I think jake is trying to stick it to the broncos for benching him last year. I am a jake fan he has been nothing but class in Denver except for his driving. I think Tampa Bay was a perfect spot for him to finish his career. he could help chris simms become viable QB and also play for another Year but I don't think he wants to benefit the broncos and wants us to cut him so he can unretire and choose where he wants to go. I hope I am wrong but jake looks like a snake on this one

Looking for more attention. I think that Tampa is a good deal. There is a solid running game, receivers, and tight end. Thet have a decent defense and give hima chance to win with a Super Bowl coach. If Jake thinks that he is so good, why is he balking at the chance to prove that he is a starter. This type of behavior reminds me of another player who thought that they should start and is now a free agent with no interest. Interesting. Only true champions rise to the occasion of a challenge. I wasn't Jake's biggest fan and didn't think he could lead us to the Superbowl, like Brian Griese before him they made some great plays and got the W's but we just couldn't count on them in the big games. Despite that, Plummer has a great record with us, and I for won thank him for leading the Bronco's with class and wish him well.

To number 4 That's not a silver spoon it is the silver of the knife that Shanahan stuck in Jake's back. We can move on and make some good off-season moves (like the Dre' Bly trade)but I wouldn't expect any help from Jake. And if he is trying to screw us better to do it this way than to have Denver terminate his rights and have him sign with Oakland or Kansas City. All the fans can talk all the crap about him they want, but i sure would'nt want to play against him.It's good to see jake not show class because he was starting to show Shanahan up in that department.

Please...Come on Jake, I have always been a great supporter of yours but the NFL is changing and you need to prove yourself every week...The rest of us common folk have to prove ourselves on a daily basis, and for considerably less $$$...You knew you were not going to be a Bronco and you and your agent should have been actively participating with where you might have been happy to go and COMPETE for a starting job...Besides, you are also a great mentor / leader and teacher and could be a very valuable resource for a young QB...Whatever you decide I wish you well but do us all a favor and make a decision.

Dear "little guy" The National Football League is a business this is not about stabbing people in the back, friends, or class. This is a team making a personel move away from a guy that had to many nerves to get it done in a big game. I wish Jake the best he should do what he wants but lets face it what does the organization owe him? He never won a championship, he flipped off our fans, he constantly made poor choices throwing into coverage, and now he is gone. Can all the protectors of Jake just get over it? He was an average professional quarterback that succedded in a system "somewhat" for one year, it's not like we just got rid of Trent Dilfer after we won the superbowl.

I cannot tell you how much I respect Plummer. I remember him stating somewhere after the season was over that he wasn't going to be a "journeyman QB" and would retired before starting over at another team. Good for you Jake. Say what you want about the guy but he WON games for us and didn't deserve ALL the blame for everything that went wrong in any game. He was never accepted by most Bronc fans. I loved the "hat flip bird" a couple years ago. He's one of us. I frankly am sad to see his time with us end this way. He won games for us, better than griese ever did and was always in the shadow of Elway. Let the guy go about his way. I hope if he decides to stay in Colorado that he is accepted. Also, I am sorry but a 4th round pick for him was insulting. Matt Shaub out of Atlanta is expected to fetch a 1st round and a 3rd round pick-HE'S A BACK-UP!!. Yes, he could be a starter in a team but he hasn't played a full season to be tested. Anyway, with that good luck to you Jake. Ah, yes. Jake is a "rebel soul." Hell no, "Jake won't go." He's got pride and won't compete with a young hotshot? It's good to see Jake not show class? I can see why you guys are such Jake fans: F-L-A-K-E. Hey, it's his prerogative to quit. But if you believe he's quitting because he won't compete or because he wants to twist the knife in Shanahan's back and you find that admirable, you deserve each other. What has he done in his career that lifts him above mere mortals? Why shouldn't he compete? If he doesn't want to keep playing, if he'd rather chill in the mountains, more power to him. Bottom line is for those who hate Jake or like Jake... me being one who liked Jake... he was one of the winningest QB's in this past DECADE. Look at his records... yeah yeah... he couldn't win the Big Games... to many INT's... and Not like John Elway... but if all us Bronco Fans can come down to reality... there is only one John Elway... our recivers with all due respect weren't the fastest, or best... (that was not a stab... I LOVE ROD SMITH) ... and come on he beat the all mighty TOM BRADY over and over and over again. who has done this. NO ONE has a better track record against this decades top BIG GAME winner than Jake PLUMMER. hey he lost in the play offs, but once again... how many people out there can beat PEYTON MANNING. All of you Jake fans make it sound like he resurrected football in Denver. The Broncos were a relatively good football team before Jake, and will be a better team without Jake. Listen, I loved watching the guy snake his way out of sure sacks.
But aren't we worshiping something that never happened.
Look at it this way, in three full years of starting QB (won't count this year, did not start year round), Jake only helped the Broncos muster one great season. Without Champ Baily who knows what the Pat playoff game would have been anyways. So two out of three years Jake and the Broncos went 10-6, only one game better than the average that Greise and the Broncos went in each season.
Also, look at it this way, Jake is a mediocre QB, nothing more and nothing less. Can you imagine what the Broncos could, AND WILL do with a good and consistent QB (i.e. Cutler)
Lets not put the crown on Jake, and weep that he is not here. Jake did really nothing that important for this franchise. Yes, he may have helped the Broncos get to the AFC championship, but he surly did not single handily lead the Broncos there.
Get over yourselves and find reality because losing Jake WILL not blow up this franchise!!!

