that the Chief and 49er fans need their own friggin' website. The Chiefs backed into the playoffs...do you really think the team will do anything? Not no, but HE** NO!! The Chiefs aren't any better than the Broncos...so you're going to Indy...big deal...and the 49ers...well you won a game, so what...you're going home too...the fact is, this is THE DENVER POST AND IT'S FOR THE PEOPLE OF DENVER AND THE FANS OF DENVER...THE ONLY REASON YOU JERKS COME HERE IS BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR OWN WEBSITE...plus you think you are showing your intelligence by gloating...well remember this Chief and 49er fans, paybacks are a b*tch...and what goes around, comes around...and you will get yours...you may have won this fight, but you will never win the war...

It is probably good that the Broncos did not pull it out. The whole game they looked as though playing another game would entirely discredit the franchise. The did not want it. It breaks my heart. They need to address some very serious isues in the offseason. They need a first round RB and some D-Linemen. Please get better in the offseason, missing the playoffs is one thing, but giving it to the chiefs is quite another.

I'm out here taking in this game on my way up to the mountains for a ski week that I hope will turn out better than this game. I don't know how we could have lost this game today. I mean they really looked like a team that was confused. I was so in hopes that The Snake was going to come in and save the day. But unfortunately my original prediction came true when Jake was replaced with Jay for the season, that we would not make the playoffs. I really felt our best shot at making them was sticking with Jake, you dont turn the team upside down midseason with a new QB. But at least Jay has his feet wet now and can start fresh next season. We will make the necessary changes, and that DOES NOT include a new coach, people. I wish Jay all the luck in the world wherever he ends up (I'm a Jake supporter), I hope it's not Oakland, no one deserves that! I hope all the good guys are back like Rod, and how about Champ being named Defensive Player of the Year? I'm really bummed about no playoffs, but truth is we wouldn't have gone too far. But we will be back!!! THE CHIEFS??? THEY STINK! One and OUT!!!

I would rather see a rookie do fairly well than a 10 year vet do horrible. Today, justified all the negative things about Plummer. If you people did not notice, our offense and team became horrible once the FAKE stepped on the field.

Maybe I'm the only Broncos fan that sees this loss in a somewhat positive light:

a.) We don't have to fly to Indy next week and play the Colts as the 6th seed.

b.) With all our rookies outplaying our veterans on offense, next year has a very, very exciting outlook. Getting our offense back to domination is what this team needs to improve.

c.) We get to BLOW UP the O-Line sooner rather than later. George Foster simply must go. Cutler was getting KILLED, almost literally, and the O-Line lost us the game when Cutler was sent to the sideline, concussed for a quarter (and then some when he was delerious in the 3rd quarter).

d.) We'll get a much higher draft choice now. Perhaps we can get a solid new running back when we DUMP Tatum Bell.

e.) Cutler was given the chance to prove himself, and I believe he has. If Plummer had stayed starter to finish the season, ALL the news during the offseason would have been: "quarterback controversy in denver, blah blah blah". Now we won't nearly have to hear much of "Denver waits to see how Culter performs", or so I hope.

f.) To the people calling for the demise of Shanahan: wow, do you have any concept of how far this team has come under him - and continues to go? Lose the final game of the season and I half expect some of you to start crying to have Wade Philips rehired.

g.) The defense needs work, but not nearly as much as the offense. We won two super bowls with a defense that was far more questionable than the current one.
  • David B. · 2 years ago
The Broncos finished the season at 4-6. Both lines were injury depleted and exposed. They are at best an average team. They had the ball three times with first down inside the five yard line with no touchdowns to show for it. When you have the personnel, it doesn't matter what the play calling is--you score.

On the defensive side, the pass rush was virtually non-existant after the first quarter of the season. They ran out of gas. They couldn't
    stop the run either.

The game is still won up front no matter who's playing QB. If you can't rush the passer in this league--you lose--period. Injuries and lack of depth took their toll up front.

For the nay sayers about Shanny as a talent evaluator, I kindly remind them to look at this year's draft with Cutler, Sheffler, Marshall and Dumervil, just to name a few. I am confident Denver can address their lack of depth on the LINES next year.

Other than the Patriots, no team has successfully negotiated consistant winning seasons in the salary cap era. Cutler gives this team the hope to be great one year--Plummer clearly reached his peak last year. The Broncos have a bright future and did the right thing by giving the kid his chance.
  • Everett · 2 years ago
I'm really surprised to see that people are whining about Jay Cutler and saying Plummer should have stuck out the season to make the playoffs. What's the point in making the playoffs when you're a team like the Chiefs and will get destroyed in the first round anyways? I think it was much better to take the sacrifice and get Cutler his reps. It will benefit us much more down the road. Plummer is done (thankfully) and Cutler can start a new season next year with some valuable experience under his belt. It was the right thing to do. Plummer wasn't going to take us deep into the playoffs so it's better that Jay got started on his learning curve.

    Lanky Stanker (Post # 88):

Strange that you mentioned that you find pleasure in fact that two people (Lynch and Shanahan) who backed Pres. Bush lost.

If you knew anything about pro sports, you would know that pro athletes vote Republican by a vast majority b/c Republicans are for lower taxes. It's a one issue vote for these guys who make millions per year. Read John Feinstein's book about the Ravens, Next Man Up and get a clue.

