All Things Broncos: Two games in five days

  • chgrbill · 3 years ago
Sooooooo, how bout them Chargers?!?? HAAA HHA HAAAA HAAAA
    Happy Turkey Day, Denver.
  • Scott Urbach · 3 years ago
Shanahan showed he did not trust the defense when he went for it on 4th and 4 in their own territory on Sunday, and he has shown his distrust of Plummer all season in the conservative game plans, so why not try to give the team a spark and play Cutler? Jake the Mistake is not making plays and when he drops the ball on a key 3rd down, throws a terrible pass on 4th down and finally fumbles on the last drive....it shows it is time to move on. He does not have IT. Does Cutler have IT? Only one way to find out......
  • ROb · 3 years ago
Hmmmm. Well I will give SD credit for playing a good game, But Coach Marty will always choke in the playoffs.
  • Johnny Unitus · 3 years ago
I think the SD Superchargers are the real deal. They'll be going all the way. They are never out of a game. Last week they did the same thing to the Bengals. Good luck against KC.
  • dgibson · 3 years ago
Give Marty some respect. All I heard before the game was how Marty S. would choke again at Mile High. Looks like Shanahan is the one choking this year. Time to give Marty some respect.
  • Russ Holm Jr · 3 years ago
Being one of 4 Broncos fans in a packed downtown San Diego bar, I was extatic to see us up 17 points in the third quarter. But we blew it, and we can't look to Jake to pull us through. We need to give Cutler a chance because he has showed not only in College but in the pre-season this year that he has the drive to lead the team. Give him a shot! What do we have to lose? Another game to the Chargers? That can't happen.
  • Craig Ervin · 3 years ago
The offense failed as usual per Jake. The deffense failed per Coyer. When will we stop playing our D.B.'s five yards deeper than the first down marker on third and medium. A 75% conversion ratio is shameful with this defense.
  • Scott · 3 years ago
I agree with Urbach - Jake Plummer looks lost out there. Witness the growth of Rivers on the other sideline. He's fired up and passionate about the game, his team, his own performance and accountability. Jake throws a pick, DROPS A SHOTGUN SNAP on a crucial 3rd down, and very nonchalantly jogs back to the sideline. I'd rather see him flipping the bird to those in the stands - then at least it would show that he cared about something! Bring in Mr. Cutler - look what an infusion of youth and enthusiasm has done for the Cowboys!
  • KSCat · 3 years ago
For the Love of God and all that is Holy, get Plummer the heck outta there!! Put him on the bench for awhile…..or a “time out….whatever. This guy has run out of excuses....his inconsistency is getting really old really quick. You’re ahead by 17 and then lose the flippin game???!!! Plummer IS NOT ELWAY and he won’t/can’t win a game in the finally 2 minutes or less when he is the one who put you in that situation the way it is. Give Mr. Cutler a chance. He can’t be any worse than what is goin on now. Hey, he (Cutler) just might be the “spark that the team needs.
  • Denver fan from Phx! · 3 years ago
Denver has showed they have no defense against a good passing team, and apparently against a top running back like LT last night? Defense lost this game easily in the 2nd half, anyone watching the game surely saw that? Shanahan is strange with his play calling and trying to make Jake a "Pocket" quaterback is never going to be successfull, as even the announcers commented as to why Jake isnt doing
more "bootlegs" etc as thats his type of game and where he is at his best! Denver was exposed last night as they were against Indy, and untill they figure out a better passing defense they wont win many more games, and lots of players are to blame for this loss, not just one! Did anyone else see the lousy defense that couldnt stop SD with their back to back touchdowns--pathetic!! All teams make mistakes, from the Coaches bad plays called, to receivers who cant get open, to bad defense, to bad tackling, to a line that cant protect the passer, and also quarterbacks make mistakes under pressure, and thats how it is! A different quaterback wouldnt solve all those problems, as trying to simply out-score the opponent doesnt always work?? SD was clearly the better team last night and thats the bottom line!
  • John Osborn · 3 years ago
In all I've heard and read so far no one mentions the special teams. The were a debacle. When you only have to drive half the field, well as Martha Stewart says, "It's a beautiful thing". Special teams aren't Jake's fault.
  • Ses · 3 years ago
What makes me sad is the San Diego didn't have many of their best defensive players on the field. The Broncos did and look what happened. That is scary for Bronco fans.
  • Browncows · 3 years ago
No pash rush. No killer instinct and no QB worth a hang. Denver is done and probably looking at a wild card birth. How in the heck is ebenezur scrooge ekuban supposed to cover tomlinson? Coyer stinks as a defensive coordinator and shannahan made some bone head calls in the end. How in the world do you get outscored 28-3 in 20 minutes?! This team has no killer instinct!
  • Mark · 3 years ago
If last night proved anything to Broncos fans, it's that Jake Plummer is not the answer at QB. And quite possibly, the Jay Cutler era should begin.

In critical moments, Plummer turned the ball over. He single handedly handed the game to St. Louis to begin the season and found ways to get Indy back in the game via turnovers. Even Oakland remained a close game because Plummer does not know how to manage the game when it counts.

Last night's game was case in point. On 4th and 4 from our own 30-ish (a horrendous play calling decision by Shanahan), Plummer throws an interception. Then, in spite of everything, the Broncos are able to get in position for a tying score. And Plummer coughs it up one last time.