Now, once "Mr.Win" became a Bronco he started to win. Not because of himself, because he was apart of a WINNING team.
Most loser QB who come on a winning team don't have to do much to win.
The Broncos were not a pit-hole franchise before Jake. All Jake did was come to a WINNING team and WON. That does not take much effort. Any idiot or lowlife can go to a winning team and win. What takes real ball (which the FAKE does not have) is going to a losing franchise and suddenly win, and win a lot, Jake did not do that!

Quit referencing this loser to winning, because the TEAM wins. Half or more of the Broncos wins in the last four years came from the defense and making sure Jake did not screw up. He was and still is a int magnet, and kills his own teams playoff win chances.

Jake certainly did not win games fo us. If anything he lost them for us from his stupid, and forcing mistakes. He maybe had 2-4 game winning drives, when in only 5 starts Cutler had 1 almost 2 against Seattle. Lets not forget Cutler had the Broncos in the San Diego game there for a little while.
Jake had some good games and good years here in Denver, but the wins that accumulated here were not because of Jake!

It will be interesting next season to see what Cutler does. Everyone is so sure he will lead to the promise land but what if its a bumpy road and the car breaks down. The sooner Jake the fake leaves the better. He's a never has been and a never will be. Unfortunately, there are a large group of clueless fans that don't know squat about football, but like Jakey because he's a nice boy or cuase he's a cute. If you know what makes a team a championship team, then you know the Fake isn't taking you there.
Plummer was niether capable of producing under duress or making plays when the game plan broke down. I'm not going to be hatefull and say something like Jake Plummer just strait up stinks, but he will never be a championship NFL quality Q.B.. He knows he's incapable of making chicken suop out of chicken _____. He's figured out that he doesn't have the guts or the skills required to make Tampa a good team. He rather quit than make five million dollars and it be proven he's a player that's not capable of making a team better instead of just conjecture.
I don't feel sorry for Jake. In this world when someone offers you 5 million dollars to play a game and your stupid pride gets in the way it's shamefull.

I can respect the fact that Jake wants to retire IF he actually wants to hang it up. NOT if he wants to be a baby and only play if he's guaranteed to start. He hasn't done enough to be guaranteed a start. Who does he think he is? Joe Montana? Even Joe had to leave town so he wasn't the backup to Steve Young. It's the NFL man. Leaking to the media prior to Thanksgiving that your QB is benched if he does not perform well in a stadium where Denver rarely performs well. Hmmmm. Shanny, the man who demands respect and loyalty, had his position coach call him and tell him he was benched...Hmmm...That's class, real top-not, first-rate class! Oh, and the Hillbilly Boy, couple of costly pics in the Seattle game and San Francisco game cost us "our best chance at winning!" And how did Jake handle this? Kept his mouth shut, supported the kid and his teammates, and played good team player. Now that it's the offseason, he is no long wanted, and the fans get irritated because he has the audacity to show up Shanny?! Get reall. Mike has not won since Elway, Davis, McCaffrey, etc.

