That's not a silver spoon it is the silver of the knife that Shanahan stuck in Jake's back. We can move on and make some good off-season moves (like the Dre' Bly trade)but I wouldn't expect any help from Jake. And if he is trying to screw us better to do it this way than to have Denver terminate his rights and have him sign with Oakland or Kansas City. All the fans can talk all the crap about him they want, but i sure would'nt want to play against him.It's good to see jake not show class because he was starting to show Shanahan up in that department.
Perhaps he should change his name to "Ashley".
What's this do to the salary cap hit we were going to take, anyone know?

Hey, it's his prerogative to quit. But if you believe he's quitting because he won't compete or because he wants to twist the knife in Shanahan's back and you find that admirable, you deserve each other.
What has he done in his career that lifts him above mere mortals? Why shouldn't he compete?
If he doesn't want to keep playing, if he'd rather chill in the mountains, more power to him.
You mouth-breathers who think he has somehow been wronged by the Broncos need to get a grip.

Look at it this way, in three
full years of starting QB (won't count this year, did not start year round), Jake only helped the Broncos muster one great season. Without Champ Baily who knows what the Pat playoff game would have been anyways. So two out of three years Jake and the Broncos went 10-6, only one game better than the average that Greise and the Broncos went in each season.
Also, look at it this way, Jake is a mediocre QB, nothing more and nothing less. Can you imagine what the Broncos could, AND WILL do with a good and consistent QB (i.e. Cutler)
Lets not put the crown on Jake, and weep that he is not here. Jake did really nothing that important for this franchise. Yes, he may have helped the Broncos get to the AFC championship, but he surly did not single handily lead the Broncos there.
Get over yourselves and find reality because losing Jake WILL not blow up this franchise!!!
Most loser QB who come on a winning team don't have to do much to win.
The Broncos were not a pit-hole franchise before Jake. All Jake did was come to a WINNING team and WON. That does not take much effort. Any idiot or lowlife can go to a winning team and win. What takes real ball (which the FAKE does not have) is going to a losing franchise and suddenly win, and win a lot, Jake did not do that!
If Jake is so good, don't you think it is a little weird how the Cardinals are no better or no worse without Jake, NO!!!
Quit referencing this loser to winning, because the TEAM wins. Half or more of the Broncos wins in the last four years came from the defense and making sure Jake did not screw up. He was and still is a int magnet, and kills his own teams playoff win chances.
One last thing. Did "all" of his wins amount to anything. How many playoff games did he win. Make a ratio of games won to games won in the playoffs... piss freakin' poor!!!!
Jake had some good games and good years here in Denver, but the wins that accumulated here were not because of Jake!

Plummer was niether capable of producing under duress or making plays when the game plan broke down. I'm not going to be hatefull and say something like Jake Plummer just strait up stinks, but he will never be a championship NFL quality Q.B.. He knows he's incapable of making chicken suop out of chicken _____. He's figured out that he doesn't have the guts or the skills required to make Tampa a good team. He rather quit than make five million dollars and it be proven he's a player that's not capable of making a team better instead of just conjecture.
I don't feel sorry for Jake. In this world when someone offers you 5 million dollars to play a game and your stupid pride gets in the way it's shamefull.
How many people out there in Bronco land wouldn't work any job for 5 million dollars a year. Shame on Jake for feeling sorry for himself in the face of all those who have so little in comparison.

Has everyone forgotten that Jake has about as much respect for the Broncos as he does the fans or anyone else for that matter. He has bailed on a woman at the wedding alter, flipped offfans, used his car as a weapon, looked like a homeless bum and when it counted most, quit on his team when they needed him to play at his best.
Some of you may like the bum, I don't and won't miss him. He's too much in that same TO kind of model where it's all about him and the rest of the world can take a leap. Not a team kind of a guy. Maybe he should put on the bum look again and go play Grizzely Adams up in the woods. No one can see his faults there and point them out to him.
Oh Yeah, all of your Raider fans in disguise get out of this blog. You either have to be dumb or blind not to see the difference in talent between Cutler and Plummer. Cutler makes throws and plays that Jake just never could or never will be able to. Why do you think every coach out in the NFL keeps giving Cutler praise and Denver praise for getting this kid. All the great QB think he will be a good. Cutler will be much better for this team than Plummer was. It may take 1-2 years for him to explode, but just wait.....