SHANAHAN - LET THE JAY CUTLER ERA BEGIN! WE ARE TIRED OF PLUMMER COSTING US THE BIG GAMES!
  • David · 3 years ago
I have now accepted the fact that this not a championship caliber team. Denver fan in PHX hit the nail on the head, this is more than Jake being mediocre, this is a team that lacks direction, a consistent pass rush, and a running back that can dominate in the second half when Denver has a lead. It saddens me to feel like this season is going no where quickly, but i am afraid that is the way it is. The Broncos are a good team, but we still are missing a couple of key components necessary to be an elite NFL team. Keep the faith Bronco fans, I believe a return to the top of the league is closer than it appears this dismal monday morning....
    GO ORANGE and BLUE!!!
  • Bill Crane · 3 years ago
The Colts & the Chargers are the two best teams in the NFL. If we can't beat them at home w/ Plummer, we can't be them on the road w/ Plummer in the playoffs. Go w/ Cutler now; even if we lose he gets valuable experience for next year.
  • Jack Meoff · 3 years ago
Denver fans show here that they have a lot of class, too bad their team doesn't possess the same charactoristics. Watching the Denver Center diving at someone's knees during a play in which everyone knows Plummer is just spiking the ball was hard to watch for ANY football fan I hope. Oshansky should have ripped the dudes helmet off and beat him with it instead of just throwing a punch. I hope the league takes the issue up cause the dudes actions were a definite occurance of INTENT TO INJURE!
  • Jeremy · 3 years ago
How much worse does Plummer have to get before Cutler gets a chance. I really don't believe that Cutler can play any worse than Plummer. The receivers seem to be getting open, but Plummer just can't hit them. I have been hoping Plummer would get hurt for the last 3 weeks so that the Plummer Experiement can be put to bed. We have all the talent and weapons needed on offense to be a great offense, we just need a QB with arm strength some accuracy and a brain.
  • Slim · 3 years ago
Let's not get on the defense too hard. The offense has to control the ball sometimes. How many 3 and outs did we have last night, particularly when we went to the passing game. I hate to say this again, but its just NO FUN to watch the Broncos when we have Jake at the controls. For crying out loud, get him out of there. We all know that there will be another post season failure with Jake as quarterback. Lets at least put the fun back in the game and let Jay have a chance. Hell, for that matter, bring back Bradley VP.
  • brink spruill · 3 years ago
I have been a Broncos fan since John Elway was drafted. I lived there then, but Kentucky now. I have no idea why Plummer is still quarterbacking this team. Absolutely NO arm accuracy. And Marty looked cool and in control whereas Shanahan looked like he was panicked over whether to order a Denny's Grand Slam or steak and eggs.
  • Bernard Pratt · 3 years ago
If Shannahan doesn't bench Jake the Fake soon, he should be fired along with the LOSER Jake the Fake..... the guy has been a loser his entire pro career, and cannot be counted on in the clutch..... yeah so he has led a few fourth quarter comebacks, but a blind squirrel also finds an occassional nut. Jake the Fake has lost many more games than he will ever win.
  • Brian in Evans · 3 years ago
Denvers defense has no chance when the offense comes out and repeatedly goes 3 and out. 3 incomplete passes in a row. Then a fumble. Then an interception. Then dropped snaps. This moron of a quarterback continues to put the defense in a bind. It is a good defense, not a great one, and can not win the games for the offense against top knotch teams. And that was San Diegos "B" team on defense, at Our House. Plummer is pathetic. 13 of 28. Fumbles. Interceptions.
  • Brian James · 3 years ago
Sure, Jake stinks like smelly sneakers, but the real stinky cheese is the idiot masquerading as their defensive coordinator. Does he play a prevent defense every play? Both Indy and San Diego killed them on short passes. Where's the press coverage? Denver is suppose to have all this speed at cornerback. Why doesn't he utilize the talent he has?
  • Ryan S. Hansen · 3 years ago
I am a diehard Denver Broncos fan and have been a fan of Jake Plummer since his days at Arizona State. Unfortunately, for Plummer he knows he is a lame duck quarterback, he used to play with fire and passion, now he plays scared and with hesitation. The true Broncos defense was exposed last night, they cannot stop the great offensive teams, i.e. the Colts and Chargers. The defensive line can't generate pressure and so quarterbacks have all-day to check off to their third, fourth and fifth routes. Denver will find a way to lose at Kansas City on Thanksgiving and will finish most likely at 10-6, but no better than 11-5. If they are lucky, they will host a wildcard game, which I doubt and will lose again early in the playoffs similiar to 2000, 2003 and 2004. As much as I was glad the Broncos signed Jake Plummer in 2003 and for some of his great moments as well as 39-14 record as the Broncos starter, he just isn't a quarterback, who can win shootout games. I don't know what happened to him, back in college and even with the Arizona Cardinals he could, but he can't. Hopefully, he can latch on in Detroit or Minnesota next season and earn a few more paychecks before his career is over because he will not be leading the Denver Broncos to a Super Bowl or any other NFL team for that matter.
  • bronco lifer · 3 years ago
I have been a bronco fan since 1976 the year before the 1st superbowl. I was at the game sunday night. what I saw was Denver recievers wide open down the field and Jake trying to stuff the ball into the covered guy. I saw a guy who couldn't throw a quick out to save his life and a guy who evidentally has halucinations because the last pass he threw was right to the defense. no receiver even close. The rookie couldn't be worse than that,SO LET'S GET THE BOY SOME EXPERIENCE.
  • Bronco Andy · 3 years ago
    Ok folks...

While Jake did not have a good game, he did not lose this game for the Broncos. Stop holding him underneath the damn microscope.

Two things lost us the game:

    1. Special Teams was HORRIBLE. Even horrible is not a strong enough term for it.

    2. The Defense. Well, not all of the defense. While watching the game, did anyone else notice that Mr. Fergeson spent all of his time WHIFFING on tackles and chasing LT down the fields. I had not seen that bad of tackling since Pee-Wee football. I believe that the injury at safety was the most critical one for this defense last week.
  • Raghu Sakleshpur · 3 years ago
    Mr. Shanahan,

The season is not over yet. It will be if we continue with this pathetic show of offense. Here are the top 3 things i would do to keep the Broncos hopes alive to play deep into the play offs this season:
    1) Start playing Cutler. Jake is FINISHED.
    2) Start Playing Cutler. Jake is FINISHED.
    3) Start playing Cutler. Jake is FINISHED.

    Regards

    Dream Job:

Defensive coordinater for any team facing Jake Plummer.
  • Les Dawson · 3 years ago
I'm in Arizona and you're finding out what we lived with for several years, when Plummer's forced to carry a team, he makes dumb mistakes. However, you're 7-3, that's not bad and Jay Cutler is not going to come off the bench and win games for you. Jake still gives you the best chance to win right now. Cutler's chance comes next year and be prepared to lose a lot of games in his first season. Rookie QBs are not known for winning.
  • Toney Hill · 3 years ago
I agree that Shanahan isn't playing Plummer to his skill sets - scrabbling, running and throwing from the bootleg or on the move. Plummer is like one of those dogs with a plastic funnel around his neck. He's relegated to playing like a drop back passer, which he's not. Plummer is not being played to his strengths. In boxing, you can't turn a jab puncher into a knockout slugger, same principle applies.

While the running game seemed to finally move the ball, the passing was anemic. Why can't both be properous at the same time. What about the tight ends only getting one pass or so the whole game? When it was 4th down and 4 yards, seems the TE would have already lulled the defense to sleep for an easy 5 yard pass? I can't understand, why after taking a time out to get the right play called - the offense can't execute.

Denver's defense was awful and lousy the second half. No real pressure on Rivers the second half and denver's linebacks & secondary were giving way too much cushion on pass defense.

What's with Ernster? He was punting great when he was earning the position, now he's pretty inconsistent. Maybe Shanahan needs to tell him he has a pink slip with his name on it if he can't get the job done. The special teams are giving away too much field position away and can't tackle.

Denver can't be a serious playpoff contender if the offense can't score more than 20 points in a game and the defense can't stop teams on third down.

Why is it when Denver has the opportunity to control their own destiny, especially at home, they fail so miserably to a National audience? They knew this game would be crucial to winning the AFC West and gave up the second half.
  • Lenny Green · 3 years ago
Why does Coyer insist on this soft style of Defense? Why is Shanny throwing the ball when Denver is leading with 12:00 to go in the game? Soft Defense them burned against Indy, and again last night. The first half there was pressure on Rivers forcing errant passes and INT's.Then in the second half he switched to a four man front. You give good quarterbacks all the time in the world and even Champ cant contain them. You cant blame these losses solely on Jake, look at his winning percentage since taking the reigns in Denver. However, poor decision making on his part should land him a spot on the bench like Foster, and Scheffler. Special Teams was horrible. Denver is one of the worst in the league at average starting field position. Time the coaches take accountability!!!

Jake has proven he cannot win the big games. It is time to bite the bullet and move ahead, even if it means a year or two of losing seasons.
  • SoTXBroncoFan · 3 years ago
I said it over and over again last week (check my posts) that Jake does not have IT, the defense will continue to get lit up playing zone and if Shanahan has ZERO confidence in Jake, then it's time to make a move. But, NO, this board lit me up by questioning my FAITH in my Broncos and that I should be happy with a 7-2 mark. I responded that the Broncos were 7-2 despite Jake and that the Broncos will be a wild card team with or without Jake the Mistake! Now, the eventual is occuring and it looks like it's going to get worse before it gets better!!! Repeat after me: LET'S PLAY JAY! LET'S PLAY JAY! LET'S PLAY JAY!
  • Parris L. Mason · 3 years ago
I have been patient and dedicated to Plummer since we signed him, but it is time for change. I know he wins 3 out of 4 for the Broncos, but he just does'nt win the big games. The Broncos needed that game last night and when it was clutch time Plummer stunk.
Please coach Shanahan start Cutler and let's move on.
  • Jason · 3 years ago
Is it me or does shanahan look like his days are numbered over there on the sidelines. His play calling is terrible and he doesn't have Elway, TD, or Sharpe to bail him out anymore. Its unbelieveable to think that Shanahan scripts the first 15 plays and they haven't done nothing on there first or second drives all year. The defense is not as good now as they were earlier in the season, they miss way too many tackles and can't rush the passer AT ALL!!! Offensively, they need to get the ball to Walker 7-10 times, how does he catch only 3-5 balls a game UNBELIEVABLE. Again that falls on Shanahan. So bronco fans prepare for a 10-6 season and an early playoff exit again.Let the CUTLER era begin!!
  • everdude · 3 years ago
MY PREDICTION: Look for a QB change this week. Shannahan was laying the groundwork when he benched starters Mike Bell and George Foster for underperforming. Well - what is the most underfperforing position on the team? That would obviously be the quarterback position. Time to make the change. Plummer will not take the Broncos to the Super Bowl. I don't think there is one person alive that believes that.
  • West Slope Broncos Fan · 3 years ago
I made the three hour drive for the Indy game, and despite being entertained, was in shock over the lack of pressure on Manning and the ridiculous cushions given by our cornerbacks. I almost made the drive again last night, and I am thrilled that I did not. Watching on television was torture enough. You cannot consider yourself a Super Bowl contender when you give up four consecutive touchdowns on your home field. Jake may need to sit down, but there is much more going on here than just Jake.