Tough loss..but this team has been inconsistent after a fast start. What i saw was 5-6-7 yard bursts up the gut...over and over...straight ahead at the heart of the defense. What happen to guys getting angry, energized and fighting mad for all their worth at the end of the game...the end of the year...after all the work they have put in? I saw a defense standing, not talking or trying to come together to make a stop. That is about "players"....having said that its time for Larry to go. This is a performance business and his unit isn't getting it done at the end of games period...."Walker"...you ask for the ball and on a play that may very well bust open for a Touch you completely let your team down. Great players don't miss that opportunity. Good bye George...good bye Jake(thanks)it may sound crazy but i agree with those that say draft defense and lots of it....Brandon is excellent..the receivers have a chance to be special with this year under the belts...Jay Cutler has me in his corner and i'm psyched he is a Bronco. We are not far away from where we want to be so i say tip your hat to the 49er's ...congrats to the Chiefs and be proud to be a Bronco fan. Best organization in sports. Thanks Pat, Mike and especially Rod.....2 more years! Go Nugget's....

Of all the teams that played today and needed a win Denver was the most pathetic. The coaching was ptiful and the offensive and defensive lines got pushed around all day. The Broncos obviously did not come to play today. The defensive coaching is pathetic. Playing Tatum Bell instead of Mike Bell with Tatum's pathetic performances in the last few games was totally idiotic. The donkeys have some serious issues to address, this might be the beginning of a rebuilding year in 07.

Shanahan's move to Cutler backfired. Jake would not have lost to Seattle or San Francisco. After what this city of Denver has been through the last week with the 2 huge storms, the city deserved a much better performance by the Broncos. Shanahan is too caught up with the X's and O's, and has forgotten the basics of how to motivate a team to perform at a level worthy of their potential. This loss is the worst since Jacksonville came pummeled Denver in the Divsional playoffs years ago.

4)Nothing good has ever come out of Cleveland

I was out there a few years ago when the PATS won in the last 30 seconds - you remember when we intentionally took a safety to get the ball back in the last minute so that Brady could drive down and win the game???? - you guys showed no class then when you lost -and you show no class now!

Jay Cutler is impressive...the defense isn't...I told my son today I wish we had 5 Champ Bailey's! Maybe we can get his brother Boss! Maybe their is a cousin Named Bruise Bailey!

Oh well, it's trite to say there is always next year....but there is, and truthfully this team and their porous...no pressuring of the quarterback, defensive line, Darrant ( I will Look at Lynch, and maybe the fans will think it's his fault) Williams would have made a hasty exit if they had made the playoffs!

The Broncs shouldn't have been in the playoffs anyway. This was a very mediocre team with some really bad coaching for most of the year. At least we got out now, unlike the Chiefs, who will be humiliated on national TV next week. Better to be at home watching those clowns get disgraced instead of watching it happen to the Broncos.
  • Sue · 2 years ago
Well said, Chad (#102). This team needs to acquire a lot of help in the offseason, especially a good offensive line and a back who will provide more of a power running game.

I think Mike Shanahan was primarily responsible for John Elway's development and hopefully he and the Broncos coaching staff will do as good a job with Jay Cutler.

This game truly WAS a "picture perfect" view of the football personel "The Mastermind" has put together.

Todays game shows that Shanny truly has no clue of how to run a football team. The man has made 3 good personel decisions in his entire term as head coach of the broncos. Trading for Champ Bailey, signing John Lynch and finding Rod Smith. These 3 men are the only 3 who truly BLEED ORANGE BLOOD!!! Did you see Lynch slam his helmit in discust? If there only was a "fountain of youth" for him and Rod Smith.

Al Wilson, guess he's not the Warrior we all thought!

Javon "The Answer?" Walker? Give me Donald Driver, he has heart!

Tatum Bell, have fun in Oakland next year! Because the only team dumb enough to sign you to a contract is the oAKLAND rAIDERS. Trust me!

The O-Line...What a bunch of little girls, Oh Wait......Thats the DL line Im talking about. Browncows???

Thanks to Mike Heimerdinger for finally talking some since into the Mastermind on draft day. Nice rookie class to build on.

Larry Coyer, what are you really smoking in that pipe of yours? You defensive scheme all season was predictable at best.

So Seeing how the list could go on and on. I choose to fix the gaping wound. A great place to start is with the Team Philosophy. It is time for a new message! Time for a New Head Coach.

The 49ers? From what I saw at their training camp this summer, I would have beat the HOUSE in Vegas that the Broncos were a better team. Talent wise Denver gets the nod. Problem is, today we were out coached. PLAIN AND SIMPLY OUT COACHED!!!

My Colts have the best composite record over the last eight seasons and have made the playoffs in seven of them (1999 thru 2006 except for '01), but just because we haven't made the Super Bowl yet the fans are ready to fire Tony Dungy. The reason that the Broncos lost the game was the play calling. Why would you want to play zone defense when all they need is a field goal? Fire all the coaches and unproductive players. All you unhappy Bronco fans need to relax. Shanahan will not be fired and the offseason needs will be taken care of - sure after a 7-2 record, to finish 9-7 and miss the playoffs stinks, but some major changes were made during this season. I have NO doubt next season the Broncos will be super contenders. Cutler, Marshall and Shefler will be stars. The o-line will be better with a few practice squad rookies We'll get a pass rusher in free agency and a running back in the draft. You can't win all the time and there are alot more teams in a much much much worse situation.
Calm down - I AM POSITIVE the Broncos will win a SB very soon.

