It's amazing to me that Shanny will replace a running back on a whim and is willing to replace the right tackle who has Jake's back, but, unwilling to look at the QB position. We've all seen enough haven't we???? And to those that are holding on to 'We're 7-2', let me remind you we are where we should be. After games against San Diego, short week on the road against KC, Seattle and at SD, we'll see if our record supports keeping Jake at the helm. For me, I've seen enough. Make the move NOW!!!
  • justin · 3 years ago
southtxbroncofan how about we put you in as QB ??????? There's no quit in Jake "Yea he had three int"; and we still won. but lets just see what happen next week?
  • Alex · 3 years ago
Not many people are talking about it, but how much of a mistake was it for the Broncos to release Todd Saurbrun. Ernster is absolutely killing us. When punting from the midfield area an NFL punter MUST be able to put the ball inside the 20. The great ones like Shane Lechler (probably Oakland's best player) consistently put it inside the 10. Ernster? Shank after shank letting the Oakland defense off the hook by not pinning them deep. The 2006 version of the Broncos is a team that needs good field position to be effective, and Ernster is losing the field position game.
  • Billy Reed · 3 years ago
Jake isn't the QB who's gonna lead us to the Super Bowl, We all know that. But if we put Jay C in now when we are 7-2 then were gonna lose the rest of the team, mostly the veterans who still trusts in Jake to take them to the Super Bowl. Loyal Broncos fans we haven't forgot about 1999 haven't we. When we rush another young future Elway and he turned out to be a bum!! That's right Broncos fans, Brain Griese. Let's be patient let Jay C learn and we will win Super Bowl 42. Besides with Jake we still got a chance if we don't have to play Peyton Manning..
  • Darrell · 3 years ago
A win is a win, what are people moaning about? Jake is a great quaterback, lets get behind the team and stop whinning about 'ugly wins'
  • SouthTXBroncoFan · 3 years ago
Justin: I'm ready. Put me in coach!!

Here's what I'll bring to the table:

A)I will not throw into double or triple coverage.
B)I will not throw the ball 3-5 yards when we need 10 yards for the first.
    C) I won't throw the ball 30-40 yards on 3rd and 3.
D)I will look to my TE's every week.
E)I will audible out of a blitz.
    F) I will look off my main receiver.
G)I'll get the ball to Javon 5+ times a game.
    H) OK, I'll get a haircut and shave!!!
  • Jeremy Perkins · 3 years ago
come on already all Jake does is win look at the records. There will never be another Elway get over it a true realist denver fan
  • Douglas · 3 years ago
Please stop. If you think playing QB is that easy then you have never played in football. Jake is best guy for the job. He has done nothing but win. My big problem was benching Mike Bell for Nash. That guy almost cost us the game. Why put him in that situation when we have sapp that is much better at goal line running. Terrible call. To me that is probably the worst decision Mike has done since he has been here.
  • SouthTXBroncoFan · 3 years ago
You're an idiot...And that's why Shanny is coaching..not you. If we throw cutler in now he'll absolutely get eatin up in the games to come. If you knew anything about football you wouldn't be wanting to throw cutler to the dogs. A move like that would only produce cons and set this team backwards. The locker room would be completely split and cutler would have no support from the veterans taking away all the chemistry the Offense has struggled to gain by adding so many new players this season. Cutler must earn it. Be patient
  • J · 3 years ago
Now I'm the idiot..that last one was suppose to be sent to SouthTXBroncoFan
  • SouthTXBroncoFan · 3 years ago
J: let's not make this personal!!!