So, all I kept hearing was that Cutler did as well as he did only playing 2nd and 3rd string defenses. Well, did you hear Marty's post game comments? With the amount of injuries on their defense, they struggled to find guys to fill positions with any sort of practice experience.

So, how did Jake do against 2nd & 3rd string guys? Oh, you're telling me that our #1 QB can't take advantage of a defense that resembled a MASH unit??? Please! Broncos were EXPOSED in every aspect last night. But, in particular, our No. 1 QB, in a game at home, playing in front of a national audience, for a 1+ game lead in the AFC West, passed for a rating of 53.1 against a 2nd & 3rd string defense. That's right...53.1. Just AWFUL! And for all those 'Support Jake' and 'he'll get better' comments, please, leave those thoughts to yourself. We're sick and tired of it already!!!
  • Art · 3 years ago
Shanahan has to take some of the blame for this one along with the defensive coordinator. Going for it on fourth down on your 40 was a panic attack. He basically gambled and put his defense in an unattainable spot which led to a touch down rather than possibly a field goal or even 0 points while eating the clock up. Also, his defensive coordinator had no answer when SD started flooding the zone with short passes. Finally, it's obvious Williams is not a long term CB. His size is finally catching up to him no matter how big his heart is.
  • Mark · 3 years ago
I will flat-out admit that I have stuck-up for Plummer way too long, and last night he was a disaster. However, I want to know what offensive threats does he really have on offense? A slow, old Rod Smith? Who is the go-to tight end? Who is the running back this week? Where is Brandon Marshall? David Kircus has not done anything. Let's face it, Plummer was never the answer to this franchise. He was brought in with the hope Denver would have talent around him. NEWS FLASH>>> Besides Javon Walker, the Denver offense has no playmakers. Guess we should have not run Ashley Lelie out of town.
  • Dr. Max Clark · 3 years ago
Jake Plummer lost the game. Interceptions and the fumble. It time to realize that the time is now to plaan for 2997 and draft a blocking fullback, heavier linebackers who can stop the run, a taller coernwr than Williams, AND LDEFENSIVE LINEMAN.
  • Mark · 3 years ago
I am a Plummer supporter, but will admit he was a disaster last night. However, every Bronco fan that wants Culter to start should consider this. If Cutler starts over Plummer, he is going to have the same problems Jake is having right now: No go-to tight end, an old, slow Rod Smith, No third receiver, never knowing who your running back is going to be and double coverage on your only play maker Javon Walker.

Hell, it's amazing that they have won seven games! Jake has no offensive threats besides Walker. Looks like it wasn't such a good idea to run Ashley Lelie out of town.
  • SDfan · 3 years ago
Funny, last week you were all saying how you were going to beat us. Now it sounds like you never had hope to begin with. It's like I said, you have to be a mile high if you think you're going to beat our offense. Now hurry up and go pack, you have to be at the airport soon to go to KC. Oh, and don't forget your backups!
  • Charles · 3 years ago
The Broncos CAN'T stop the pass and they never will as long as they go with that "soft cushion zone" coverage. It's been the case year after year. QB's from Rich Gannon, Peyton Manning Ben Rothelisberg (?) and any decent QB will always pick the secondary a part at will and the Broncos will never win a big game a against a decent passing team.
  • Anonymous · 3 years ago

Darrent Williams needs help. It is obvious that all teams that play the Broncos know where they are weak. Darrent Williams needs help. The front four cannot generate enough pressure to save Williams. Let's don't fool ourselves and think that Darrent is the solution at cornerback his lack of size gets exploited every time the other team needs a big play. Our offensive line played well, Plummer was the same as always but don't blame him, you know what you are getting with him. It is time to blitz a little more and double on the other side of Champ.
  • Armando · 3 years ago
In a game like last night's, your QB could've - should've - made plays, or at least putting the team in a position to win, instead of fumbling, and misfiring, in key spots. A rookie could not have done much worse. The offense desperately needs a shot in the arm, especially when the defense suffers. Plummer has been bailed out by the defense all year, but who can bail out the defense when they play a great offense?
  • All"Charged"up · 3 years ago
As a 12 year Charger fan who year after year has watched the Broncos repeatedly beat our ass at home and in Denver, I get a chuckle out of these posts. You guys are so spoiled. Elway only comes along once in a decade and to your considerable enjoyment, he played for Denver. The Chargers are good this year. Give them credit. They'll get better if they can get some of their defenders back and Marty doesn't blow it again (which he will). You see it could be worse than Jake Plummer's shortcomings. If you're a Charger fan, you have to deal with this-- Marty will get this incredibly talented Team into the playoffs, get a lead, and then sit on it with 20 consecutive running plays. And lose. I GUARANTEE IT. He cannot help himself.
  • North San Diego County · 3 years ago
Denver fans pour the acid on Plummer, but you will always compare your QBs to John Elway. You will never have an Elway again so you may want to soften the verbal assaults on your QBs. Didn't Plummer also have to deal with a season ending loss of an All-Pro left tackle last week? Plummer is not nearly as bad as you paint him to be. Denver does have a few damaged running backs and that is injurious to Plummer's situation.

    Craig Morton????
Now there is a guy who could run a bootleg!

If Denver was going to make a move at QB they should have done it before this week.Shanahan is so stubborn, he has really blown it. I think he has turned into a choker as a coach.Losing last night is really a season killer. His offensive style is so stale, he has turned into Dan Reeves, a good coach with average players who are over achievers. He has an unwillingness to change his style.Reeves always played not to lose and Shanny is the same way. With Elway you always had a shot to make a play on 3rd and 8.With Plummer, you are just hoping he dosent throw an interception or fumble the ball. They are back to the Brian Griese offense, its getting unbearable to watch.

I cant blame the defense, they get worn out having to deal with all the 3 and outs from the offense. The pass rush suffers in the second half because the guys get tired from being out there so much. They even scored 7 of the 27 pts last night and that wasn't enough.I dont understand how they thought losing Trevor Pryce was going to upgrade there defensive pass rush.

The only way Shanny will play Cutler is if Pat Bowlen tells him to or Plummer gets hurt.

    Denver Dogs!
Your year is over. Plummer couldn't hit a billboard from twenty paces. Your defense ran for cover in the second half, they didn't even see LT much less stop him. Your Center tried to take out Oshansky with a cut block, which truly shows the cowardice of your Defensive Team. We are looking forward to your upcoming visit to Our House. We will knock you out of any Wild Card hopes. Your finished!