Well you Chief fans really have us this year. I mean, you beat us 1 out of 2 times, that must mean you are dominant. Oh, and you beat a common opponent. That must make you better. I'm sure you didn't ruin LJ's career by rushing him some 800 times this year, and I'm sure he has plenty of gas left in the tank for the playoffs. If not, Trent Green will surely bail you out by throwing to the soon to be gone Gonzalez or maybe "I only quit when it's tough" Kennison. So put on your red, drive to paradise (at least that's what Indy must feel like compared to KC)spend your entire year's paycheck on one game ($2500), and enjoy watching your beloved Chefs get beat by 50.

    Hi Bronco Fans;

First off, I have been where you are, but worse. When the Chiefs were 13-0 and really playing great ball, Marty replaces Gannon with Bono and we lose the playoff game. So, while I feel your pain, it kind of helps us get a monkey off our back.
For those that say paybeack is hell, well....this is our payback time, I guess. Things cycle and for the past few years, both the Chiefs and Broncos have just barely been better than average. Both teams need to do work to make the next level.
We go to Indy next week, and we DID NOT back into the playoffs, each game stands on its own, and had the time of games been reversed, no one would be saying 'back in' Backing in is getting to the playoffs when you LOSE. That didn't happen.
Looking forward to next week, win or lose and if we lose, I am rooting for Marty to win it all, he deserves it.

The only thing better than seeing the Chiefs back into the playoffs over the Broncos - undeserving teams, both - is watching you guys rip your team to shreds after a 9-7 season. There's a reason your team was only 4-4 at home - they know just what kinds of "fans" they're playing for.

By the way, signing your posts with the names of people who died from cancer or in car wrecks - e.g., Lamar Hunt, Derrick Thomas - is about as classless as it gets. Pure Denver.

What is all this about Lamar Hunt's "class?" So he wanted a home game for Thanksgiving, should he get the Nobel Prize? Or does making a billion dollars off of football qualify him for that? #102/103/104 pretty much sum everything up, though I thought that we would have been the 5th seed in the playoffs (but I could be wrong).

Its obviously dark times in Chiefs-land when the fans have to be so ecstatic with a mediocre record and a back-pedal into the playoffs. Oh well, Chiefs fans, at least you have a black head coach who LJ will run hard for. The sad thing is that the Chiefs could throw 5 passes against the Colts and probably still win simply because the Colts run-D is so bad.

Its New Years Eve though, so next year is something to look forward to right now. Continued improvement from Cutler, Scheffler, and Marshall will be fun to watch. Hopefully the off-season will bring some changes and maybe some new faces on the field or on the sidelines. The running back situation needs to be figured out. Fortunately for Tatum Bell, fumbles are something that can be corrected. Tiki Barber was a fumbler early in his career too. I don't necessarily think T. Bell is the answer at RB, but he can improve, and so can M. Bell. As for the defensive side of the ball, something big needs to be done. Either the line needs to be revamped so that we can put pressure on the QB with the front four, or that cornerback not named Champ needs to greatly improve so that we don't need all three LBs for pass coverage and can implement more blitzing situations. Whatever happens though, I think Coyer needs to go. But most of all, Rod Smith deserves the utmost respect and praise for the way that he has conducted himself on and off the field.

Oh, and Champ Bailey for Defensive MVP! I can't think of a defensive player who meant more to their defense than Champ did this season. Think about this: Your Denver Broncos starting cornerbacks - Darrent Williams and Dominique Foxworth. Scary, huh?

As a San Diego native, I'm required to cheer for the Chargers when the Broncos are not in contention, but I do so reluctantly. As long as Peyton Manning goes another year without a ring, I will be satisfied.

I love the comment by Chiefs Fan. If it wasn't for Elway the Broncos wouldn't have won any super bowls. That is the dumbest comment I've ever heard. Good rationale you moron. I guess it could be said that without Montana the 49ers don't win their super bowls and without Brady the Patriots are nothing. I understand the Chiefs fan's frustration. Since the 70's you have been second rate to the Broncos nearly every year. You choke in the playoffs, you've never had a franchise QB, and your next playoff win this century will be your first. Congratulations on backing into the playoffs Chiefs fans, you should be so proud of your marginal 9-7 team.
  • MemphisBronco · 2 years ago
I am not as pessimistic as some Broncs fans. While not making the playoffs is incredibly disappointing, I do like the direction of the team.
I believe that Shanahan is an amazing coach. Granted he has not repeated the success that he had with Elway, but he has had some unfortunate luck in terms of QB's i.e. Brian Griese stepping on dog, and Jake Plummer losing his mind! With Jay Cutler, Tony Scheffler, Mike Bell, and Brandon Marshall's emergence, we have the pieces to be successful for some time. Need a better D-Line, and possibly D-Coordinator, but it is not Shanahan's fault that players have not panned out. Relax, we will be winning Super Bowls in the near future!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To kc mike, comment #131...drop dead...your "web page" doesn't allow for anyone to post...which figures...the web page is as lame as your pathetic chiefs...you backed in to the playoffs and, as usual, you will choke...it doesn't matter who you have coaching...when the going gets tough...your team always chokes...when was the last time your pathetic team went to a super bowl? Oh yeah...I remember now...wasn't Super Bowl IV? and this year it's Super Bowl XLI...so do the math airhead...how long has it been since your pathetic team made it to the big show? You gloat because you're ignorant...and your team isn't that great either...so stuff it where the sun don't shine...cuz your team won't shine either....you are nothing more than a "little man" sad and pathetic....tsk, tsk, tsk....
  • Max · 2 years ago
Chiefs proud #143 your comments are ridiculous. You mean to tell me that no matter what happens when the Chiefs lose (which they do more often than not) that nobody criticizes the team or asks for change. That's not what I call a fan, that's what I call idiocy. No wonder the Chiefs are always a marginal team, it seems their fans don't seem to care if they win or not, just as long as they show up to play. True fans, like Bronco fans, expect and demand more of their team and when things don't turn out the way we hope it is the very definition of a fan to criticize. No bandwagon jumping here, just higher expectations. Something you Chiefs fans wouldn't know anything about.

