All Things Broncos: Elway preaches patience

  • Paul H · 3 years ago
Bronco Nation, Stay true stay loyal. This is what makes us the best fans in the NFL. God Bless to the Lamar family.
  • Mark H · 3 years ago
It is ridiculous the fans' expectations of Cutler. He's +2. That's awesome for a rook after two games. I can't wait to see him once he gets "it".
  • broncomania · 3 years ago
Jake is the only way to the Super Bowl. Elway rode the Bronco's to the Super Bowl, he never lead the Bronco's to the Superbowl. Bronco Nation Time is running out put jake back in or we will suffer the fate of the Cardinals for the next 10 years. You can look forward to 2-12 seasons....
  • ripsix · 3 years ago
I think broncomania must be a bit young and never really saw Elway carry the team on his back for three Super Bowls. Look back in history and then (as now) the defense keeps letting us down. Jake is the only way to a SB if our defense was the defense of 1977 (and it's not). I think Cutler will be fine, that kid sling a ball and he's not afraid too (unlike Jake... well, maybe Jake does sling it...but then what happens?) I figure if we can find a defense and an above average running back we'll be seeing more Super Bowls around here for years to come with this kid under center.
  • Bugs · 3 years ago
broncomania, what a maroon! Elway rode the Broncos?!? So that's why he's the only Bronco in Canton. To paraphrase Mark Twain, it's better to remain silent and let people think you're an idiot than to make asinine posts and leave no doubt.
  • Darrin (Loyal Bronco Fan in Io · 3 years ago
Isn't it ridiculous how there are those out there that just post comments to see what kind of a rise they can get out of true fans!?! #3 I'm sure that you are some whiney little parasite that doesn't even really follow Bronco Football. Get a life and write you fiction elsewhere! 2 and 12 seasons for 10 years to come??? Yes Cutler has lost a couple of games and thrown a couple of interceptions, but the season is a lot more than 2 games long last time I looked. Give him the courtesy of having a rookie season in the NFL and time to develope. His numbers aren't that bad when you concider the time frame of his start and the added preasure of play off hopes. Then you throw a couple of jerks into the mix that call themselve fans and there is bound to be some un-warranted extra preasure to deal with. Grow up and support the team like a true fan would, and should!
  • Bryan-D · 3 years ago
    Let remember first games people...

    Matt - 6 of 9 / 54 Yds / 0 TD / 1 INT / RAT =43.1

    Young - 3 of 4 / 27 Yds / 0 TD / 1 INT / RAT = 53.1

    Cutler - 10 - 21 / 123 Yds / 2 TD / 2 INT / RAT = 62.3

I think I'll go with Elway on this one. Man alive, some of you Bronco fans have some serious issues. The kid is good. In fact, he blows away the numbers in the same comparison of their second games in the NFL. What do you guys want. I liked Plummer just as much as the next guy; and I believe he was in a hairy situation this year, but Jay is putting up numbers that at least match some Jake's numbers this year, and a 10 yr vet shouldn’t have the same numbers as a guy in his second game ever. There is no way anyone can argue with that, so don’t try. How about this, the move has been made by someone that gets paid to do it, and we couldn't possible be in those shoes or we’d be there trust me, so let's all be good fans and show the rookie some support before we do to him what we did to Plummer. If you ask me, and no one ever does, we the fans put Plummer in this situation with all of our crap. If we the fans do this to Cutler, we don't have another QB to tear apart. The problems are problems as a team, not the QB's only. Enjoy!