  • BrcsFn4ever · 3 years ago
I agree with all that has been said here today, not only is Plummer the most bonehead QB to hit this town. But the coaches are not letting the talents of this team be used to its potential. Why, with all the speed the defense has, would you play a zone coverage without pressure on the QB. You are just looking to be picked apart, by an average QB, let alone a good one.
    - The CB always are off of the receiver by 6-10 yards.
    - Absolutely no pressure on the QB
    - Darrent is a good CB, but as last night showed, his size is a liability

as for the offense, i see only one failure

    - JAKE THE F^#%^^ FAKE, holy cow

how come everyone else on the offense gets benched, when they are doing a pretty good job. But the one who actually makes them look like they can't do anything is still playing. The team should revolt against Jake, he is the one who should be benched. I mean how much worse could it be with Cutler in there? THen losses wouldn't be so bad, it would at least show that they were trying to make an attempt to better the team. Might as well let him get his bumps and bruises this year and get those first rookie games out of his system. Then next year he will have a good sense of what is going on. Otherwise he will just be a raw rookie next year, and we will have to wait another year for a look into the playoffs. ANyways, whatever they do they need to bench PLUMMER, he is a loser, and a boneheaded QB.

the defensive scheme is horrible ! they need to quit running stunts on the line and getting all bunched up, quit sending the linebackers on every other play and play them where they are supposed to be ( in the middle ), the secondary has got to quit giving recievers so much cushion and start jamming them keep the safety's back and play over the corners, and by all means make an adjustment when things aren't working

Denver Fans! Like Politics, Football team success is cyclical. When the Republicans control congress and the senate, the Economy prospers. Chargers are stacked with talent right now. They will have success for years to come...it's been a long-time waiting since the Fouts/Coryell era. It is San Diego's turn to dominate.
  • AndrewW · 3 years ago
9 wins, 7 losses. That's what it's looking like. KC will beat us out for the last wild card spot and we miss the playoffs. That's the only difference between Kizla's "Broncos Are Desparate" article and my opinion. No defense fears our offense; no offense fears our defense. Why should they?
  • The Man · 3 years ago
Cutler is not the answer. I am sure he is NOT wanting to get the nod. Can he rush? How about cover so the opposing teams offense doesn't score FIVE straight times. Can he tackle on special teams? Do you think HE can pass with people in his face? Jake should be expected to shoulder his share of the blame, but get real. This is not a great ball club. The O line is not as good as years past, and the D line can't pressure anyone. The dbacks can't be expected to cover for the ten minutes it seems to take the opposing qb to find a target. And...the punter thinks he is punting a shot put. Which is not very good. I place most of the blame in the coaching. Scripted plays??? Yeah right, then quit sending the script to the opposition. The Broncos sure miss Kubiak....

The bend but don’t break defense only works on mediocre quarter backs. It is basically a prevent defense except Lynch is playing the run. The only way to screw up a good qb is to screw up his timing, and letting receivers get off the line with no contact allows the qb to maintain his timing. With fast corners, this is a stupid tactic.

Denver's passing attack is so vanilla, it’s no wonder it’s easy to defend against. The one drive all year that utilized the tight ends resulted in a quick touchdown. Throwing to the tight ends makes the linebackers have to focus on coverage and takes them out of their run defense. It also commands the attention of the safeties, allowing the wide outs more freedom. Its also simple economics. If there are 5 people you think might get the ball, you are less aggressive and more reactive.

Plummer showed us all what he was about in the AFC Champ game and has continued all year. When its time to lead by example and show his team mates that he is determined to win, he sags his head, drops his shoulders and mopes. Then he makes a costly mistake. It is understandable with a rookie, or with someone new to a system, but with a 10 year vet with this many years in the system it is unacceptable. Shanahan, your loyalty is undermining all of your preaching about 'high standards'

Defense -- Man under press coverage. You have fast corners, use them.
Offense -- Tight ends good! Get the safeties off of Javon.
QB -- Standards are mute if they don’t apply to everyone.

That was a bush league chop block that Nalen (I think it was him) threw on Olshansky last night? I would have thrown punches at him too. You don't dive at a guy's knees when your quarterback is going to take a knee or spike the ball. Everyone, including SD's D-line knew what was going to happen, so Olshansky did the sporting thing and just stood out of his stance only to have Nalen try and cheap shot him. Granted, Olshansky should be fined for fighting, but at least the whole country saw the bush league move by Denver's O-line. If I'm a D-lineman that still has to play Denver this season, i remember that and hit Nalen in the mouth everytime Jake goes to take a knee or spike it. That was such a weak play by Nalen...

Denver fans, I still believe your defense is overall the best in the league. You would have won this game if you had even half of an offense. If Jake Plummer has the best tight end in the league, Antonio Gates, and the best RB, Tomlinson, along with very good receivers (instead of one) he could win with this team. Your running game is very good is very average running backs. The only problem you have is you are lacking skill players on offense.

I almost starting tuning out when the Broncos were up 24-7. But wow, what an implosion. Plummer really looked really, sad to say, old out there. Walker needs someone to get the ball to him downfield. I like Plummer, but I liked Steve DeBerg too.

I'm tired of making excuses for Jake the Fake. I don't care if we lose in the playoffs, or even make the playoffs. I hate Jake Plummer and all his stupid mistakes!!!!! Put Cutler on the field and be done with it. His arm/brain is 10x stronger then Plummer's. And as far as the defense goes, Coyer is doing a horrible job as defensive coordinator. 3 keys to success for the Broncos!
    1) Play CUTLER now! Jake needs a wake-up-call at least temporarily. Plummer is playing poorly and needs to be pushed to want to play. He's not accurate, crisp, and is making poor decisions.
    2) Attack the QB on defense. Let the DB's do their job and send 5 or six every time. This will keep the QB off balance, cause more turnovers, and utilize our LB's speed to creat havock. We did this in the 1st qtr vs. San Diego and it worked.
    3) Attack on special teams. Be fundamental, but attack.

But I'm just not sure about Jake in the big game.Yes I was there for the N.E. game last year, but ya' gotta be able to come through more than once. I was there the next week too. That day will never go away.

Don't know which game you all saw, but this game was not Plummer's fault. A defense that can't put presssure on a quarterback is going to lose. I don't think Plummer is the answer, but this game was not his fault. Great defenses win Super Bowls, we don't have one.
  • Connie Reed · 3 years ago
Love the Broncos. Travel from SD two times a year for Games.
I felt part of the problem in the second half was the play calling on both sides of the ball. Why not put Jake on the boot leg? Why play a soft zone defense? The second half was a disaster. Sure SD chargers have a great team but why not throw to your tight ends. I come to the conclusion they need to just get out there and play ball. I don't think they will go to the Super Bowl this year but I will keep yelling for them. Hope they can win a few more.
  • Torrsall in San Diego · 3 years ago
I've been watching the Chargers long enough now to suspect that the Broncos O-line is taught to hurt people. Their dubious practice of "cut" blocking has nearly ended the careers of a few players including San Diego's own Jamal Williams. Yesterday, Igor should have been allowed to get his satisfaction on that stinking, cheap shot artist Tom Nalen. The whole nation saw him try to hurt Olshansky. The only beautiful part of the play was seeing Nalen crawling around after Olshansky on the ground like the little baby that he is. Igor is going to kick his ass in December.

This was not the fault of the defense. Every defense tires when they're on the field constantly throughout the latter part of a game. The defense was in control through the first half when Denver's offense was actually producing, thereby keeping them rested. They were doing well enough to put some pressure on Rivers to keep the San Diego offensive prowess in check.

It's clear that at the root of their break downs this year, Denver's passing game (or the lack thereof) is commonly the weakest link.
  • Denver Fan in Seattle · 3 years ago
Just to reiterate a couple things said earlier:
    1. Plummer plays like a rookie and makes rookie mistakes. Cutler is a rookie who will make rookie mistakes. How much would you really expect out of Cutler when he would have to go into KC and SD against a full-strength Charger D?
    2. Look at how much better the D has been playing in the first half, just like how they were playing in the first 6 games of the season. But when your offense can't sustain a drive to save their lives, the D ends up being on the field far, far too long. Its a long season and when you're out on the field all the time, the fatigue catches up with you. Add to that the fact that Coyer tries to prevent big plays by instead giving up anything and everything under 15 yards, the D is forced to chase after wide open receivers all day, and get right back on the field when the O goes 3-and-out in the 2nd half.
    3. I knew that Gary Kubiak was too good to be a coordinator forever, but don't you think Shanahan and Plummer both really miss him right now?
    4. Stop wearing those ugly, ugly blue pants. They make the Broncos uniforms look almost as bad as the Seahawks.