I've heard so many references to the Mastermind over the years but I don't see it. I think he's a good coach and had a lot of great talent and good fortune for 2 years in the 90s.
  • nitrowarrior · 2 years ago
This is so heartbreaking. This team has so nuch talent and yet the "togtherness" hasn't been on the field for a big part of the season. I do not condone dismissing any of the staff, just wish they could realize what's in front of them and what they have to work with. Great association, just no progress with what can be the best team to get another superbowl ring. P.S. all of you anti-bronco fans can go back to that miserable place you got displaced from, Amen.

  • Scott · 2 years ago
The problem is certainly not the defense. 6th best points against in the AFC. 2 more points allowed than the #1 seed Chargers. 12th best points for in the AFC is not going to get you anywhere (73 less than SD). When the schedule first came out I was thinking worse possible case, 8-8. Best possible, 10-6. Well, they split the difference. I'm actually fine not making the playoffs now. If they came out and smoked the Niners, maybe we could make some noise. But as the Broncos stand now, it'd be one and done.

Niners have been playing better and better as the year has gone on.

Chiefs, well, good luck. Indy isn't playing well, you might have a chance. Early line is only 7.
  • Brian F. · 2 years ago
I don't believe a 9-7 season is cause for throwing out the coach, but it ultimately is his responsibility to get his team ready to play. SF is no pushover, but Denver should've beat them handily today with the playoffs at stake.

I'm not saying get rid of Shannahan (yet), but I pin the season on him. Plummer just wasn't the same looking over his shoulder. Yes, these athletes are paid millions and should perform no matter what the situation. Some would also argue that they should step it up when pushed. However, most would get tense in such situations - it sure showed in Jake this year, and probably effected the overall team chemistry.

The QB change is just one aspect. We've all talked about the RB rotation, defensive schemes and play calling (by the way, what's the deal with calling a QB sneak when you only have 2 QB's on the roster and the starter just got his bell rung?) We have holes, but all teams do.

The good news is that there is so much parity in the NFL that the Broncos can do well next year with a few tweaks. Or, they could go backwards. If so, out with Shanny.

I'm glad the Plummer bashing/blame can finally stop. Congrats to Jake for leaving with a great record, good stats and the respect of his teamates and most fans.

    Dear Chiefs Fans,
The Chiefs and the Broncos have the same record, and each beat the other this season. The fact that you beat a poor 49ers team - which was the high point of your season judging by the way you all are repeating the score - now puts you among the NFL's elite? Its a shame that you didn't learn from Lamar Hunt how to exhibit the same level of class as he did. I'm sure he would have told us we had a good football team (even if that isn't true) and wished us luck in the off-season. How unlike your beloved owner you all are.

The way that the Bronc's played this year, they should not be in the playoffs. This is not a playoff team.....there is a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. But there needs to be more indivudual production, as well as team mental and physical toughtness.

When will you learn that this is what you should come to expect with little Shanny coaching without your god Elway! I wish they would bring back Mr Ed to play for the Donks! I love living in this state and listening to fans cry and complain about how they were robbed by a play here or there and that they should be in the playoffs! Last year with Smith as a rookie your team finished 4-12...at least our rookie finished 3-2 and the team finished 9-7...at least they were above .500 which is more than you can say for your sorry team...the Broncos have at least stayed in the fight til the end...which is more than your team has done...and your team is building through draft picks just like San Diego has, so eventually you will have a team to speak of...but Denver has consistently remained in the game...never having to hang their heads in shame because they had poor seasons...and they have built through free agency...do you honestly think that your team or San Diego's for that matter are going to stay pat with the teams you have now or are building? Can you spell "FREE AGENCY," or even say it? Once your players show what they are made of, they will leave and go where the money is...that's the way of free agency...then you will be right back in the cellar again...and Denver will continue to build on what they have and get better and better every year...too bad you can't say that for your team....

