All Things Broncos: Take the good; expect some bad

  • Greg · 2 years ago
How did we become so bad?

Hanging on for muffed extra points and blown onside kick attempts. Could we put a game away with a few first downs? Could the defense make a stop?

How many games did we give up in the 4th quarter? Seattle, SD, Indy...

You can see the potential of some of these young guys on offense and that's encouraging, especially Cutler.

I know we haven't had alot of luck this year, so maybe we deserved this one, but I don't feel that we are a better team than Cincy. They missed about 4 TDs. Our defensive zone has holes the size of Colorado.

Our D made some big plays, but overall, they did little to give me any confidence going into the playoffs.

On the good side... That 99 yard drive was awesome... if we could do that a little more, we have potential.

Well, merry Christmas, congrats to the Broncs... we should handle the 9ers at home. If nothing else, one extra game of experience for our youngsters.

Cutler is not the problem, that defense is pathetic, we shouldn't have won today, that foxworth is twice the player Darent (the too short sieve) is. And I don't know what happened to the run defense, if the Champ and the Lynch didn't show up with their "A" game it would not have been close. At least we have a good QB to look forward to next season.

let the cutler hating, or should I say jealousy begin. explain why plummer would still be better.
  • Greg · 2 years ago
Is it me or is Darrent often right there, but can't play the ball?

Seems like he's got good cover skills, but bad ball skills.

I agree that Cutler isn't a problem, but they did not do enough on offense. If Cincy makes a couple more plays that were wide open, we lose. Their strength is not there D, so we need to put up more points.

But he is a rookie and that's what we'll see... some good, some bad.

Every game he gets behind him (Cutler), the better off we are.

    Merry Christmas, and the Broncos
are fun to watch again. Its been to many years. May not go deep in the playoffs, but wait till Jay
    "THE ROCKET MAN" Cutler matures.
The 99 yard drive reminded me of th Elway years.

Why isn't anyone all cranked by "old man" Lynch's performance? Big hits at key times! To me, every bit as impressive as the Champ tonight! If I could have gave out a game ball, it would've gone to Lynch.

Yeah we were lucky, but I don't think the way the team's determination was going, that Cincy would have won in OT. BTW I agree with #2 about Darent.

Cutler's got incredible physical skills. Hopefully with time, he can get the mental part too (not too bad right now). I like Jake, but he just doesn't have the physical gifts the Kid's got. Unfortunately he just never totally got the mental thing either.

Probably going to be next year, but the future's so bright, I gotta were shades!!

Let's see....How's it going to go.....something like this:

-Denver didn't win. Cincy beat themselves.

-Cutlers tying Marino is just another stupid stat and not in any way indicative of his potential.

-if it weren't for that missed PAT we would have lost.

-I was going to keep going but some of you who are lit up on Plummer juice will do it for me.

    - I was thinking of trying to employ a different perspective. i.e:
Good job Champ and John. We sure could use some pressure on the QB. Let's address that on the off season. Draft, Trade etc.
    - Cutler needs some work but He's coming along nicely and what a rocket.
    -Broke that homefield L streak.
-Isn't it great that with the changes, injuries and everything else, we are in a position to make the playoffs and get some good practical experience for next year.
-99 yard "DRIVE". I am not making comparisons But it was positive.
-I can't help but be positive. As long as Shanny props up the front "D" in the Off "S".

Fire Larry Coyer already. Prevent D will prevent a superbowl, allow all teams to score TD (eventually maybe not the homerun but slowly score). He's obviously too retarted now to be a D-Coordinator.
  • JohnJakeJay · 2 years ago
Has anyone found the playoff scenarios for next week online? I'm trying to calculate everything here....it looks like there's 2 possibilities (anyone see any others?):

    1) Broncos Win; OR
    2) Broncos Loss + KC Loss

If the Broncos lose and KC wins, the Broncos are done since KC will knock Denver out of the wildcard by virtue of a better division record (the first tiebreaker to eliminate teams in the same division BEFORE conference record comes into play).
  • Shawn · 2 years ago
When will Mike S. get rid of the worst defensive coordinator in the NFL. Does Larry have any idea how to blitz? I can't stand to watch this defense anymore. With this clown in charge of the defense the Broncos have no chance in the Playoffs, if the make it.
  • Go_Pats · 2 years ago
Belichick will destroy a team that has a rookie QB. I hope Pats face Broncos first, then Chargers next for AFC championship. Go Brady !!!
  • JohnJakeJay · 2 years ago
Belichek BARELY even beat Danny Kannel a few years ago. Shanahan owns him--it doesn't matter who's behind center. If it wasn't for crappy Deltha O'Neal, he'd be winless against the Broncos with the Patsies.
  • Jose Gonzalez · 2 years ago
Love the Broncos!, but the Defense is not very good. These guys cannot put pressure on qb's. I loved that they won against Cincinati today, but the Defense gave up big plays. It is brutal to watch this defense operate. It looks as if they are using the wrong scheme all the time. Could someone please ask Coyer to send more guys after the quaterbacks??
  • Go_Pats · 2 years ago
Few years ago, Pats used to be in Superbowl and won it every time. :) When was the last time Broncos were in Superbowl? Fifth time in post season appearance in last six times, 3 times superbowl champions, not bad for Pats. Oh..well..we are spoiled by Pats here. If Pats does not win Super Bowl, it is an average season for us. You guys should be happy, if 49ers don't surprise you next week.
  • JohnJakeJay · 2 years ago
Come on...you're spoiled by 5 years of success? I guess 5 years seems like an eternity after a lifetime of failure for a horrid franchise. I tell ya, that Hugh Millen back in the 90s--he really was the cornerstone of an NFL laughing-stock. But hey, I'm a long-time Broncos fan....I don't know how failure feels. And if you really think the Broncos play just to get to the playoffs every year, you're an idiot.