Give Plummer a break. The guy has played 10 years, and he doesn't need football anymore. If the circumstances are right, he'll take it- if not, he can walk away a multi-millionaire at 32, still healthy. He has other interests in life, and stays true to himself. I liked Jake and I think it was stupid that the broncos changed QBs, for examples jake had all of the hard teams and he lost to Jay did not he had niners and cards and he still lost the game against the niners with a 16 point lead but no he does stupid palys by not taking sack and throwing it up and it gets pick off. Plus in the last game of the season the broncos had the lead when plummer was in the game and they put Jay back in and he lost the lead and blow the broncos playoff run. Cutler won't do good and the broncos made a big mistake. Manning took forever to get past the Patriots but he did it and I think Jake could have done it to if he had a few more years. But i also think that Cutler missed him up this season and I only like the broncos because of Jake and now I hate the broncose and I also hope Jay does bad and he never get to the playoffs. Good luck Jake I hope you go to the cards and retire or at least the texans to take david job.

I guess the General Manager of the Bucs, Bruce Allen, is so dumb that he is willing to pay Plummer 5.3 Million to be the back-up QB in exchange for a very low draft pick. Does this professional NFL manager know something more than all of you Plummer haters don't? Just a comment on the comment stating that "Jake's confidence is shot". Ghee, do you think? The guy had an outstanding 2005 year, he HELPED take the Broncs to the AFC Championship game. How does he get repaid, they draft a QB high in the 1st. Don't get me wrong, I love Cutler and think he will do well, but put yourself in his shoes and tell me if you confidence wouldn't be shot. Take it easy on the guy and let him go his way. He could have taken the whole benching thing and complained about it but he didn't and comment after comment from his teammates said all he wanted to do was help his team win. If that meant putting the kid to win he was happy with it. Also, the idiot that said, "who does he think he is turning down 5million". Think about that statement for a second. It says a lot about a person's value to walk away from that kind of money if that means he can find peace. #1. John Elway was the greatest QB to ever play the game. No one will ever compare to him. End of that story.
#2. Jake Plummer was benched because he could not handle the pressure. Plain and simple. He was like a double edged sword. He could scramble around and get out of a tight jam only to throw the ball to a wide open DB. When he wasn't throwing picks he was over-throwing and under- throwing his own receivers! How many times did a wide open receiver have to come back for an underthrown ball? Lots! That's why the Cutler era began. Jay Cutler has the better physical tools and Shanahan thinks he has the better brain to match. I think he is right. Plummer took about 10 years off of my life with his erratic play. Jake was a good QB. He was. He was just not good enough when it counted and that is why he is looking into retirement.

You know why Cutler is so damn good? He grew up in the sticks, and all the hick boys did was throw rocks. Now he's getting paid millions, and you can tell the rock throwing has helped, ol' hoss can really fire that ol' pig skin can't he? Wait till Shanny starts spreading that field and letting the cannon do his thing. I may not be to smart, but I do know a lot of db's are going to be scared of ol' Jay. He's as strong as an ox, and can throw a football through a tire and a barn wall.
To Bob, you are a more on. I'm from the south, and didn't get to see Jake play much, but even I know Jake was a team guy. Carve the boy up as you like, but don't be talking out your backside. Darn near the only thing Jake had going for him was that his teamates respected him.

Hey Rocky Top, you're spelling is a dead giveaway to your education. People from the south probably don't want you bragging about your origin, as it reflects badly on the rest of them.
I've watched Jake for over 12 years, including his days in college and also with the Cardinals. No surprises here, he's always been exactly what everyone in Denver has now found out, a hot/cold moderately talented player with oft bad instincts on (and off) the field. He was a product of a good offensive scheme when the talent was there. As this year showed, Denver was limited in talent on offense and Jake collapsed under pressure, as he always has.
Great players can successfully lead a team, even without a lot of help (aka Elway). Plummer was a very average QB and a product of good offensive schemes. Jake's gone now and we have what appears to be a highly talented QB in Cutler. Sit back, watch the kid, and quit whinning about a player that never won the big one. If you want to reflect back on a talented career cut short, think back to Mobley and Terrell Davis, not some screwball that let everyone down.