I dont get the "hooplah" about Champ Bailey and John Lynch... If football is a team sport why is it that the defensive team gets pushed around week after week...So Bailey makes an interception? Big deal, their offensive line pushes our defense around. And what about the pass rush? We play the stupid zone defense game after game and watch our opponents put together 8 minute drives....The special teams are an embarassment. Maybe we can get a kicker then can boot it past the 15 yard line. Every time we kicked off to S.F it was an automatic that they would have the ball on the 40. Offensively Cutler has not impressed me what so ever. Sure he is a rookie and threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown and cost us the game. Hopefully he will develop over the next few years. You have to give him some slack because he was blitzed and pounded relentlessly by the powerful 49ers... Sure I am bummed out but have been through this scenario as a die hard fan of the broncs... Shanahan is the best coach in football and will put the winning combination together.. But he has his worked cut out.

The Broncos are famous for dirty line play which has ended good players careers, steroid abuse (Lisle Alzado started the trend and even your kicker Todd Saurbruen got caught), and those ugly stripped socks.

The Chiefs had the best record in football in the 90's and dominated the buccos in the 60's and 70's.

You have one hall of famer and an over-inflated view of your team.

First, can I offer some cheese to the whiners? After shedding a few tears, I realized that this loss could prove to equal the Jax playoff loss of 97. The heartache isn't quite the same since this team had no shot of making the super bowl, but today's loss still hurts. Shanahan is still one of the best coaches in the league, and I am sure that he will be working tomorrow on how to avoid similar results next year. Let's just hope that Santa left us some offensive and defensive lineman under the tree this year!
  • Jim · 2 years ago
If I see one more kickoff to the 12 yard line I will freakin scream!! Release of Sauerbrun was an ego thing for Shanahan - you bet your but. Get rid of Ernster! Broncs doing real good to hold a kick return inside the 37 yard line... pathetic. Three runs up the middle on last possession got us what we deserved... but there will be no golf for a long time here in the North Pole! Officiating was an embarrassment. NFL needs to add a whistle signal that seemlessly enters into the replays (not too hard). Tatum's "fumble" was one of the worst overturns I've ever seen! Ref had blown the play dead and was reaching for the ball! NFL needs to address when a play is dead this offseason... seen this several times this year.

Ode to the nation of Broncos fans:
    It's Jake's fault, it surely cannot be a lie;
Just as sure as John Lynch misses a key assignment,oh my.
    It's Jake's fault when the defense cannot make a key stop;
It surely couldn't be the D's impression of a Keystone Cop.
It's Jakes fault when Tatum drops the skin:
Oh, that can't be, to blame someone other than Jake is a sin.
    It's Jake's fault when the Cutler fumbles and flops key throws to the 49ers and mythical Seahawk;
Surely couldn't be the special teams that causes the fans to gawk.
    It's Jake's fault they are now an also ran;
One must never blame the "Mastermind" Shanahan.

    Get real:

Defense lost to the Colts, Chargers, Seahawks, and 49ers game all by themselves.

Your great rookie tight end? He was benched earlier in the season because he couldn't catch a pass aka the doink of his helmet the first game of the year....and now Cutler's roomate can....hmmmm...

Best chance to win? Oh yea, the rookie got his feet wet, and his bell rung. And what did the coach do with all the loyal die hard fans and playoff hopes on the line? Play him anyway, and watch him look like an idiot.

Earlier in the season when the offense did not score in the red zone, it was poor execution and lack of making big plays. Today? Oh, the 49ers "did a fine job" of keeping us out of the end zone.

I have been a Broncos fan forever, and it's time to realize that Shanahan is an egomanic that cannot accept blame.

Now, what do we have? An aging defense, an aging offensive line, and a defensive cooridinator looking over his shoulders.

    Shhhhrrrreeehhhaawwwwwwwwww!!!!!

Anonymous #189, What are you reading to think that the Chiefs have had a bigger impact in the Super Bowl than the Broncos? You know not all NFL information comes from the Kansas City Chiefs media guide. I do have to say I'm sorry though, I mean having a better record than the Broncos in the 90's and beating them in the 60's and 70's is amazing, and at least you have those ancient memories to hang on to.

By the way, with all that success in the 90's how many SuperBowls did the Chiefs win. In fact how many playoff games did they win. And while you're researching how many superbowls did the Broncos win during the Chiefs dynasty run in the 90's? Try 2. I know you Chiefs fans are all excited about your 6 seed in the playoffs.

I guess when you don't get there very often, squeaking in is like winning the Super Bowl. Don't party too hard tonight.

Here's to the amazing success of the Chiefs in recent playoff history.

No wonder Chiefs fans love their team so much, what else is there to do in KC. It has to be one of the ugliest, most boring cities in America.

#206 couldn't have said it any better! When was the last time you were in the Super Bowl, KC Fans????

And, in response to all of the comments about our unusual snowstorm, I've been to your terribly humid city during the sweltering summer with 100% humidity and the frigid winter. Who cares about football - all of us need to thank God that we live in beautiful Denver and not in Kansas City!
  • sr3tz · 2 years ago
Good Grief - What a disappointment. The offense just flat out stopped themselves; dropped balls, fumbles, penalties. I believe the offense had six penalties, 5 of them for false start! Talk about drive killers. To me it says the players weren't focused for whatever reason. Give credit to the 49er's - they came to play.

I'd like to see G. Foster & T. Bell go. Hopefully through FA & the draft we can do something with OL & DL & pick up a good back! I'm pretty tired of this running back by committee stuff. Yeah, our backs have combined yardage of over 1500 yds a season, but when was the last time our running back scared other teams.