I just have a hard time believing our locker room is this 'sensitive' and committed to Jake. I mean this is a business and guys are making millions of dollars and share the same goal - winning a championship. How much of a shake up or affect has there been in light of the changes at the RB position? I truly beleive that if Mike comes out and says he believes that Jay gives us our best chance to take it to the next level (which will be his speech come the end of the season, if not before), the guys will have his back!!! Heck, how divided are the Cowboys in light of Parcells replacing Bledsoe with Romo? None whatsoever! So, which veterans would you predict that would take issue with the move?
  • J · 3 years ago
Yeah you're right...my bad I was out of hand with that comment...but rod smith, Al Wilson, and Champ Bailey were all quoted as saying that Jake was their guy and that they supported him. Rod smith actualy did call all the fans that were wanting J Cutler morons though. Its on video on the denverbroncos.com website. Also in response to your last comment, Drew Bledsoe doesn't have the history that Plummer has with the broncos. Beleive it or not, Plummer puts all his effort into each game and does his best. The Cutler dynasty will soon be upon us so give Plummer some love for his last season with us...
  • Ramon · 3 years ago
I haven't been able to find anything about Mike Bell. Why didn't he play? Did he get suspended, is he still on the team? He just has a great game against Indy 2 weeks ago and a poor one last week in Pittsburg. Was that enough to demote him. What is going on. Please let me know.
  • Jon · 3 years ago
If Foster got benched for bad play how long will Meadows last? I couldn't help but noticed he was the cause of a few false starts on Sunday that forced Denver into some 3 and outs, that didn't seem to be a problem with Foster. It's week 10 for crying out loud why is Shanny still treating this team like it is preseason with all the roster moves? I think the team needs to be focused on winning the Super Bowl and not whether or not they will have their job next week.
  • Billy Keketsian · 3 years ago
In Pro sports, players don't care if the guy lining up next to them is their father, brother or son. If they think that player is costing them games, the grumbling becomes louder and louder until there's a change.

You people think that a bunch of Tom Bradys and Peyton Mannings are all just waiting to be claimed off waivers, but Plummer's the quarterback only because he and Shanahan go clubbing after the game.

The funny thing is, if he didn't come from the one of the worse losing cultures in pro sports, the Arizona Cardinals, or if he had a different name but the exact same stats, all you people who seem to have all the answers wouldn't be saying boo.

Instead of listening to yourselves, listen to Joe Theismann, Phil Simms, guys who have played the position and say quite loudly that he gets WAY too muc blame for losses and no credit for wins.

If you still want to play deaf, then why not listen to his teammates, who are in a much better position to judge than we are, with help from this quote from another Colorado paper.

"But no matter how many times you knock him down, the man does keep getting back up. In a big game in hostile territory Sunday, he showed the heart that makes him the most popular quarterback where it counts, in the Broncos locker room, since you know who."
  • SouthTXBroncoFan · 3 years ago
Billy, I'll tell you as I'd tell the other newspaper, Jake has 9 million reasons to get back up - He's one of the highest paid QB's in the NFL. But, his performance is anything but upper tier!

As for his history, who cares? All I care about is right here, right now. And in present day, Jake (or by any other name) is not IT.

As for his popularity, he is the the starting QB, after all. There's too much class in the locker room to throw Jake under the bus. They are fully aware that Jake plays off of emotion and he would be even worse without support from his peers. Put in Jay and he'll receive all the back slaps and support you can imagine!!!
  • Darrin · 3 years ago
3 Int's and some could say 4, will stop the Broncos against just about any other team in the NFL. If that had been a decent NFL team he did that against they would have lost 28-0. He's got to go. All these Plummer lovers must miss Gus also. I don't care how many times he keeps getting up, Just don't turn the ball over. Maybe it's about time he didn't get up.
  • Duke · 3 years ago
Hey south texas, quit your complaining. we are 7-2. when we end the season and we are 7-9, then you can talk it up. Nobody wants to lose games, but true fans stick it out win or lose. I have been a fan for thirty years and live on the east coast. It's bad enough to listen to these yankees crow about giants and patriots. listening to you stab your own team in the back is sickening.
was that you that Jake was flipping off? it should of been.
  • Mecklenburg77 · 3 years ago
I am with the "put in Jay Cutler" crowd. Plummer is a great QB but he is way too dangerous! The only reason this team is 7-2 is because the Defense has been so good. Look at how many times a stupid Plummer decision has put the D in a hole only to have them crawl their way out. Plummer is gifted but he makes the worst decisions by a QB that I have seen in a long time. No, there will never be another Elway but there has to be something better than Plummers mistakes!!
  • SouthTXBroncoFan · 3 years ago
Duke, I, too have been following the Broncos for many many years (since 1977) and have suffered thru some miserable seasons and will stick it out no matter what! I am glad the Bronc's are 7-2. Don't get me wrong and we both know the Broncos won't finish 7-9...we don't have Brian under center.