Besides, the ONLY reason the Patsies won those Super Bowls is cause they didn't have to play Denver in the playoffs those years. The fact is, we own you. Don't try to deflect attention from that with irrelevant facts...
  • Vandy Randy · 2 years ago
I agree anonomys. Today just proves how smart Shanahan is and how great Jay is. Jay has that special quality about him that makes people around him better. Oh yeah, and he's got a friggin rocket launcher for a cannon. Hey Plummer lovers, how you like Jay now? I thought so.

The Broncos desperately need a pass rush. Hopefully the draft will bring to Denver a "Dwight Freeny" type of Pass rusher.
  • Broncsrulepats · 2 years ago
#1 Go_Pats in case you missed it we already beat you guys once this year, with the QB that wasn't playing very at the time. Cutler gets better every game and Garrad threw pretty well on you guys today and he doesn't even begin to compare to Cutler as a QB. It wasn't that long ago that sharpe was humilating your team on national tv calling for the president to call out the national gaurd, so lets not talk history. We have so much more great history here and we both know it.

#2 Dr max Clark, we did draft a Freeny type pass rusher and he has had a pretty good season. His name is Elvis and he has played in 11 games and notched 7.0 sacks, they leauge rookie sack leader has 10, but he has also played 14 games to do it. Oh yeah Elvis forced a fumble today,I think.
  • Bill · 2 years ago
Our defense is pathetic. Lynch actually played the best. Bailey is always awesome, but once again there was not a DB around a Cincy receiver, the entire defense couldn't tackle, and no rush on the QB. Is it the scheme or the players? The LB's were virtually non-existent. Not a playoff team that's for sure. Cutler is finding a home. That is the only positive I can see. Who cares if we won. We didn't win the game, Cincy lost it for themselves!
  • C · 2 years ago
Lynch had a big game. It's obvious why he's a pro-bowler. Bailey also had a good game. The problem with the D is the total lack of pressure on the qb. Last week, Carson Palmer was sacked on almost every play. He got destroyed. This week? Almost nothing.

Dumervill got lucky on a few sacks. Did you see how slow he was after picking up that fumble? The d-line is just not very good, and that's a huge problem. Cincy ran the ball all over us in the first half. No pressure on the qb. Obviously, it was a serious error getting rid of trevor price. He's close to leading the NFL in sacks this year. His high salery would have been worth it, because our d-line is garbage.

The best rb on the team is an undrafted free agent. Not exactly steven jackson or lawrence maroney. The receiving core is also relying on unheralded rookies. Do you really see Cutler, Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffler out-dueling Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, and Reggie Wayne in a play-off game?

Still, the broncos have shown that they can beat some of the best teams in the league (baltimore, new england) but this really is an off year. They could get lucky, but I'd say year after next is when they'll be a top contender. They need time to build around cutler who is clearly going to be one of the best qb's in the league. Leinart is already hurt. Anyone who rated Matt Leinart ahead of Jay Cutler should be permanently banned from football. There's no comparison.
  • Elvis · 2 years ago
In Dumervil's defense (for being slow)...the Bengals had been going no-huddle the whole drive and the whole D was winded. That play is still mind-boggling--the D wasn't even set!

As for Lynch, I was SHOCKED when I saw his name in the Pro Bowl--he's been average at best this year. Maybe it was a good thing though that everyone's been saying he shouldn't be there--he obviously came out with something to prove today. Now, if he can just keep that level of play up...(note: he still got burned on a couple of big pass plays today on which he looked really slow).

Go_Pats, your an idiot. See you in the playoffs and by the way, your team will be watching the Broncos in the next playoff game.
  • SCC · 2 years ago
I’m not ready to say Cutler is special. He’s played against bad teams and mediocre teams playing poorly, with the exception of San Diego who annihilated Denver. The kid has beaten the 30th and 32nd ranked pass defenses in the NFL the past two weeks and this week he is going up against 27th ranked pass defense in San Francisco (only Washington and Tampa Bay have given up more touchdown passes). So settle down.

    Go_Pats,
Uh... get used to it... the only way the Pats go to the Superbowl this year is if they buy a ticket.