The Bronco's will definately have their hands full on Thursday. The Bronco's needed overtime to beat KC at home and they never have much luck at Arrowhead. The Chiefs have already taken care of San Diego at home, the Bronco's will be an easier "ride". Fortunately, for the Bronco's it is not who you play but when you play them. The Bronco's can lament that they will have a short week, but that also leaves less time for many of the Chiefs starters to heal up, which is an advantage. And, the KC QB is still showing signs of rust from a 10 week lay-off. Still, it will not be enough. But, you can always fall back on your name calling if it helps with your insecurities.

IHATETHECHIEFS, great comment! However, uppercrust folks from Denver like yourself surely know how to spell words like "their" properly! If not, I invite you to some of our T-parks here in KC for some spelling lessons, rofl! Seriously though, this is going to be a helluva game on Thursday that's obviously going to have a profound influence on the AFC playoff picture. My prediction is both wildcards come out of the AFC West. The only team that may throw a wrench in the works is Jax. We'll see how they do tonight. They also have to come to KC in late December. Either way, if you guys win here on Thursday, I'll give it up for you guys because we won't deserve a playoff spot if we can't win at home in November.

Anyone else notice that the Broncos' final drive last night was a perfect microcosm of Jake Plummer's career? He'll make a couple of nice throws for you, hopefully he'll get a little lucky (i.e. when the opposition takes stupid penalties), he'll lead you to within 20 yards of your goal - AND THEN HE'LL FUMBLE THE GAME AND THE AFC WEST LEAD!!!

I am actually not in favor of yanking Plummer yet, but he is certainly frustrating to watch. Any chance we can get the Duke of Denver to suit up for the playoffs?

As a longtime Bronco's STH, I'm embarrassed by how the team acted at the end of the fourth quarter. I've watched the offensive line chopblock over the years but what Tom Nalen did last night was really an embarrassing move and one that should be taken care of by management before the NFL does. His "attack" on Olshansky was ridiculous. Everybody knew that Jake was spiking the ball. The Chargers had one d-lineman (Olshansky) and Nalen decides to chopblock him after Olshansky does the sportsmanlike thing and doesn't even touch our linemen. This Bronco fan apologizes to any Charger fan and any Charger that might read this. If any Bronco reads this, kick Nalen in the A$$ for his classless act for us. If any member of the Management reads this, show some class and but this clown immediately, its time to audition a replacement anyways. If any member of the NFL reads this, please do all of us and all of the NFL a favor and suspend this clown for the rest of the season for his embarrassing intent to injure Olshansky. Someone needs to stand up and say that kind of action will not be tollerated here.
  • Laura in Evergreen · 3 years ago
I have to agree completely with BigBroncosFan. Nalen's act has grown old. I was embarrassed to have my son see that show of unsportsmanlike conduct. I can understand some rough play in the heat of the battle but what he did was CRAZY! A fine is not enought, get rid of the COWARD now! My son cried all the way home, not because of the loss but because a player he really likes decided to committ an act like that.

Maybe somebody will be taken lightly by San Diego and they'll lose so maybe we can get back into the race. I don't like our chances but one has to hope.

Ali, you can do "worse." YOu could be saddled with the Raiders QB situation (Aaron Brooks & Walters). Jake is a pea brain, but is a product of his pro career. His first 5 years in the NFL he had four different coaches. Result: He never developed the skill set necessary for NFL qb success. On Chargers: Who can match up with them?
Once Merriman returns and the front 7 is healthy the entire team will be scary. Nice to see the Broncos and KC in the rear mirror with 3 home games in the next four weeks.
  • BrcsFn4ever · 3 years ago
This is getting old listening to all of the fans say "its not Jake's fault" are you kidding me. He is the leader of the offense. The offense is supposed to sustain drives to let the defense rest. No defense can play good all night if they are constantly coming in after 3 and outs. Jake is to blame completely. All he does is miss wide open receivers, miss easy out throws, fumble on key 3rd down plays, throw interceptions at the worst possible times, and walk back to the sidelines like it is no big deal. GET THAT F&$^#&# LOSER OFF OF OUR FIELD. Cutler definitely can't do any worse.

i agree with alot of fans on here, being a former QB myself at a big college, i understand these times. The broncos have only 1 big play receiver on offense that can snag pretty much any ball(Walker). Smith and marshall and kircus and scheffler and crew are not big threats(Rod is too old and slow now) therefore u need a Qb with accuracy and precision to make those receivers become more effective. Its clear cutler has the better arm and strangth, he may not be experienced or know the plays, but hey plummer cant even run the right plays or execute them correctly! lets be honest, shanahan is scared of putting the kid in too early adn ruining him for a while, i say lets put him in like the great ones were...elway....marino...favre....kelly.....manning....and let him figure it out himself! The line is good enough to give him time for a 5 second drop step throw!

The element of the Broncos team's problem is everyone from the players to the coaches. It just blows my mind that the Bronco’s defensive coaches can't figure out what to do; calling wrong defensive plays, they have personnel that does not fit well in their positions. Get the midget DB’s out of the back field; they can’t cover a 6’ plus receiver. Coyer needs glasses, the Chargers did exactly what the Colts did to us, weeks ago. They played against our weakest link. The defensive’s right side, Darren Williams has not learned and/or started to develop at all this season. Didn’t he learn from the Colts beating up on him all throughout the game? I watched two defensive linemen standing around while the Charges were in the midst of passing play, not rushing the Charger’s QB. One had his back toward Rivers (he standing looking down field away from their QB) and didn’t know he was starting to run out of the pocket. Good God, I didn’t know it was time for a smoke, if you got ‘em. The offensive line is quitting, no heart, and no passion. We need to have a running back who is a finisher. Here are my analyses to the coaches and players. We need a Defensive line - bigger and fast with heart. DB’s - (excluding Champ and Lynch), taller, bigger, faster and reacts to the game with instinct. Offense line – bigger and faster. Running back – bigger, faster and a finisher. QB – get ready Cutler, for next year. All the coaches – pick a better crop of players, brush up the basic coaching skills and play calling (both offensive and defensive), and quit with the lame duck calls on both sides of the ball.
I have retired this year, as over with. Even, if the Broncos go into the play offs; the Broncos will lose in the first go around. Use this year as a learning, fix it and get ready for next year.

Where did all those excellent players go from last year? You expect the team to improve over last year.

CB... since you know what Madden said on the play, you must not be that big a Bronco's fan since you weren't at the game like I was. I couldn't care less what Madden said about the play. Jake was spiking the ball, everyone in the place knew it and Nalen knew it. It wasn't heat of the battle since it was a spike play to stop the clock! Nalen's cheapshot was out there for the world to see. The Charger got the penalty cause the ref's as usual didn't notice the first act and called the retaliation. Stevie Wonder could have seen the cheapshot! If anybody did that to a Bronco lineman, I'm sure you would have a different opinion but that just shows your lack of intelligence and lack of sportsmanship. I'm sure you were yelling at your tv screen about the previous two unsportsmanlike calls as well!!!

Nalens a punk and everyone near us had the same opinion about him. HIs act has grown old and its time to find his replacement now! Win with honor, lose with grace!!!