I remember I was one of the eager fans to see that the Chargers just drafted Phillip Rivers. I was so excited because I knew that Brees was on his way out and the Chargers would pick high in the draft again....
Boy was I wrong... Instead of putting his tail between his legs (Jake the Fake) Drew Brees stepped up to the challenge and had two great years, which made Rivers ride the bench and learn.
Now, when I witnessed the Cutler pick, I remembered back to the Rivers and Brees thing, and expected Plummer to step up and have another great season. Nope.... Plummer tucked his tail between his legs and gave up. Call it a lack of confidence or what ever, the man gave up to the Kid.
I will be the first to admit the Shanny should have stuck with Plummer the rest of the season. But, based on his play he did not deserve to play. Who knows if Plummer could have lead the Broncos to the playoffs, what is done is done. It was Manning year anyways, let the kid get some experience and get ready for next year.

Man, you broncos fans are something! Jake ot you pretty far and you drop him for this "peachfuzz" Jay Culter!! The Broncos are going to be 0-14 next season. Jake is not the biggest or brightest QB, but he's human and one of us average guys doing something great. Last season you guys were WINNING!!! And you drop him because lack of stats? not enough TD's..Record breaking..yards...etc. Some fans have some Gambling..sorry I mean Fantasy addiction problems.

I can't take criticism from a guy/girl that does not know jack sh*! about football. The Broncos got rid of Plummer for mainly two reasons. 1.) Shanny and the rest of the team either knew that the Broncos behind Plummer would not get to the playoffs, or get to the playoffs and do nothing. 2.) Shanny and the rest of the team wanted to break out the new, young, talented gun and see what he could do. Remember Cutler may have played "poor" but for a rookie he did play remarkably well. 8TD's and 5ints is not bad.
Plus, we all knew that Plummer was not coming back next season. Unless some miracle happened and Jake got over his and the rest of the teams poor play and did something in the playoffs. How sure are you people that Jake would have gotten the Broncos to the playoffs. The guy still had a chance to prove himself to the Broncos and Shanny he could still start, but instead he went into KC and laid a big fat egg, no fight in him. Call it lack of confidence from Shanny, but Jake still could have proved many people wrong... but he retired...
Jay may be another Jake, but lets face it last year is the best Jake had to offer, and last year did not amount to anything.

Tom Williams all I will say is if a guy plays like a rookie, why not throw the rookie and future of this team in there and get him some experience. Don't hang on something that was never there, the Broncos did not have enough talent, mainly depth, to get past teams and to the Superbowl. One week Jake was great, the next he was horrible. A up and down QB is not a good QB. Consistency (and talent) is what wins Championships, Jake and the Broncos did not have consistency. Time to move on,and rebuild and learn from the mistakes of the year(s) past.

Call is dumb, but he hurt himself and the rest of this town by winning a SB to early. Now everybody is spoiled and what Shanny and the rest of the teams head when the Broncos don't win the SB or get into the playoffs. Nice... in case you didn't know, the NFL moved to a 16 game schedule some years ago... unless you know something I don't, your calculation should be 0-16... but that would be fairly hard to do... going winless is *almost* as impossible as going undefeated.
and for the record, it was management that benched Plummer, not the fans... so blame them if you must, but nobody can see all ends, not even Shanahan. I doubt Cutler will be a bust.

Move on? So aptly put TP. Kind of like the Broncos fans since Elway has retired. Every QB since then has been rolled under the bus, and cast aside by the head coach as roadkill. I agree, moving on is the right thing to do. But ripping someone over and over and over the whole time is not the way to do it. And, by the way, the pic thrown against San Fran by Jake? Was it me, or was Walker stumbling like a new-born colt on ice, and falling to the ground leaving the DB all to his own?! Look, I don't want to pick a fight, and I am not trying to. But when the dust settles TP, Jake Plummer will have more character, conviction, and principle than Shanahan has ever had, and will. That's really my whole point. Shanny demands respect and loyalty, but he shows none in the end. Yet, there was Jake taking it on the chin, and blaming no-one week in and out while being insulted in every way,shape, and form.