But, I truly believe we'll end up as a wild card and our destiny will end in either the 1st or 2nd round. I just don't see the Broncos, with Jake as our leader, going the distance. Let me eat crow, I'll savor every bite. But, I just don't see it. As for the finger, all I said to him was 'Quit throwing (expletive) interceptions!!!'
  • Darrin · 3 years ago
The Fact is we were spoiled by 16 great years and and all these Plummer fans keep finding new ways to celebrate mediocrity. But I am with the Broncos Thru Thick and Thin. If Jake Can somehow win the 3rd Ring, Then Love him I will!
  • Darrin · 3 years ago
Can you believe they banned me for a week from the Broncos message board for Complaining about Plummer? I told them to ban me forever, who cares? Everyone who responded had a signature that said I love Plummer. It was pathetic. I for one am just tired of getting scared every time he drops back to pass.
  • lew · 3 years ago
Interceptions are part of the game. If the raiders are good at anything, it's pass defense. Changing out a quarterback is the single most consequential personnel move a coach can make. It seems obvious to me that you only make it when you are losing.

Jake may give us heart problems, but he's gifted and good. If he strings enough of those good times together, the broncos are the best team in the NFL. Jay Cutler is not ready to win a super bowl. Jake Plummer at least has a chance.
  • MikeBellfan · 3 years ago
What's going on with Mike Bell? There is absolutely zero information about his inactivation anywhere? I do not have access to Denver talk radio shows?
  • M. Lee · 3 years ago
Jake is the QB and I'll support him as long as he is a Bronco. I have to tell you all one thing though, an ugly win is a whole lot better than a pretty lose.

    Go Broncos!!!!!
  • AndrewW · 3 years ago
SouthTX I'm with you. You too Darrin. Jake has done some great things in a Bronco uniform, but when it counts, when we really need him at his best (AFC Champ. game 2005) he throws multiple INTs, overthrows, behind receivers and don't forget the fumbles. We can cut him some slack in his last year as a Bronco, or, if we're going to get blown out in the first round of the playoffs anyway, why not begin the maturation process of next season's QB by putting him in now. At least he'll have an excuse for playing like a rookie. Any turnovers in the next four games and we're looking at a record of 8-6 or 7-5. And as for veterans' loyalty to Jake, they know better than to say anything negative and chance further demoralizing the team. But don't kid yourself. When Jake throws the "stupid" pick, the entire team wants to wring his neck as much as I do.
  • chris · 3 years ago
theres a reason shannahan coaches the broncos and no one that writes on this website doesnt, he knows what hes doing. Everyone is screaming for cutler, he would be starting if he was ready and guess what, hes not ready!
  • Hank · 3 years ago
No Broncos player knows the offense better than Jake Plummer. Jay Cutler is not the answer at this stage. Despite Jake's mental blogs last Sunday, I believe he will learn from his mistakes. You can argue that he continues to make mistakes but he is in a position right now at the end of his career to step it up and lead a 7-2 team into the playoffs. His teammates are 100% behind him. Shanny knows he'll come through, and he will.
  • AndrewW · 3 years ago
Hank, with all due respect, Jake has been making the same mistakes since his glory days in AZ. while playing with a perpetual last place team. WHEN will he learn from them. Last year when he got pressure in the pocket he threw the ball away. This year? It seems to me he's regressing.
  • Randy · 3 years ago
As a transplanted North Texan (Cowboy and Bronco fan since 1977 - the year of M&M), you have not "been spoiled by 16 great years"- too many of you "true" Bronco fans won't admit how ready you were (and should have been) to kick J.E. to the curb at various times. 7 of those 16 years were 9-7 or worse! (And, yes I am a J.E. fan - and a realist.) With that said: Unfortunately, the Broncos do not have a QB who can take them all the way - Jake will never put enough trust in his teammates (these aren't the Arizona Cardinals) to not make dumb throws and Jay needs time to learn the system - Can anyone say Ryan Leaf? We need to stay with Jake, make it through this year, take our "1st or 2nd round" level and say thank you but good-bye. And then, be ready to welcome Jay next year. For those that say "Jake finds a way to win" - 4th yr; top 5 offense 0 yrs; top 5 defense 2 yrs to date.
  • Sam · 3 years ago
Paul Ernster needs to be cut. Shank after shank after shank after shank. Time to eat crow and resign Sauerbrun. Thankfully, the Broncos have a good defense. Special teams sure stink.

As for Plummer, people often criticise his interceptions. However, compared to other QBs, his picks really aren't that bad (about average actually).

Plummer's primary problem is that only half of his passes are in stride and catchable. His poor throws end a ton of drives. His arm strength isn't particularly remarkable either.