Dissapointed is all I can say about the game. Jake did not throw well, and Shanahan's play calling was suspect, to say the least. If I have to watch teams convert 8 yard passes in front of D. Williams on third and 6 one more time, I think I'll go crazy. The running game was working great. Why throw deep three times in a row, and why no bootlegs in the 4th quarter. We all know Jake is more accurate when on the move.
  • JohnElway4Ever · 3 years ago
This team is not a championship caliber team by any sense of the word. Yes, we have some good, strong players, but we need them to play together as a team and last night, there was no team player out there. Jake Plummer is done. Stick a fork in him and get him outta there. What he did last night was pathetic. He used up two valuable time outs for a fumbled snap and an interception. He does not have any heart, desire, drive or leadership skills. This team is definitely lacking leadership. The season is already a bust, so why not put in Jay Cutler now and get him some valuable playing time for next season? Rod Smith, I love him to death, he has always been my favorite, has definitely lost a step and I think the retirement bug is biting him badly. He isn't as fast as he once was and can't move like he used to. We have Javon Walker, but we need another receiver with his abilities because the opposing defenses are keying on Javon. Marshall looks good, but he is too inconsistent. Either he needs more reps in practice and more playing time on the field or he needs to be cut. We need to get a team together that plays together. We need a player to step up and have a meeting with players only and get after them like John Elway did during the Super Bowl years. Who will step up though? We really don't have anyone and Jake is not the answer. He is not the quarterback we want or need on this team and his excuses are wearing thin. He had his best year last year and he blew it in the conference championship by being Jake. It's time for a change, a new direction, with a new quarterback. Mike, if you're reading this, bench Jake and let Jay start. John Elway played his rookie season with lots of ups and downs, (mostly downs,) but he is the only Bronco to be in the HOF. We need a change and the time is now. So, how about it Mike? Give Jay his much deserved start and let the new era of Broncoball begin now.
  • finsta · 3 years ago
Thank God, this is Jake's last year. He has contributed enough over the 4 or 5 years he has been with the Broncos, but lets face it he doesn't have IT in him to win us a Super Bowl. Last week, his first pick of the game was thrown well behind Walker. (accuracy issue?) Walker is like Randy Moss was in Minnesota, he makes his QB look great, because he goes up and gets those miss thrown balls. So, last night right out of the gate, by the way if you were a Charger DB you could have read it in yesterday's newspaper, Jake comes out and start throwing at Walker immediately. Wow, I bet that caught SD off guard. I will be glad to see this season come to and end, so that the future QB of this team can start next year. Regardless, how bad the season may go, Culter will not start until next year.
  • MATTG · 3 years ago
Denvers small fast defensive players work well in the beggining of the season when offenses are not quite up to speed. They looked spectacular. Now, come the middle of the season when offenses are firing on all cylinders, they get pushed around. The same thing happened in the championship game last season. The Steelers were like 7 of 8 on third and long. Plummer has never been, nor will he ever be an elite quarterback. He is limited and if he has to take the team on his shoulders it is more often than not a bad outcome. Hopefully Shanahan will have Cutler ready next year and re-think his smallish defensive philosophy.

    SHANNY'S TRICK IS NO TREAT!!

As much as I blast Jake, and he whole heartedly deserves it, I feel that we really need to start second guessing the Head Coach. I mean, he is practically our GM, too, right? He's the guy making the selections of players, assistant coaches, deciding who plays and doesn't and more importantly, what plays and schemes are being called. In my opinion, the decisions being made are continually backfiring!!!

    1) I just don't understand who we're fooling by not blitzing. We didn't improve our pass rush over the off-season, which is the No 1 reason we were blitzing to begin with! And, last time I checked, it carried us to the AFC Finale.

    2) Shanny decides to let go how many 1K runners over the past 4 years. He's so screwy that he can't pick 1 RB and just stick with him. Does he think he's fooling the other team by keeping it a secret? Uh, NO!

    3) You (Shanny) intentionally keep Jake in the pocket when you know he is more productive rolling out. Who are you trying to fool by forcing him to become what he's not - A Pocket Passer! And, not doing one bootleg against SD is unforgivable! Especially on the 4th and 4. Trickery? No, you're fooling yourself!

    4) In games where your line & running game is dominating, you abandon it and begin forcing Jake to throw the ball. Why? Who are you trying to fool? Nobody but Yourself!

    4) Although we have the fastest defense in the league, we play zone. I don't get that. That's a defense scripted for slow LB's and corners who can't cover 1-on-1. I'm sorry, I feel we can match up with anyone. By 'tricking' the league, we're just leaving 'holes' and 'pockets' wide open for accurate passers to take advantage of. I guess the trick is on Coyer and Shanny. Why even draft fast LB's and corners if we're just going to play zone? It's a waste of their talent and they'll get lazy and beat all day long!!!

    5) The west coast offense is anchored by getting the ball to your TE and slant passes to your WR's, yet, we rarely do either. Are we fooling the D by going outside the scheme? No, we're just limiting our opportunities and allowing teams to double on each WR. I mean if we're not throwing to the RB or TE, what options does Jake have? It doesn't take a defensive genius to just key on Javon or Rod, does it?

It's obvious Shanny is over-thinking entirely way to much and trying to do the opposite of what the situation calls for and the decisions being made out there are very questionable and are now costing us games!

Hey Shanny, do us all a favor and play the game the way it's to be played and let the talent you have go out and make plays! You actually may surprise the opponent who is preparing for your trickery!!

Denver fans - what do you want from a QB? Wins? Stats? Hate to say it, but Plummer thus far has a better winning percentage, higher passer rating, more yards per attempt and lower interception percentage than Elway, not to mention the single season record for yards and tie for single season TD's (check out denverbroncos.com under Records). How do you get out of Elway's shadow? Better numbers don't cut it; only a Super Bowl will for the demanding Denver fans. If you use that logic, would you want a QB like Manning or Marino? They can get you deep in the playoffs, but so did Plummer last year. Why the dismal performance of late? Maybe the pressure of a young hot-shot got to him. It would rattle most people.

What about a stud rookie QB? Leinart and Young both have lower ratings than Plummer. Big Ben? How about 17 picks. So really, why would Cutler be much better?

I'm all for an experiment with Cutler at this point, but I don't expect much. Maybe the receivers will get open for him, or stop dropping balls. Maybe the line will protect him better. I hope so.
  • Brett · 3 years ago
First, Jake Plummer is garbage. He has a great future as a "fill in" for a starter on some other team. Second, theres no way this now exposed defense of the Denver Broncos and there anemic offense can beat the Colts. Chargers have a better shot, so to sum up, I'm looking forward to next year. Go Cutler!
  • RJ · 3 years ago
I agree that Jake didn't play well on Sunday, but the defense and special teams gave the game away. SD had great field position all through the 2nd half and the defense gave up 4 TDs. The defense was so bad in the 2nd half, Shanny was afraid to give the ball back to SD with 3+ minutes & 2 time outs left in the 4th Qt. Hey, Carson Palmer wasn't able to beat SD last week at home, even with 42 points! By the way, while Cutler may be a good NFL QB someday, compared to Matt Leinart (who led SC to 2 national championships), he didn't win jack in college. Matt finally got his 1st win in the NFL against Detroit (in the 2007 number one draft pick bowl at AZ). If we play Cutler now, we'll finish 7-9. With any luck, we will beat KC & Seattle and go to SD with a record of 9-3. You never know what could happen then, that's why they play the game!

I can't take it anymore! Where has the Plummer from last year gone? Where have the offensive play calls from last year gone? We went deep to Ashley last year, I'm sure we can go deep to Javon? Where's this awesome rookie TE I've been waiting on? Can we please get a QB sack, Larry Coyer? Can we please stop giving up 3rd down completions, Larry Coyer. Can we stop being at 3rd & long, Mike Shanahan? Jake, hope Kubiak is looking for a back-up QB next year, so have fun in Houston. Sorry , Al, Ian, & DJ, you guys are the best LB group in the NFL.