broncomania...does Jake have tickets...cause that's the only way he is going to the superbowl
  • Barry · 3 years ago
As a die hard Bronco fan in NC, I have to disagree with broncomania. Elway may have rode a Bronco team to the Super Bowl, but by no means is Jake Plummer in Elway's class!!! Never has been & never will be!!! Elway knew how to perform under pressure & take care of the ball. Plummer has not learned how to do that in 10 yrs. of pro ball!!! The young kid(Cutler) is the franchise's future & needs to get the exp. to lead this club. Plummer could play indefinitely & never take this team or any other to the Super Bowl due to his inept play under pressure!!!
  • Russell · 3 years ago
Hey broncomania. Raider Nation called and they want their idiot back.
  • Flabio · 3 years ago
What do you mean Elway never led the Bronco's to the Super Bowl? How did they get there in the 80's, on the shoulders of Melvin Bratton? Give Cutler some time and he will be a great QB in this league, where Plummer has been good at best.
  • Toney Hill · 3 years ago
Broncomania - no football fan in the country can talk about the Denver Broncos without mentioning Elway. He put us on the map. Your lack of memory and loyalty is surprising. He didn't ride coat tails to make it to five superbowls. The last two were just complete teams - with defense, special teams and yes, a running game. I recall a great play he made diving for a first down "leading" the team to the win over the Packers.

Jake's time was up because he knuckled under the pressure of having a rookie looking over his shoulder (figuratively). It was obvious to Jake (and the whole team) that Cutler has a stronger and more accurate passing arm. QB's are not rated for their handoffs in this league. Jake has been a far cry short of last year's performance. He has been ranked almost last in the league in QB ratings all year. Doesn't this team deserve better?

Our current team has too many shortcomings to overcome to expect a championship this year. Why not let Cutler "cut his teeth" and get over the jitters this season, so he can be ready out the gate next season? Cutler has played well considering he's faced two tough Division champions in his first outings. It's not like he lost games to Detroit or Oakland.

Afterall, we're short a couple of great receivers, defensive linemen and a CB away for a complete team. Anything is possible in the NFL but you need to face it, this is not a superbowl quality team -Yet!
  • D LATT · 3 years ago
Good to hear that some people in Denver actually support the Broncs bearing in mind the comments of recent weeks! Cutler is going to be an incredible player - he's got the strongest arm in football and he's deceptively mobile. We are going to destroy the Cardinals on Sunday and make the playoffs.
  • rick · 3 years ago
broncomania, did you post that just to piss people off? i hope so,because if you really belive that, you are a football fan that needs to stop watching football. you need to watch soccer or something else... a post like that just proves how many idiots there are in the world. Elway took the broncos to superbowls that they had no buisness being in. he made reeves look good. to bad shanny wasnt the head coach in 83! theres no telling how many sb wins denver would have. and how many passing records Elway would have.
  • stl_bronco · 3 years ago
2-12 seasons? I didn't realize that the Broncos were going to start playing in a league where they only play 14 games per year.

As for Cutler, the kid looks pretty good to me. Strong arm, fairly mobile and he looks like he's building a good playing relationship with some of other young players.

Give him time, he'll be a very QB with the potential to be great.

    But Elway already said that...

I think Cutler is the future, but I can't blame Jake for the second half of the season. Denver's defense shouldn't have read all their press clippings earlier in the year. They are terrible.
  • James · 3 years ago
Yeah, "broncomania" must be like 10 or something- didn't really ever see Elway play.

Only a complete ignorant would say "Elway rode the Bronco’s to the Super Bowl, he never lead the Bronco’s to the Superbowl.'

That's about the funniest, most ignorant thing I've ever heard.

Broncomania, you really missed your calling. You should have been a comedian. Or one of those kiddie party clowns. Maybe Britney Spears' fashion consultant. Better yet, a member of the Bush cabinet. ...Cause dude, your hillarious!

Elway rode the Broncos to the SB the same way Jordan rode Bill Cartwright to the NBA finals. Keep em coming Broncomania, we all need a good laugh now and again.