Regardless, Shanahan knows what he is doing. He has personally coached the two of the best QBs in NFL history. I think Bronco fans can trust his QB decisions.

I think it's time for fans to recognize Plummer's exceptional talents though. His #1 talent is escaping sacks. I've never seen a more slippery QB ever! And don't mention Elway folks. Plummer is more difficult to sack than any QB I've seen in over 25+ years of watching football! Better than Cunningham, Elway, or Vick.

I've seen several plays this year where he seems trapped on all sides, has two 300+ lb. defensive linemen trying to drag him down, and somehow squirts out of the pocket unscathed with the ball! Say what you want about his performance in last year's AFC Championship game but I remember at least 3 awe-inspiring, Houdini-level escapes in that game

It's incredible! How does he do it? This is a truly freakist talent Bronco fans! If don't believe me, strap 300 pounds onto your back and see how well you can run! The most athletic QBs in the NFL (i.e. Vick, McNabb, Rothlisberger) don't even have Plummer's escape talent. I honestly don't understand how he does it. He's not particularly big compared to other QBs. He just has that one freakish ability.
  • SouthTXBroncoFan · 3 years ago
Sam, I just wish he'd escape out of his Broncos uni and go showcase his magic act elsewhere! He can go & try to pull a rabbit out of someone else's...As for me, I know what's behind the curtain & it aint pretty!!!
  • Gabe McCary · 3 years ago
You guys, I just hope Jake can continue to escape a strong rush, because San Diego is ferocious--even without Shawn Merriman. I don't have a good feeling about Sunday night's game. I'm praying for snow.

    Gabe
  • RJ · 3 years ago
Hey SouthTXBronco Fan! If you didn't like Plummer's performance in Oakland on Sunday, you must not have seen Big Ben's (the superbowl champion steelers QB)performance in Oakland a few weeks ago. Between the two, Plummer was better. Big Ben has the most ints of any QB in the NFL. Funny, the steeler fans aren't crying for Batch.
  • RJ · 3 years ago
By the way, the first pick Plummer threw wasn't even a pick. If you watch the replay in slo mo the ball bounces off the turf when the DB hits the ground. Too bad Shanny didn't challenge that one. The score should have been 17-6 Broncos!
  • martin · 3 years ago
    @SouthTXBroncoFan
i guess you never make mistakes ...
As for this lasting discussion about plummer and cutler, i think you guys just waste your time - Go read a book ...

Mike is making those decisions - and if he thinks cutler would be a alternative right now he would have put him in after the 3rd Int against the one-eyed black idiots.
  • Rocky · 3 years ago
I was quite surprised at the benching of Mike Bell - but that's why Shanahan is getting paid several million dollars a year...

Saurbrun was a better kicker - but if they'd kept him and he did something stupid again and got banned from the NFL they'd be in a real bind - in short he became a liability to the team. No decent coach will expose his team in such a way. It'd be better to have 30 yard punts than to have no punter at all.

In regards to Cutler vs Plummer - putting in a rookie would satisfy the fans - until he threw a few interceptions then all you fair weather fans would be screaming "Why did you choose him! The louse can't throw a football to a player in our uniform! He must be colorblind!"
  • dadzo · 3 years ago
I say it IS time for Cutler. Everyone focuses on whether or not Cutler will perform better than Jake, but, my question is, could he be any worse?
  • Christian · 3 years ago
I see both sides of the issue. I think most agree that Plummer is not the long term answer, but throwing Cutler in at this point would likely make things worse.

The two issues that have been brought up here that are the most important are: Benching Mike Bell for DAMIEN NASH?!?!?! and Ernster over Sauerbrun. This one I can kinda see, since Sauerbrun gave Ernster the opening and he played well early. But if he continues to struggle, we need to make the change. I just cannot fathom the Mike Bell thing. Like it was pointed out earlier, Damien Nash almost cost us the game. Why is Shanahan getting a pass on this one from the local/national media???? How come we're not hearing more about this???
  • Leebov C-Mak · 3 years ago
Plummer is really good!!! He's no Manning or Brady, but who is other than those two. He gets the job done and he tries really hard. His winning % in Denver is just as good as Elway's...Give him this year to prove himself and next year Cutler would take over if he fails. I still think Plummer is one of the better QB's and I really like his style. everyone likes him in the locker room and that counts for alot!!! Broncos 7-2
  • J · 3 years ago
What no one seems to notice is that Denver went to Oakland with a JV roster, rested some players, got others playing time, struggled a bit but WON. We had what - 5 starters out who got to heal for the coming weeks. We had no injuries, got some game experiance for young guys and still - guess what ? - WON!!