I'm glad Jay is in and I think he'll do well. Jake just really didn't work out for us; even though he had a great year last year, he still had me nervous all of the time. This year he just didn't have it; so I wish him well and hope he finds a better situation for himself.

Also a comment to the few of you who blasted Lynch on the end around play at the end of the game. I believe he was doing his job, i.e., forcing the play back inside. Karl Paymah was the player out of position - he bit on the fake and was out of position to make the play.

Pretty disappointing night, but I'll be back next year to cheer the Broncs on (yeah just like KC, 49er & SD fans as you do for your teams).

I'm embarrassed, too, guys but to be fair, the Broncos had a few key injuries that weren't even mentioned in the tv cast today - Nick Ferguson isn't Champ but his absence caused a ripple affect on the defense, as did Matt Lepsis' injury on offense. Still, despite that and the fact that the niners played well, no excuse for not winning this game.
I agree they need a more dominant back and then they'll be more balanced. Mike B had a lot of nice moments this year and Tatum is erratic, but they need a top flight back. And a blue chipper on the DL. (I also still think they miss Kubiak on offense.) So face it, even if they made the playoffs this wouldn't have been their year anyway. It's a disappointment but it's probably not worth getting homicidal about. Here's to a more consistent next season. (Or a move to the NFC. ;-) )

Hey Bronco fans, get over it! You say the Chiefs backed into the playoffs. That's fine. If I remember correctly, Pittsburgh won it all last year and began the playoffs as a Number 6 seed. Four things needed to happen today for the Chiefs to get in. The biggest thing was that they (Chiefs) had to win and hope for the other three to happen. The ONLY thing the Broncos needed was to win and they DID NOT GET IT DONE. Now, go shovel some more snow and we'll let this bitter AFC West rivalry resume next fall!!! GO CHIEFS!!!

Just a reminder to everyone of the list of players that were not on the field in the second half of this game due to injuries:

Starters--Lepsis, Sapp, Wilson, Brown, Ferguson, Meadows, Darrent Williams

    Backup Starters--Cox

Backups--Keith Burns, Wesley Duke (remember him?)

There are more, but when you see how starter-focused our injuries were this year, the end result is really no surprise.

for sure it's a big big disappointment!! not be able to win against a 6-9 team at home with the playoffs at stake is a complete failure; but as we saw the team play all this year, it's not much of a surprise; even when we were 7-2, i thought that the victories were not so convincing (remember we hardly beat the raiders!!)..and we got exposed when we played some good teams like the chargers... i guess a lot of things has to be addressed; it might be an interesting off-season; but right now for sure i am very disappointed...as for all chiefs fans up here, of course you're happy right now (and deservedly so)..but don't forget that in one week you'll be out!

I question not running the ball with 4 minutes left in overtime when all you need is a tie to go to the playoffs, instead you pass and give the 49ers too much time to come down the field. Shanahan should have run and killed the clock and took the tie !

The Better team, on this day won.

    The 49ers 2007 season started on 12-31-2006.

The 49ers are 40 million under the cap and 11 draft choices in the upcoming draft. The Niners will be dangerious in 2007.

When you think about it, except for the San Diego in San Diego game and the Rams game, the Broncos were in every games this season. A very tough schedule, they could have beaten San Diego, Indy and KC in KC if the defense had not run out of steam in the second half. Injuries made us realize how important some players really were.

I agree that defensive play calling seemed inept once we got ahead. Has the prevent defense ever been a good strategy?
  • Greg · 2 years ago
To all you KC fans... save your yapping for when you win something.

You did back in and that's fine. Things broke right and 2 overtime games went your way. Its the most wins over a 16 game schedule with a few tie breakers in there.

After you upset Indy at Indy, go to San Diego and win... and then go to Baltimore or New England and win again.... then come on this site and run your mouths.

You beat us out by a tie breaker.... good for you. We stunk the second half of this season. If we'd have won, we would have lost next week. This turned into a transition year with rookies and 2nd year players all over the lineup.

If I was you, I'd start the party now... I doubt it will last long.

    The chiefs never:
    -win on the road
    -win in the playoffs
    -win superbowls

here is what you won by getting into the playoffs:
    -worse draftpick for next year
    -tougher schedule next year
-Get to watch MAnning hang 50 pts on your team.

Something for you KC losers to think about before you paint your Mobile home bright red this week.(most of you already have)

This was an OT loss! How the hell can you be calling for Shanahan's head!!? Without him Denver might be have been 6-10 this year! He's the best coach in the league and Cutler played with amazing poise for a rookie. Denver is unquestionably a playoff team next year and for many years to come.

Although I am very upset we didn't make the play-offs, and I am super po'd about how Shanny cut Plummer's throat...I am SUPER glad I will not have to watch this team get pasted by the Colts again in the play-offs.....

Face it people, NO WAY we were going to beat the Colts, and that's a fact....

WANTED: Offensive Coordinator. Must have offensive line, and the ability to instill a three step drop passing plays for blitzing defenses. Ask for Mike.