I have been a bronco fan since 1975. Jay Cutler is the second coming of John Elway. With all due respect, I believe when Jake saw Jay throw that first pass in camp or wherever it was side be side, he knew right then and there, his days as the starting quarterback for the bronc's were done. Question was, when? I could see it from the first regular season game, on. Jake was not the same, he was nervous, jittery. Now, all of the broncos woes are not to be thrown on Jake's shoulders alone. We do need some help on defense, especially rushing the passer, but when i saw Cutler play, then again last week, well, it is confirmed. I also agree with Elway, Jay has the arm, the size, the intellegence, enough mobility, and i'll add a toughness we will come to see, but the most important ingredient i like is his calm tranquil demeanor. He is a stud! I want to savor every moment as it unveils leading up to the day when he leads the Broncos to the SuperBowl. Watching him is....well....fascinating. Haven't seen a power gun like that in town since....well....you get the picture. I swear sometimes when i see Jay back there he looks like a slightly bigger Elway. The throwing motion reminds me of the King too. Man, I love it. I will part with this thought. I look forward to the day when all of you naysayers watch Jay Cutler with the Lombardi trophy in hand, and think back to these times as you say how great you all thought he was from the git go! What makes you think that Jake could lead us to the Super Bowl this year maniac??? Even in his best year (last year), he choked at home, in the AFC championship game. Cutler has already shown that he deserves to be the starter.

Personally, I'm excited with the mixture of young-raw talent and seasoned veteran leadership that our team has. We need a lot of work on special teams, Larry Coyer needs to be more agressive with his play calling, and Darrent Williams needs to play sound defense.

Just an optimistic Bronco fan in hawaii...Aloha!
  • Zak · 3 years ago
    I love the Broncos.

I’m excited about Cutler and think Shannahan made the right decision. Our tight-end threat has been absent since Sharpe retired, and looking at Gates and Gonzales, we can see how a good tight end can help the running game and receivers. It’s not a coincidence LJ and LT have such success - who the heck do you cover? Every decision is wrong! During our Super Bowl years, there was no answer to the Broncos offense, as somebody was always open, or if they were somehow covered, nobody was there to stop TD. Without a dominant tight end and a QB who knows what to do with one, our offinsive has looked less dominant the past few years.

The future is bright for the Broncos. When Cutler gets comfortable, our offense will stay on the field longer, and the defense will be under less strain. His rocket arm will cause teams to back off of the line of scrimmage, opening up the run.

I don’t feel we can overpower the teams in the playoffs this year, especially on the road. Let San Diego have a Super Bowl, and next year, they’ll go the way of Puttsburgh, Seattle, the Raiders, and the other teams who spent it all to get there and had nothing left the next year. Sure, San Diego will still be good, but the hunger won’t be as strong. If San Diego falls short of the Super Bowl again, they’ll come back just as tough next year, and we don’t want that.

Just as long as Baltimore and New England don’t go to the Super Bowl…

We’ll have a good team for a long time. I’m more excited about the future of the team than I’ve been for years.

Denver is a Quarterback town, and I had a hard time getting behind a QB that scared the heck out of me every time he touched the ball. Many of our victories I feel came DESPITE Plummer, not because of Plummer. I never screamed at my tv so much with Elway or Griese at QB. Will Cutler make mistakes? Of course. But I don’t think he has weird panic/desperation mode that Plummer had that forced him into ill-advised ‘heroics’ that usually tended to back-fire more than they succeeded.

i have been a bronco fan since 1975. i am finally excited again about broncos. i had lost some enthusiasm ever since Elway retired, but this kid Cutler, wow! let me tell you something, Jake knew his days were numbered when he practiced with Jay for the first time. He was probably thinking, " i can't do that," a half a dozen times. i could tell in the first regular season game that Jake was all shook up. It was easy to see from Jake's past history, for me anyway, how he was playing was scared! the broncos have more issues than quarterback this year, but Shanahan correctly surmised after giving Jake plenty of time to shake his mental blues, that it just wasn't going to happen. Which meant that he was not a guy you could count on to lead this team into and WIN the superbowl. realizing this, he was right to go with Cutler who gave the team a chance to WIN the superbowl. if not, hey start the next era. Cutler is the real deal as Elway hinted. i can tell you there was a time or two when i looked at my tv, it looked just like a little bigger Elway back there, as i smiled, watching a laser go into Javon's hands. i'm looking forward to the day when Jay is holding the Lombardi trophy high, and envisioning all the naysayers who tell those in close proximity, "yeah i remember when i first saw Jay Cutler, he was the real deal."

broncomania must not really know what he is talking about. All the teams in the 80's were in the Superbowl because of Elway. If you don't know what you're talking about I suggest keeping your mouth closed and cheer for the Broncos.