I know two games in a very short time is difficult but if the Broncos do win in Kansas City it'll be just what the doctor ordered for them. A win on Thursday will get this team over the loss to San Diego and get them back on track with some much needed rest around the corner before the next game.
  • art valencia · 3 years ago
plummer is a bad qb, he will never take denver to a superbowl! denver will lose to KC. so give it to cutler to lose. cutler someday will leed the broncos to a superbowl, and win it
  • KenR · 3 years ago
Yeah, we've got quite a dilemma. Jake has been inconsistent all season, but throwing the kid in now might rattle him badly. It'll be interesting to see what plays out over the next few games though.
  • Toney Hill · 3 years ago
Shanahan really looks like anguished (ie..tormented) on the sidelines. The anxiety is showing and a far cry from the confident "Mastermind" of years gone by. He must feel like the Dutch boy on the dike plugging all the new leaks that get exposed as the season progresses.

If Denver loses to KC behind bad play of Plummer, Shanahan needs to bench him, at least for a game. Jake is not smart enough to help himself for next year. Let alone the team this year. That much is obvious. Don't expect any big contracts when you get traded next year, Jake. No fool wants a starting hippy QB with a inaccurate mediocre arm, who can't read a pass defense or pass from the pocket. The one thing Jake has has cornered, he's resilient and never seems to get hurt. I wonder how many Broncos fans are buying Voodoo dolls and putting you number on them??? Jake's play is asphyxiating! With all us fans holding our breath (for longgg stretches of time)it's no wonder Shanahan is stressed.

Shanahan, do yourself a favor -start Culter. He may be that breath of fresh air this team so desperately needs.

Everyone wants to blame the Snake. I did not see Jake give up 4 touchdowns in a row Sunday night did you? Also last time I checked Jake is not allowed to call his own plays. Its up to Coach Kevlar to start to live up to his name. Open the offense up we have some sillies on that side of the ball. I think I have seen the roll out about hmmm 20 times this season. Last year it was every other play.

Hopefully all you Denver morons get to see Nalen carried off the field with a career ending injury that is vastly overdue! His intentions were seen by the national tv audience but it seems you guys in Denver respect the guy for do it. Jamal Williams lost a season due to a cheapshot by the Bronco's and I know he hasn't forgotten it and now with Nalen's cheapshot, its time for payback!

Broncos fans, most of you have lost your mind!! I from Denver but I've been living in Minnesota for the past 20 yrs so trust me I have watch some pretty terrible football over those years. Are the Broncos a Super Bowl team? NO but are they terrible because they lost a close game to 1 of the best teams in the NFL HELL NO!! I know it have been frustrating watching the defense collapse against the Colts And Chargers over the last 2 games, but there is a reason behind the collapse. Our safetys are terrible! Lynch can't cover and when he blitz it take 5yrs to get to the QB so by time he get there the QB can swing the pass to his hot route and make Coach Coyer not want to take any more chances. Nick F isn't he always a half a step late when a pass is getting completed in from of him? I'm looking forward to seeing Cox step in and doing his job, he can't do much worse. And on Jake I agreed it's time to move on if he don't perform this week against the Chiefs, because if we lose we might as well start building for 2007.

    Jake Plummer (2006 stats)

    - Playing from Ahead
    7 TD & 1 INT

    - Playing from Behind
    2 TD & 8 INT

Jake has proven he can not play from behind; and after this last game he has shown he can not play when ahead. I would rather have B.V.P (B. Van Pelt)
  • Chargers-NateyBoy · 3 years ago
Hey Bronco’s fans, you guys have a pretty good team but you were simply outplayed – when it counted - by a better ‘group’ of football players on Sunday night.

Charger’s have just too many weapons for any defense to cover. So, don’t feel bad and just chalk it up as another loss.

BTW: Well said, BigBroncosFan. Nice to know there are still Broncos fans that simply know the difference between wrong and right. What Nalen did was not cool. Any true football fan knows this.

See you on Dec. 10th at our house. And like Big Al says, leave your hottie girlfriend behind in SD. We’ll take good care of them. : )
  • Toney Hill · 3 years ago
I'd give Nalen the benefit of the doubt that he was just playing at 100 percent. Playing at center is tough and when your opponent outweighs you by 75-100 pounds, blocking becomes a matter of technique and leverage. It's pretty much physics when you're outsized, you have to control the lower body or legs on the defensive lineman. It's obviously legal at the line of scrimmage, otherwise he would have been flagged also.
  • CB · 3 years ago
Nice to get a lecture from San diego fans on right and wrong. They have one player serving a 4 game suspension for steroids and had another player that tried to shoot a cop earlier this year.I think they might want to concentrate on football and quit yapping about Nalens blocking technique.
  • Brooklyn Broncs · 3 years ago
Keep in mind, the last two losses were to teams with the best offenses in the NFL. And both came down to the wire. It's not like they got stomped by the Cardinals.

Nicky D (message 123)--I'm just being sarcastic!! Take everything I wrote and read it exactly the OPPOSITE and that will tell you what really I think about Jake. He really is quite pathetic as a QB.
  • Mr Clean · 3 years ago
I sure am glad we dont have players on our team that shoot at policeman like San Diego does. Are they the new Ravens???Bunch of thugs masqarading as players to win at any cost??
  • JoeNsd · 3 years ago
Damn CB... No Charger shot at a cop, it was the other way around. Foley was un-armed and was shot by a small town cop here who obviously had jealousy towards a pro football player. So make sure you have correct information before you make ridiculous statements but then again, that appears all you seem to make on here.

As for the comment about the Charger suspended for Steroids, he states that it was a mistake by the league and since he has been tested many times prior to this and many times since this and came up clean, I'll take his word on it just as you would if it happened to a Bronco's player.

As for Nalen, no way he can say in was in the heat of the battle. No way anyone can say that he was just giving 100 percent, it was a spike play! EVERYBODY in the stadium knew it was a spike play. Nalen saw that Olshansky was not coming towards him and it was after the play was finished that he threw himself at the recently surgically repaired knee of Olshansky. Its a cheapshot, no matter what team you root for. Had a Charger done it to a Bronco player or any other player in this league, I'd be apologizing instead of defending the culprit.

Seems like a few Bronco's players and fans need sportsmanship lessons...
  • Chargers-NateyBoy · 3 years ago
Let's get something straight, Broncos fans. We may have had some off the field issues, like some of the other NFL teams. But none of the Chargers have ever tried to take a cheap shot and mess with someone's livelihood.

Albeit a violent sport, the NFL is still considered, by many, a gentleman's game. Play hard with heart and soul, with honor and integrity. There is no room for cheap shots when the ball is being spiked just because you got your ass kicked all night. Have some pride. Shake hands, say you got me today, but I’ll bring my best on the next game…

Quit whining so much about Jake. He's not the worst QB in the league and Cutler will not be a quick fix, nor is he a guarantee for success. He’s untested and played against scrubs in the pre-season. Your D needs to be checked along with the sissy, chop blocking, cheating O line.

The local radio talk show had Igor speaking his mind today and he along with the rest of his brothers are pretty disappointed by that cowardly act. You can bet that they'll bring a little something extra for your boys on Dec. 10th. It's going to be a dog fight!

For the record; Foley did not try to shoot a cop, he never even had a gun. The cop shot him. So, he may have had a drink and drove his car (which we don't condone), but that's no reason to shoot a guy.

Hey CB, rooting for your team is great and all. And many Chargers fans have always regarded the Broncos organization of being a class act. But if ‘you’ or any football Broncos fan can condone what Nalen did was not forthcoming, it is a sad day for Denver, folks.

    God Bless America!
  • Bill T · 3 years ago
Jesus people, get a grip before you decide to type on here. Why throw stones at chargers players while we ourselves have had players in legal troubles over the years as well as recently.

Todd Sauerbrun who was suspended for four games for drugs.

    Maurice Clarett... enough said!

    Former tight end Clarence Kay...

Darrent Williams having weed in his car and for all we know, he's a frequent smoker of it...

    Enough said!!!

As for the Chargers player Steve Foley. It doesn't take one long to check the facts of the case and see that he didn't shoot a police office or even attempt to. It sounds like an unfortunate circumstance that he got himself into.