What a way to end a pitiful season! I will have to say that before the season started I really didn’t expect much more from the Broncos than what they gave us. They were just too many uncertainties heading into the season. A lot of hopes were raised by the play of the defense when the season started. Personally, not scoring against the defense early on was due to luck and timely plays…it wasn’t because the defense was putting together a solid performance. Look at the stats…they were still giving up a ton of yards in those games! Simply fact is that the defense just isn’t that good. The sad irony to that is that Shanahan has made it a personal goal to improve the defense because of what the Colts have done to them in the playoffs. With the addition of Bailey, Lynch and other defensive changes, there wasn’t that much…it any…improvement in their defensive passing. Bailey, Lynch and a few other quality players on defense need a better supporting case before their talents can be realized…starting with the defensive line!!!
I see a lot of comments about Shanahan and how its time for him to move on. We all know he’s a good coach because that thought has been drilled into our head for years now by the media. My question is this…in the 6-7 years since the Super Bowl glory years, why hasn’t this “mastermind put together a solid Super Bowl contenting team? Is it the lack of consistent quality draft picks? What about bad personal moves via FA? Maybe it’s letting good quality players go when he shouldn’t have. Maybe it’s the play calling. How many times did they run on 3rd and long and fall short? They’re not fooling anybody with those calls and have no business running them like they do without the personal to successfully execute them. It looks like this season ends right where it started…with a lot of uncertainties. In my personal opinion there are just too many holes and weaknesses that can’t be fixed in one off season.

My deepest condolences to the Broncos and their fans on the loss of Derritt Williams. I encourage all other teams' fans to show a higher level of class than that shown to us, and not post on this board in the name of a dead man.

Correction... Darrent. I choose to be respectful to those who have lost their life. Something you all could learn from.
  • Les · 2 years ago
I have seen the Bronco's loose before, but not like this. I sold beer in Mile High Stadium to see Broadway Joe take the Broncos apart and still felt good about the lose. How can a team be on the one yard line and not punch it in, on the two yard line and not get in. The Denver Broncos are a disappointment. Jay Culter looked like he was in another world when he came off the field. Putting his hat on backwards and looking not sure of himself--no fire in his eyes. Someone help the kid? Please.

Very, very bad news about Darrent Williams. Tough day for the Denver Broncos organization and fans. As big as the rivalry is with the Chiefs, this is one Chiefs fan that was very sorry to hear of the news of Williams. He was an outstanding corner. The human side of the game always is above the emotional side. Chiefs Nation experienced the same thing with the untimely death of Derrick Thomas. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
  • VRay88 · 2 years ago
What do you KC fans have to look forward to after getting pasted in the playoffs? You have a highly overrated coach, suspect wide receivers, an old offensive line, and an old secondary. Let's face it, you are going to be mediocre for years. Enjoy backing into the playoffs.
Bronco fans who call for Shanahan to be fired are very ignorant. We are in the playoffs practically every year, and have won two Super Bowls in that time period. Very few coaches have that kind of resume. With Shanahan we know we have a shot every year. Most teams can't say that. Coyer needs to go though. He either plays a soft zone, or blitzes every one. How about blitzing one or two players from time to time, not everyone? Or mixing your zones up a little. He makes absolutely zero game adjustments. A good defensive coordinator, and some added pass rushers, and we'll be back in the Super Bowl.

I can't believe anyone will want to talk about the game yesterday after this Darrent Williams tragedy. I am just sick to my stomach. Hope people will sort of think twice again before being too critical of any player's play when the criticism gets mean-spirited. They're human beings, and we take their existence for granted. Williams was such a good young player, I really thought with he, and Champ, and Foxworth, they'd be set at corner for years. Never mind that, my heart goes out to his family and the Broncos.
  • chris · 2 years ago
the disapointing game yesterday and the failure to make the playoffs and the full on choke that occured do not mean anything anymore. one of the starting players on the broncos is dead. this is a tragedy that overshadows anything else. RIP #27

Sorry all you lucky Broncos fans, I'm not here anymore. Even though the refs make every call for you in every critical situation imaginable, I'm still not there. GET IT! I hope you keep your little rat face coach and stop thinking your so great now that you don't have me anymore. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! John Elway's christmas pas in KC. Wait till you see what Larry Johnson does to Indy's pathetic run D! Go Chiefs! Yes we belong here, we are finally geting a little just deserts after listening to you pathetic, lucky, we had the best quarterback in history crap. Have a nice off season. John Elway was probably the 2nd greatest quarterback in history. If he wasn't you wouldn't even be on the NFL map. You'd be down there with about every losing team in history. Keep Shanahan! Keep Rod Smith till he's 50! Keep'e, all I say. It would be so much fum for all of us in KC. Up your you snotty smog eaters!

Where is the class??A 24 year old man with two young children have died!!The outcome of any GAME, and it is just a game, is irrelevant. Being a broncos fan for 20 years, the loss to the 49ers was severely disappointing, but the loss of D-Will is crushing and will never be forgotten. RIP #27. Go Broncos.

Ohh we beat you, ohh you backed in ohhh watch LJ run......what is wrong with you? I can tell you have never played at any level and have severe shrinkage and are obviously not in tune with what is real!

