All Things Broncos: Revolving door at running back

    I think the running backs are doing fine. It is just that the defenses don't respect our passing game. And really, why should they? Sure, we get lucky once in a while and complete a pass, but we're just as likely to complete a pass for negative yardage or turn it over. So the defense can concentrate on the run defense and stuff us. Just look at the quarterback ratings and it is clear where the real deficiencies on this team lie.

    What is Shanahan seein Tatum? Yes he can break a long one but he can't hit the hole and create his own hole like Mike Bell, Nash and Cobbs can do. I think if Shanahan is stuck with Tatum he needs to put him back in the clean up position where he can come in off the bench and break a couple big runs after Mike Bell or Nash have tired out the d-line.

    When time of possession is critical and our running game is working, why did we proceed to throw three times (0 Completions) and give the ball back. At one point we ran the ball like 8 times in a row and they couldn't stop us, why fix it (with the pass) when it ain't broke. Let's give Cutler a try.

    I think I'll wait until Cutler plays before I watch another Bronco game. They should have kept the tird QB.

    I have to agree with the earlier poster. The running game is not the problem with this team. Both Bell and Nash ran the ball very well and had good per run averages.

    I think it's ridiculous that Plummer is pointing the finger at the running game when he should be looking in the mirror and pointing the finger at himself. No defense is going to respect his game, and every team the Broncos face will dare Jake to beat them with the pass so long as he is the QB.

    Listen Shanahan. Right now Mike Bell is your guy, put personal feelings aside, and give him 30 plus carries. Run by committee has never worked in KC and won't in Denver. Just look at LJ from the Chiefs, which I'm sure you have. Mike Bell could be just as good if you just turn him loose.

    I honestly think that a healthy Tatum Bell is a star running back in this league, and hopefully for the broncos. Nobody was saying this stuff about him when he was running over the Ravens and the Patriots, and carrying Ray Lewis on his back for 8 yards. When he gets healthy he'll be fine.

    As far as the passing game goes, I've stuck behind Jake as along as I can. I have always been a Jake backer because he gets the thing that matters, and thats a W. But I think its time to give Cutler a shot. Our passing game can't get any worse! Oh yea, and maybe he'll get Rod involved more.

    Tatum was leading the AFC in rushing before he got hurt. He is the best back Denver has - when healthy.

    Everyone has a right to their opinion, but TRUST me on this one, Bronco fans:

    Tatum Bell will NOT consistently get it done, ever.

    He does not fit the Bronco mold (no hesitation ... hit the hole hard and go) as well as Mike Bell does;

    he is not tough enough and is injury prone/limited;

    he pouts, has a sensitive ego, and shows signs of being a prima donna (Clinton Portis without the physical talent);

    not to mention the occasional critical fumbles.

    The Bronco running game works best when no-limit soldiers make 1 cut, then pound & protect the football.

    Tatum bell is a square peg trying to fit in a round hole.
    Mike Bell and Damien Nash (i.e. Mike Anderson, Olandis Gary, Terrell Davis)fit the system much better.

    Thoughts?

    Watching from afar, I see aLOT of T.Davis in Mike Bell. Slashing and strong downhill runner. I see a straight up runner with speed in Tatum, but not the drive. I think Mike is right for the Denver running style, like Portis and Davis.

    Something is not quite right with T Bell. I think his legs are too long or something. He can't seem to keep his feet on the ground. If you watch him he very often slips making a cut and when he gets through a hole it doesn't take much to knock his feet out from under him. His stride is too long. It's become irritating to me since I noticed this. Also, Plum and Plummer must go.