    Go Broncos!!!
    Go Cutler!!!

    @Broncomania,

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! LMFAO!!!! You are a retard. Elway was the only player on our offense for years. He ran for touchdowns, he threw for touchdowns, hell he even caught a touchdown... He would be known to pooch punt if needed. He had no O-line so-so receivers and average backs... He had to run for his flippin life every play. Get a clue please.

While we're busy talking about how poorly Plummer played and how everyone expects Culter to fix things, it is probably worthwhile to note that: 1) Lepsis has been injured all year, so is it that much of a surprise that Plummer posted worse numbers this year? When a team is missing one of the best tackles in football, it is both hard to run or pass. Therefore, quarterbacks are in more third down situations and under more pressure - and therefore more likely to throw interceptions. 2) In the first part of the season the team could get by with 13 points because the defense played well. Now that there have been many injuries (i.e., Foxworth playing safety instead of corner because N.F. & Brandon are injured) on defense, they aren't playing as well and the offense can play decently well and the Broncos will still lose - like last week.

It is very difficult to win any games in the NFL, and it looks like enough Broncos have been injured this year that the team as a whole is going to struggle no matter who is playing quarterback. Just as Cutler's third quarter in San Deigo looked good, Plummer looked good and threw the ball well at times in the earlier part of the season. While the Broncos Coaches are some of the best, and I'm sure they know what they are doing replacing Plummer with Cutler, I wouldn't expect miracles and Superbowls out of either of them until the team is healthy and the Broncos can run the ball effectively again.

As has been discussed, John Elway was a great quarterback. Many would argue he is the best that has ever played, or at least one of them. Nevertheless, it took a great running back, a great offensive line, a hall of fame quality tight end, two good recievers, a great kicker, and an aggressive defense to win the superbowl. Many fans claim that Plummer played poorly in last year's AFC championship game. He did not win it by himself, that is certain. Nevertheless, compare the first few running plays from that game to, say, any game in the Broncos two years of superbowl victories - what is often lost is that the Broncos did not run the ball well in that game either. It's a team game.

So Elway is right - give Cutler some time to settle in. It takes a couple years of trying to put a team together to get a squad that has a chance to win the Superbowl.

Good luck to the Broncos this week! I hope the boys put it together and win one...

Jake Plummer has been unfairly treated by an overrated megalomaniac head coach, a sensationalist amateurish Denver media, and a passionate but spectacularly ignorant fan base. Utterly shameful.

Jake will light it up quarterbacking another NFL team in the years to come, accruing statistics, victories, and Super Bowl championships.

    Cheers!

    Two comments:

To SC in #29. I was and am a Jake Plummer supporter. However, he played like a condemned man this season. When the pressure was on he couldn't deliver. We wouldn't be seeing Jay Cutler on the field if Jake had been able to handle the pressure of having a #1 draft choice sitting behind him. I'm afriad Jake folded like a cheap suit. I expected and hoped for more from Jake but he didn't deliver. If the Broncos are going to flounder around, lose games, miss the playoffs, or at best make an early first round exit from the playoffs we might as well see the future-in-training with Cutler. Quite frankly, I haven't seen the level of play by the offense be that much different with the rookie at the helm. He sure looks like he's going to be a great one.