That's not a silver spoon it is the silver of the knife that Shanahan stuck in Jake's back. We can move on and make some good off-season moves (like the Dre' Bly trade)but I wouldn't expect any help from Jake. And if he is trying to screw us better to do it this way than to have Denver terminate his rights and have him sign with Oakland or Kansas City. Look at it this way, in three
full years of starting QB (won't count this year, did not start year round), Jake only helped the Broncos muster one great season. Without Champ Baily who knows what the Pat playoff game would have been anyways. So two out of three years Jake and the Broncos went 10-6, only one game better than the average that Greise and the Broncos went in each season.
Also, look at it this way, Jake is a mediocre QB, nothing more and nothing less. Can you imagine what the Broncos could, AND WILL do with a good and consistent QB (i.e. Cutler)
Lets not put the crown on Jake, and weep that he is not here. Jake did really nothing that important for this franchise. Yes, he may have helped the Broncos get to the AFC championship, but he surly did not single handily lead the Broncos there.

Plummer was niether capable of producing under duress or making plays when the game plan broke down. Has everyone forgotten that Jake has about as much respect for the Broncos as he does the fans or anyone else for that matter. He has bailed on a woman at the wedding alter, flipped offfans, used his car as a weapon, looked like a homeless bum and when it counted most, quit on his team when they needed him to play at his best.
Some of you may like the bum, I don't and won't miss him. He's too much in that same TO kind of model where it's all about him and the rest of the world can take a leap. Not a team kind of a guy. #2. Jake Plummer was benched because he could not handle the pressure. Plain and simple. He was like a double edged sword. He could scramble around and get out of a tight jam only to throw the ball to a wide open DB. When he wasn't throwing picks he was over-throwing and under- throwing his own receivers! How many times did a wide open receiver have to come back for an underthrown ball? Lots! That's why the Cutler era began. Jay Cutler has the better physical tools and Shanahan thinks he has the better brain to match. I think he is right. Plummer took about 10 years off of my life with his erratic play. Jake was a good QB. He was. He was just not good enough when it counted and that is why he is looking into retirement.
That's classic, trade in the guy who overachieves to make up for lack of size for a guy who has always underachieved because he's too fat.
To Bob, you are a more on. I'm from the south, and didn't get to see Jake play much, but even I know Jake was a team guy. Carve the boy up as you like, but don't be talking out your backside. Darn near the only thing Jake had going for him was that his teamates respected him.
I've watched Jake for over 12 years, including his days in college and also with the Cardinals. No surprises here, he's always been exactly what everyone in Denver has now found out, a hot/cold moderately talented player with oft bad instincts on (and off) the field. He was a product of a good offensive scheme when the talent was there. As this year showed, Denver was limited in talent on offense and Jake collapsed under pressure, as he always has.
Great players can successfully lead a team, even without a lot of help (aka Elway). Plummer was a very average QB and a product of good offensive schemes. Jake's gone now and we have what appears to be a highly talented QB in Cutler. Sit back, watch the kid, and quit whinning about a player that never won the big one. If you want to reflect back on a talented career cut short, think back to Mobley and Terrell Davis, not some screwball that let everyone down.
Boy was I wrong... Instead of putting his tail between his legs (Jake the Fake) Drew Brees stepped up to the challenge and had two great years, which made Rivers ride the bench and learn.
Now, when I witnessed the Cutler pick, I remembered back to the Rivers and Brees thing, and expected Plummer to step up and have another great season. Nope.... Plummer tucked his tail between his legs and gave up. Call it a lack of confidence or what ever, the man gave up to the Kid.
I will be the first to admit the Shanny should have stuck with Plummer the rest of the season. But, based on his play he did not deserve to play. Who knows if Plummer could have lead the Broncos to the playoffs, what is done is done. It was Manning year anyways, let the kid get some experience and get ready for next year.