Also, the idiot that said, "who does he think he is turning down 5million". Think about that statement for a second. It says a lot about a person's value to walk away from that kind of money if that means he can find peace. Money is what is bring sports down in these times and it's actually nice to see some that can part with it if that meant happiness. GO BRONCOS!!!
#2. Jake Plummer was benched because he could not handle the pressure. Plain and simple. He was like a double edged sword. He could scramble around and get out of a tight jam only to throw the ball to a wide open DB. When he wasn't throwing picks he was over-throwing and under- throwing his own receivers! How many times did a wide open receiver have to come back for an underthrown ball? Lots! That's why the Cutler era began. Jay Cutler has the better physical tools and Shanahan thinks he has the better brain to match. I think he is right. Plummer took about 10 years off of my life with his erratic play. Jake was a good QB. He was. He was just not good enough when it counted and that is why he is looking into retirement.
That's classic, trade in the guy who overachieves to make up for lack of size for a guy who has always underachieved because he's too fat.
To Bob, you are a more on. I'm from the south, and didn't get to see Jake play much, but even I know Jake was a team guy. Carve the boy up as you like, but don't be talking out your backside. Darn near the only thing Jake had going for him was that his teamates respected him.
I've watched Jake for over 12 years, including his days in college and also with the Cardinals. No surprises here, he's always been exactly what everyone in Denver has now found out, a hot/cold moderately talented player with oft bad instincts on (and off) the field. He was a product of a good offensive scheme when the talent was there. As this year showed, Denver was limited in talent on offense and Jake collapsed under pressure, as he always has.
Great players can successfully lead a team, even without a lot of help (aka Elway). Plummer was a very average QB and a product of good offensive schemes. Jake's gone now and we have what appears to be a highly talented QB in Cutler. Sit back, watch the kid, and quit whinning about a player that never won the big one. If you want to reflect back on a talented career cut short, think back to Mobley and Terrell Davis, not some screwball that let everyone down.
Boy was I wrong... Instead of putting his tail between his legs (Jake the Fake) Drew Brees stepped up to the challenge and had two great years, which made Rivers ride the bench and learn.
Now, when I witnessed the Cutler pick, I remembered back to the Rivers and Brees thing, and expected Plummer to step up and have another great season. Nope.... Plummer tucked his tail between his legs and gave up. Call it a lack of confidence or what ever, the man gave up to the Kid.
I will be the first to admit the Shanny should have stuck with Plummer the rest of the season. But, based on his play he did not deserve to play. Who knows if Plummer could have lead the Broncos to the playoffs, what is done is done. It was Manning year anyways, let the kid get some experience and get ready for next year.

There's nothing wrong with Jake we haven't seen other QB's do countless times, including John Elway. Does anybody remember seeing him throw a wet ball...
Denver has been losing because of a lack of overall depth, failure to protect the QB, and the lack of a consistent running game. Their starters were on a par with other good teams in the league, but people got hurt, and their replacements didn't step up. Seems like Indy won the SB easily...but they had their hands full with a healthy Denver squad and Jake at the helm. didn't they?
#41-Elway was the greatest QB to ever play the game...no one will ever compare to him, end of story? Jeesh! Glad you're not a brain surgeon, or pilot!
I'm an Elway fan but I also know there wouldn't have been a Championship without a guy named Terrell Davis...or Sharpe, or McCafferey, or Zimmerman, or Smith, or Schlereth, or Atwater, or ...need I go on?
I doubt John Elway shares your sentiments that he is, and will be- the best ever.

he is not the greatest QB either. You are right about Cutler watching his back...bet some of these great- white- hope jokers will be some of the ones shouting the loudest to bury the knife if he doesn't succeed.

0-14, dang you are dumb. You know there is 16 games in a NFL season don't you. So I guess the Broncos look forward to a 1-15, 2-14 start next year? Yeah give me a break. I'll bet you the Broncos finish with 10+ wins and a scary team.
I can't take criticism from a guy/girl that does not know jack sh*! about football. The Broncos got rid of Plummer for mainly two reasons.
1.) Shanny and the rest of the team either knew that the Broncos behind Plummer would not get to the playoffs, or get to the playoffs and do nothing.
2.) Shanny and the rest of the team wanted to break out the new, young, talented gun and see what he could do. Remember Cutler may have played "poor" but for a rookie he did play remarkably well. 8TD's and 5ints is not bad.
Plus, we all knew that Plummer was not coming back next season. Unless some miracle happened and Jake got over his and the rest of the teams poor play and did something in the playoffs. How sure are you people that Jake would have gotten the Broncos to the playoffs. The guy still had a chance to prove himself to the Broncos and Shanny he could still start, but instead he went into KC and laid a big fat egg, no fight in him. Call it lack of confidence from Shanny, but Jake still could have proved many people wrong... but he retired...
Jay may be another Jake, but lets face it last year is the best Jake had to offer, and last year did not amount to anything.
Tom, and the other fans that disagree with me must learn to move on, and quite holding on to a lost season. Shanny one of the best coaches out there. Call is dumb, but he hurt himself and the rest of this town by winning a SB to early. Now everybody is spoiled and what Shanny and the rest of the teams head when the Broncos don't win the SB or get into the playoffs. Lets face it, the Broncos will be around for many, many years, there has never been a team that wins the SB every year, and/or makes the playoffs every year. The Broncos and Shanny believe that Cutler is the answer and will lead the Broncos to the promise land, and right now with all of Shanny experience and achievements I will take his word for it.
Nice... in case you didn't know, the NFL moved to a 16 game schedule some years ago... unless you know something I don't, your calculation should be 0-16... but that would be fairly hard to do... going winless is *almost* as impossible as going undefeated.
and for the record, it was management that benched Plummer, not the fans... so blame them if you must, but nobody can see all ends, not even Shanahan. I doubt Cutler will be a bust.