Second comment, speaking of great ones. "Broncomania" is certainly not the shiniest spoon in the drawer or he's about 8 years old. John Elway played in 5 Super Bowls...3 more than the caliber of the rest of the team merited (broncomania, that means deserved). While the Bronco defense in those days was probably adequate, the offenses were truly mediocre. The only real player was Elway. Unfortunately, John couldn't carry them to a victory until he had another 52 players to go along with him. I have every game Elway played on video tape if broncomania would like to review the career of a Hall of Famer. Then tell me how he "rode" the Broncos to wins in two Super Bowls. Elway did things on a football field that I never seen before or since. The biggest obstacle to even more success on Elway's part was Dan Reeves. Reeves was so determined (read: hard-headed) to establish a weak running game that the Broncos would have to mount 4th-quarter comebacks every week. If Reeves had been a better evaluator of talent and could coach a wide-open passing game Denver might have won a couple of those old Super Bowls. If Joe Montana and John Elway had switched teams, the 49ers might not have ever lost a game, let alone a Super Bowl. I seriously doubt that even the great Montana could have carried those Bronco teams to Super Bowls and his bust would be absent in Canton.

So, broncomania, get a clue about what you're talking about before you open your pie hole, because you are certainly displaying your ignorance for the world to see. Three Super Bowl appearances with only one guy on offense should tell you something about that guy!!

Broncos will be fine. With Cutler having these next few games to hone his skills, it is looking very promising. He came in at such a hectic time, he has a lot of patience from where I am sitting. Leinhart and Young had a whole season behind them, Cutler has had a few games and still looks better than they have. I say back off, the kid is amazing. I have not lost faith in my broncos. Im stuck in hell New Orleans but watch the Broncos every Sunday. Im looking forward to this Cutler Era.

#29 I support Plummer too and to see him go is painfull to stomach; the reasons you pointed out for plummers benching are right on. As far as Shanny being overrated, that is not true, the problem that people fail to see is that this system that they run relies on two things TIMING AND A GOOD RUNNING ATTACK. if you look at our two superbowl victories, you will see that in those games we relied on the rushing attack to control the tempo of the game. Elway did not have to do it with his arms anymore. in fact during the first superbowl run, against the Chiefs, he put up the fewest passing attempts of his career. Plummer did not fold, he is just playing within the system that Shanny has put in place. Look at his games in Arizona and you'll see that he was constantly making plays downfield due to a differnt kind of system. as far as shanny not trusting him, that's not true. if the defense does not take our running game seriously then our slant patterns will always be well covered.
  • Janus3 · 3 years ago
Hey #20 Jay the second comming of Elway?? not by a long shot buddy. Elways arm was much more polished and he scrambled alot better. (i am comparing their collage careers) comming out of college John could have been playing Baseball if he wanted thats how much better of an athlete he was, that said however, i think Cutler has potential to be great. It's his ability to get out of trouble that i'm worried about
  • Janus3 · 3 years ago
#31 the thought of Elway on those great 49ers teams can only make me think of what he could have accomplised "BAD THINGS MAN"
  • Mike in VA · 3 years ago
The 'Kid' will be a great QB (I'll trust Elway's judgement) and he's showing improvement every week, but cut Jake some slack (all he did was win 75% of his games), and he did drive the team to a tie near the end of the Indy game (the defense let us down), and he can't be blamed for San Diego in Denver (again a defensive let down).

As Broncos fans we are spoiled. I live in Redskins country and they would kill to have a QB who won 50% of his games, let alone 75%.

However, Shanahan made the correct decision because he was going to make the switch next year anyway and knew the defense is too banged up to go anywhere in the playoffs (although there is still a good chance the Broncos will make the playoffs - check the remaining schedules of the 5 wild card contenders - below), so he decided to get the 'Kid' some experience now.