The Broncos season to me was a new begining. Why everybody is bitchin about the way the season ended there not looking at the postives of the season. 1st thing the Broncos played a lot of young talent this year in the playoff push and it didn't wilt under pressure it got better. Jay Cutler is that dude, finally a QB we can depend on. Brandon Marshall And Big Tony #88 showed their talents, and I have no doubts there will be even better next season. LT Eric Pears did a solid job replacing Matt Lepis this season and to me is ready to take George Foster place on the right side, who have been a disappointment. There is two things the Broncos need to address this off season. 1. Find a domiant pass rusher, 2. tighting up the secondary. Now the second one more than ever, beacause of the cowards who killed a very talented corner in Darrent Williams. Darrent you made mad and you made me glad, but I truly appreciate your talent and the way you played the game. You will always be Bronco and you will always have a place in my heart. REST IN PEACE
  • True Bronco Fan · 2 years ago
First of all Jake made more completetions to the other team and that's why he is riding the pine. Second of all the special teams need some serious imrovments. When you average getting the ball beteen the 5 and 10 yard line it is very difficult to get things started. When the other team is getting the ball on the 40 yoour defense can't stop everything. As for Cutler he took a licking and got intercepted for a touch down. He still kept his posie and drove the ball 80 yards for the tieing touch down with 2 min left in the game.
You all freaking make me sick. You all are a bunch of band wagon jumpers. If we would have pulled the game off you all would be saying the Broncos are the greatest thing since slice bread.
I much rather start Cutler in the middle of this season. Then the beginning of next season he now has experance. Mike knows what he is doing we have several draft picks and believe me he will get his featured back. The name of the game is not just to win one superbowl but to dominate and when a few. We are almost there. We are lacking in Special Teams and the Running Game. The defense has done alot they kept teams from score touchdowns in the red zone and left them with field goals.
As for you luck Chief Fans I am looking forward in you joining us after next week. I rather not make the play offs the to be embarassed in the play offs.
Before you can talk any Sh%%$ remeber we represented the AFC West more than you. Enjoy this year because you wont next year.

I have been a fan for over 20 years. Every bad thing that has happen to the Broncos over the years does not shadow this. I was not a big fan of his play but he was still in blue and orange and still part of the Broncos family. I have read all the comments about the game with the 49ers and how the Chefs are going to do something in the playoffs. On a normal day I think as a fan we could take all the ribbing, but for those of you who are not Broncos fans..lets bag it ok. We lost a member of our team. Both 49ers fans and Cheifs fans know what its like to loose a player. I would think that the fans of those teams would not like us beating up their teams after their losses, so show some respect and stop the crap. Good game 49ers and good luck Chiefs, now leave us to be and morn our losses. Go Broncos go #27. All the Bronconation is with you and RIP. Blue and Orange forever D. Williams!

Ya know, im not really shocked at all about all these Chiefs fans coming in here talking trash right after Darrent died! It only proves that they are the most vile, classless, insignificant, worthless, unrespectful & heartless fans in the NFL! May you all ROT FOR ALL ETERNITY!!! Carma catches up to everyone, and it will be catching up with you this weekend.......1 AND DONE, just like every year you guys crawl into the playoffs. You guys have about as much of a chance of wining a playoff game as the Detriot Lions! So go CHOKE on that this weekend when you lose!!!!!!!!!!

we need a lot of things we need a 3rd wr we desperatly need a nice defensive end we need a thogh and a fast rb we need a seafty we need a good o line we need a new defensiv cordinator ( whith balls) and we need tod s. back. but we DONT NEED a smart coach to tell us that we dont need a lot of things to be back to back champions again we dont need blown draft picks we dont need to have specteitions on a team than more than a team is a bunch of good and rich friens we dont need any cleveland brown we dont need to let go t pryce to a grate defence we dont need to be more worried about the color of the pants we r going to use than we r about ur game plan.
WE DONT WANT to wach the paly offs on tv BUT MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL WE DONT NEED AND WE DONT WANT THE SAME FORE THE NEXT SEASON. SO MR BOWLEN DO SOMETHING BECAUSE U DONT NEED AND U DONT WANT EAMPTY SEATS.

The Denver Broncos will be just fine. I'm sure you all saw the same things i did even when they lost it was close and the other times they (figured it was in the bag)maybe because they were at home.Well i bet you 10 to 1 that will not be the issue next year. Those close games will be ours and when there up they'll stay up. right in front and on top.Cutler has now had a chance to see the nfl and will also be very much improved for it.i loved John Elway and still do. any one in Fort Worth, Teaxs i know and i know a lot will tell you i'm a big big Bronco fan and died just a little when he retired. i saw a lot of things in cutler that tell me he's not going to have to wait as long as John did. we'll start in Arizona this year and not look back for some time. in fact if you bet on every game for Denver the next ten ( 10 ) year you may also be able to retire right along with me in Bronco heaven..
PS- get that bad to the bone running back and o-line and d-line sured up with good rotation so they stay fresh and we got it the SUPER BOWL and not just one but many in the next ten years.just like those 49ers had a long time ago.remember dallas cowboys lines when they were winning..

Jimmy are you saying football is more important than life itself? I can get over the loss of a football game....#27 was a person whom I wont forget unless AL steps in. I never met Darrent personally but when I read that he was killed my heart broke. They say time heals all wounds. Getting over a lost football game is much easier than getting over a lost life.
Maybe it might take longer for you since the Chiefs havent made it to the SuperBowl in 40 years. Good Luck next season.