You question Shanny's moves this year, but he's playing POSSUM. We have seen half the palybook - if that - opponents wont game plan as well when they dont know who is playing and havent seen game tape of our whole offense. Shanny learned that against Pitt in the playoffs, they knew what we we're doing on O before we did it

Proof ? Indy and Pitt game. We saw alot more of the real offense creativity. Shanny will pull it out when he needs to, not put the whole playbook on display for a game like Oakland. Wonder why Indy gets stopped in the playoffs ? Cause they run their whole offense and someone like the Pats find the tendencies.

And on Jake ? Get over it. He's a caretaker at the position while the team quietly rebuilds around him. Shanny is reloading the roster while winning, not waiting for a 4-12 season to trash everything at once. find some guys to catch the ball, block and run consistently and we would be 9-0, ( but probably not good enough for those of you who want everything to be 'pretty')

and another thing: dont duprised if Shanny gives Cutler the P. Rivers treatment and sits him next year too. you guys want to rush a young guy in the most complicated position in sports - then you'll be the first to bitch about it if he fails.

Let's see hear: Through 10 seasons John Elway stats 158 TDs and 157 INTs. Jake Plummer through 9.5 seasons 160 TDs and 158 INTs. Yes, John Elway did get to 3 Super Bowls early on and threw 2 TDs and 6 INTs. It wasn't until his last 6 seasons that John's TD/Int ratio widened. I would imagine the same people calling for cutler were calling for John's head after 10 seasons...or for 'someone' who could win the big game.

Oh the other 2 top "savior" QBs from last years draft are a combined 2-10.

I sure am glad Mike Shannahan is coaching Denver.

Re: 'All Jake does is win'

No, All the Broncos do is win, in spite of the idiot play of a 10 year veteran who continues to make stupid rookie mistakes. Denver wins most games in spite of Plummer. Not because of the Plummer.

I am getting SICK and Tired of all these people who call them selves Bronco fans crying about a winning season. If you look @ teams who did start their college boy wonders who had the supposed cream of the crop like Arizona with Matt or Tennessee with Young, the grass only seemed greener at the time, just ask Baltimore who now has another crack at it. So I guess my question is this, would Bronco fans rather have a losing season @ somewhere around 2-7 instead of 7n2 that we are? Because I have never seen a group of fans complain soo much about winning in my life and it makes me sick to see those people sporting the blue and orange. I can guarantee that nobody in Indy was complaining about barley beating the Bills on an upset weekend. Oh ya and one more thing when is the last time you ever heard Jake blame his line the way good old P.Manning did after its loss, and by the way we still made it farther than they did making it to the AFC Championship game. Look all I am saying is if you give the QB and the whole team some support instead of constant criticism then maybe we can make a go at it, and make the home field work for us for a change, OH YA AND GO BRONCOS!
  • Exodus I · 3 years ago
Wow, has been a busy year for me, so I haven't really been listening to or reading the Denver press. I just watch as many games as I can. Here are my observations.

Jake has struggled a bit, but the running game has struggled as well. This offense is based upon running well, to open up play action.

Jake has been under constant pressure since the Pitt game last year. The OL is designed to run block, and Jake is suppose to take care of the Passing. If they don't respect the run, and just rush Jake, it makes it hard to move the ball.

Champ Bailey is the best player in the NFL right now, including Payton. I love Manning too, and think he may go down as the best ever, But I have never been impressed like I have by Champ. I played RC in school, and I didn't have 0.0005% of his skill. He is unbelievable!

Jake is the reason I left the cards as a fan. I love Phoenix, but this organization is pathetic. They don't care about winning. He singlehandedly won most of the games they won here. Look at their record since he left. Would you trade? He has won 75% of his games in Denver, you get to watch a playoff game every year. The cards haven't even been close to the playoffs since he left.

Jake isn't the problem. Shanny knows it. His teammates know it. And, remember that when you are enjoying a playoff game. here in Phoenix, they are rooting for the Lions, so they can have trade bait in the Draft next year!

These BRONCOS have not played an offense until tonight, and yes The CHARGERS did win with back-ups on defense."All Jake does is win." HA HA HA, see you in 3 weeks.