Comment for #31. I am a Bronco fan from the bay area. I spent time watching Joe Montana throw 6 yard passes to John Taylor and watching him run for an additional 50 yards and watching 49er defenses that consistently finished in the top 5 year after year. I feel I can safely say this. If Joe Montana had played for Denver in 80's the broncos never would have lost a Super Bowl...because you have to get there to lose.Believe me anyone who thinks the 3 amigo's were going to turn 6 yard passes into big plays is..well..I'll be kind. Brocomania is just young. Lets give the youngster a break. As for the Jake vs Jay situation it's real simple.Denver has 3 games left against 3 teams that Jake Plummer would probably beat. If Denver wins those games with Cutler then Shanny gets the genius hat back. If they lose...then he blew it(unless they lose like 35 to 30 because the Defense is playing like they are allergic to contact). Let's all just wait and see.
  • Bugs · 3 years ago
Echoing Actual Football Player, I've posted elsewhere that Lepsis going down at Cleveland was huge. It really was the first domino; losing a top-notch LEFT tackle is a real blow. Not only does it put more pressure on the QB because of diminished protection to his blind side, it cuts down on options having to keep a tight end in to help with blocking. That in turn, makes it easier for defenses to crowd the line and take away the run, and if the run doesn't get going, play action doesn't work....

When you figure that failing to move the chains put the Broncos D on the field an extra 10 or so snaps per game, that had to have some effect, along with the crappy field their position "special" teams were giving up, that's not a recipie for long-term defensive success. Heck, some of the defensive injuries might have been avoided if the offense could have converted a few thrid downs and kept them off the field a little more.

everybody seems to measure the success of the broncos by wether they make the playoffs. I don't want them to just make the playoffs. I want them to challenge for the superbowl. In my mind as much as I have like plummer, he was not going to take them deep in the playoffs. Cutler has that chance, maybe not this year, but eventually i think he could develop into that kind of quarterback. The broncos weren't going to win the superbowl this year with plummer, so let's get the learning curve going with the rookie. The sooner he gets some experience the better. let's just hope the rest of the team shows up to help him to some wins. You can't put all of the blame for the last two losses on the quarterback.
  • Tom Williams · 3 years ago
In the spirit of John Elway, let's apply the patience theory to the defense. I am sure they will stop blowing leads, making critical mistakes, not showing up for a big game stop. If that continues to happen, it won't matter who your QB is. And while we are at it, let's have patience with the special teams, and Darrent Williams...he,he,he....what a bunch of hypocrites.

I am a Plummer fan, and also a Cutler fan. I think what Shanahan did was crazy this year. BUt I want Cutler to succeed and hs is obviously good. But.... Can he win? He couldn't at Vanderbilt and Jake won plenty at ASU and even took the CARDINALS to the playoffs. Let's hope CUtler has the winning skills to go along with the mechanics. I would like him to run a bit more too, move around but that is the playcalling. It will be a good game this weekend and if the Broncos don't win.. Well we might be seeing how much Cutler can actually win. THROW IT DEEP TO JW at least 5-6 times!!

You made a statement that you know that if the broncos had made the playoffs with Jake they would not have gone deep in the playoffs and he could never win the super bowl..

That statement is just ridiculous stated like fact rather than opinion i hope you understand the difference.

Jake took them to the NFC championship game last year that is pretty deep

Manning cannot get his team to the super bowl..

Football is not all about the quarterback Jake is a winner
Will see if Jay will be..0-2 right now

I agree that the last game was not all Jays fault..

But the seattle loss is the result of cutler looking like a guy in his first game

I have nothing against cutler..he will be a fine quarterback

The issue was who should have started against seattle and for the remainder of the year that was jake..

    Bad decision by shanny

Even if they make playoffs shanny does not evaluate talent well and his play calling is questionable
  • Chris · 3 years ago
Cutler fanatics i can just see tommorrows posts after cutler posts big numbers against a pathetic Arizona team defense

I live in arizona and i have season tickets seen all games.

If cutler cannot look like elway in this game then something is wrong..

There is more to quarterbacking than just having a rocket arm..

Also, winning the super bowl is about the team not the quarterback Baltimore ravens Trent Dilfer..1 super bowl win

Miami Dolphins Dan Marino 0 super bowl wins

Mister statistic himself Manning ) superbowls

Simms Two superbowl wins all about there defense and running game dare you to name one of there receivers.

When Bronco Nation finally comes to the realization that there is only going to be one (1) John Elway, perhaps we can come to realize that a good QB is only one cog in the wheel. I would love to think that Cutler is the next great thing, but come on...time will tell. I still think that Shanahan rushed the kid. If he is the future, why push him in front of the train now. Jake was fine, Shanahan gave in to media and fan pressure. This is not a good thing. Put your best players in and let them do their thing. Being a puss and wanting acceptance from the media is a death nail. They know sh@# about football only attempting to create controversy. Let's hope Cutler can get it done over the next 3 games and we make the playoffs. We still have that.

And by the way, broncomania that was the dumbest post I ever saw.

i have sat here and read each and every comment on this page, and i am amazed at how ignorant each person who has left a comment is. You dont switch Qb's this late in the season, you dont do it. Plummer is not the best QB in the NFL but the broncs had a better shot at the bowl with jake at the helm, not a rookie from vanderbilt. I have watched plummer since he was QB at Arizona State. I watched him his senior year take a mediocre ASU team to the National Championship, where he did lose but he didnt choke. It was a very close game. I watched him start for the cardinals (probably the worst team in NFL history) and take them to the playoffs, something that had never happened since the cardinals moved to arizona. Jake does get jumpy but hes a better qb right now, than cutler. Cutler will come into his own, but not this year, so why bench plummer? Cutler might be the future, but they should have waited till next season to start him. Plummer is the type of QB that can totally surprise you, when you think hes down he can come back, look at his record, college and pro. He didnt choke last year he had a bad game, it happens. look at elway when he played the redskins for the bowl in 88, it was 42-10. or the 49 ers in 90 it was 55-10. He was one of the best but he had bad games too. Oh and to Zak you never screamed at your t.v when griese was QB, were you watching the same games I was when he was taking the snaps.

After reading all these posts I am surprised that no one has made the connection between Elway's day and now. If Elway could not win a SB without a supporting cast then why would anyone think Jake or Jay can. We may still make the playoffs but what would be the point. Winning the SB is the only objective, not getting deep into the playoffs or even just making the playoffs. It was clear, after the Indy game, that the Broncos regardless of who was QB are not good enough to win the SB. So if Jay is indeed the future than he should be starting, once the SB, not the playoffs, is out of the question. It is now a rebuilding time and discovering what other backups can truly become better starters than who is now. To become a SB winning team we need to get a dominate D lineman and a top notch TE. Shanahan also needs to realize that having people who can barely field a punt or kick off is not the way to go either.

Broncomania is just plain ignorant. He is probably a Chiefs fan.

Get over Elway. He is retired, has been for several years. Will the Denver media ever get over this man? This is 2006, write a story about the present not the past. We ALL know what John Elway did.

It has been hard to come to the relization that this team does not have the talent we salivated over in the offseason. Honestly if Jake plummer had played the Seattle game we win it easily,I think every one knows that. However I honestly belive Mike realized that we can't put pressure on the opposing quaterback, nor can we cover a top tier reciever opposite of Champ. Larry Coyer is easily the worst defensive coordinator in the NFl. A 13 year old girl could call a loose zone scheeme EVERY play in a row. Even commentators can easily explain how anyone can esily pick apart our swiss cheese zone D. Just once I pray for a bump and run or a man to man call(whats a blitz?). Jay cutttler will be great. Mike just wanted Jay too know what playoff style footbal is all about, you can only learn it through experiencing it. Lets pray we make it to the play offs so Jay can get some playoff experinece. Heres to hoping for a real pass rush, a good running back, another great corner and a new defensive coordinator next year. GO BRONCOS!!!!!

Hellz yeah, I yelled at the TV plenty when Griese was Den QB..But for you to act like you are a better evaluator of talent, than the man who drafted Terrell Davis and company..made Greise and Plummer Pro Bowl qb's and has won like 70 something percent of his games .all time..I will take the opinion of an insider, someone who is AT practice, see's all the stuff that goes on behind the scenes, and most of all..the guy who puts his azz on the line for making the decsion. Two SB rings don't lie..plz try and show some respect..face it ..Shanny knows more than you about football...