And Merriman's case seem quite reasonable once one checks into the case on the internet. Sounds like he took a supplement that wasn't steroids but he got one container where the manufacturer put it in without putting it on the label. It could happen to any player unfortunately!!!!!! They all take supplements on a regular basis.

I won't condone what Nalen did, he should have been penalized as well. How the Chargers player reacted was even resonalbe given the situation but he will get fined as he should. Hopefully the Chargers can get past this and Nalen won't be intentionally injured on Dec 10th as has been suggested here.

Go Bronco's... keep up the pace and we'll catch them Chargers on the 10th!
  • Kevin · 3 years ago
CB you need to get facts staight---no SD player tried to shoot a cop. I challenge you to prove otherwise. I also challenge you to defend Bill Robo-nowski's pill-poppin escapade while he was on the Bronc's. Nalen's blocking is not "technique"--that move served only one purpose-to bend Igor's knee back until a ligament broke---again, I challenge you to prove otherwise.

    Byron,
Live in the present, and not in the past. You know it's eating at you that the Chargers won. Please do not sound like those pathetic Raider fans that I know in So Cal. All they have is the past. You have to admit it, this is the CHARGERS time. Go BOLTS!!!
  • LTfan · 3 years ago
Hey, CB and Mr. Clean (Message 144 and 147)--Get the story straight before you accuse someone. Steve Foley was chased and shot by an off-duty cop for suspicion of drunk driving, not the other way around. To me, Denver's offensive linemen are a bunch of thugs throwing their bodies at the knees of the defensive linemen of the other teams for years in order to win at any cost.
  • Chargers-NateyBoy · 3 years ago
    Nice, Bill T, very nice.

Did you guys just hear? The NFL officials got this one right; Nalen has just been fined $25K and Olshansky $10K by the league

It's reassuring to know that the NFL has fully acknowledged the fact that Nalen's cheap, unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. However, I’m surprised that the Bronco’s officials are ‘furious’ of the decision by the league…?

As previously mentioned, Igor's brothers aren’t very appreciative of Mr. Nalen's actions.
But we won’t go for you knees, the Chargers have too many ‘character guys’ on the team; but you can bet we’ll smack you in the teeth on every play. We are coming for you! By the way Tommy, Dec. 10th will be Merriman’s second game back, all warmed up. I know he’s licking his chops right now. If I were you, I’d be sca-old, very sca-old!

On the Nalen issue, looks like the NFL has weighed in. Igor fined $10K, Nalen fined $25. Enough said.
  • SDDenverfan · 3 years ago
To all you sorry Charger fans, quit crying about A Nalen chop block, you should focus on your own group of cheaters. Sure Foley did not shoot at a cop but he has had his fights with them over the summer along with the biggest cheater Ferriman. If you buy the BS he took a supliment and did not know it had steroids in it than you still think Floyd Landis won the Tour de France.
You babies have never won a superbowl and for that matter can't even sell out your own stadium on a winning year. The only reason your home games are not blacked out is because your owner gives the left over tickets to the military so they can take their familys to a game. Every year the Raiders fans take up two thirds of Qualcom because the pathetic San Diego fans are scared they might get beat up in their own stadium. Dec 10th come on down Bronco fans there will be plenty of tickets. The chargers got so much support in San Diego the owner is considering moving the team to the boarder town of Chula Vista. What a joke ! What's the new name going to be the Chula Vista fence jumpers.

Hey gelding fan, get a clue, your punk A linemen cheat with the cut block with the intention to take out a player, Nalen should be FINED for that cheap hit. Ohlshansky should have pummeled his ass. Your cut blocking babies took out Jamal Williams 2 years ago with the same stunt. You blabber untrue BS about Foley, and you don't even have to the stones to bring up Romonowski. The Chargers players and the fine fans of said team await your arrival Dec 10th. We will beat the both of you like a rented mule. Oh and good luck with the Chiefs, you nubs will be two back soon.

Kevin #151 wy don't you tell the whole story. Sure Foley did not shoot at a cop but he did fight with them over the summer along with juice boy Merriman. If Nalens Chop Block was so bad why no flag? If what you say is correct the refs would have flaged him and fined him. Igor called the Denver players a bunch of wimps usually the guy doing all the crying is the wimp. Igor was just mad because he did nothing the whole game, because Nalen took him out of the game.
  • chris · 3 years ago
LOVE the NFL! Nalen gets $25k fine, Igor $10k. Totally the way it should be. I hope this cut blocking stops...even though it took this weird set of events to make the nation aware of the "technique". Love the Broncos, hate the chop block.

Now, go away, I have a real football team to think about.
  • CB · 3 years ago
Sauerbraun is not on the team any longer the last time I checked, Shanahan released him and went with the guy who can't punt a lick but isn't a cheater.

Will Shottenheimer do the same with Merriman???NO WAY, and all the classy san diego fans who are so appalled at a chop block, are foaming at the mouth to get him back.

-Foley was driving drunk and on steroids and when stopped by a cop he was shot because the cop thought he was reaching for a weapon, than his passenger tried to run the cop down and is on trial for it. Talk about a bad day!

-Maurice Clarett was given a chance by the broncos to turn his career around and he refused their help. They really tried to get throught to him from what I heard. He wasn't on the broncos when he was arrested.
-Had not heard about Darrents weed problem, but he wont be around the organization very long if he does smoke it.
(They do Drug testing in the NFL, dont they???)

-I was always embarrassed to have Romo on the team.I admit he was a dirty player. He also always had a good excuse about using supplements(Like Merriman) and never admitted to it until he retired.

I think Igor is trying to justify loosing his cool on National tv and getting chewed out bigtime by his coach and almost letting Denver back into the game when they we're beaten.

The NFL has no problem fining Bronco players, ask John Lynch. I have heard other teams whin about denver's chop blocking for years and I have seen Denver actually called for an illegal chop block maybe 3 times in 10 yrs. I can't recall 1 lineman ever being fined for a chop block.
I haven't heard of any mention that Nalen will be fined either, but if he is I will be suprised.

Why did Shottenheimer apoligize to Shanahan about the Nalen episode after the game instead of the other way around??
I think if anyone showed good sportmanship it was Marty, Igor and the whinny SD fans should take notice and stop talking about retaliating.

And try not to have any knife fights in the stands this week when you play the Raiders.Show some sportsmanship!
  • LTfan · 3 years ago
This should end the discussion whose behavior was worse ---FOXSports.com has learned that the league fined Nalen a whopping $25,000 for going down after Olshansky below the knees on a simple spike play in the waning minutes of Sunday night's game. Olshansky, who retaliated with a punch and was ejected from the game, was fined less than half that -- $10,000. Even though Nalen's fine was much more significant than Olshansky's, Nalen's action drew no flag.
  • The Craw · 3 years ago
SDDenverfan - What a loser you are. Please move back to Denver - you are an embarrassment to SD. Denver has lots of good fans - you are not one of them and neither is CB - you're both a couple of losers. Kudos to the Denver fans that acknowledge the cheap shot by Nalen. Chargers have a few problemed players - what team has not?
Denver has had its share so pick a new topic. You lost - deal with it and the fact this is not your year. Keep talking about Dec 10th because that game will not be so close. Give SD its due - they deserve it.

#44 is true, beside J Walker, there are really no playmakers on offense. (wait a second, didnt TO want to play for Denver?)

#53 As a 12 year Charger fan you are not well informed. Marty doesn't make ANY offensive play calls. ALL offensive play calls are made by Cam Cameron. So get your facts together.

#67 "it’s been a long-time waiting since the Fouts/Coryell era. It is San Diego’s turn to dominate." Not a bad recovery after the Ryan Leaf debacle.

#72 Couldn'r have said it better myself
  • cb · 3 years ago
I give San Diego all the credit in the world for winning the game they came in and took it to Denver. It was a great game but they are the better team and they have a real QB, unlike Denver.

I just got sick of hearing all the whining about Nalens stupid play at the end of the game. Apparently it has paid off as 5 time pro bowler Nalen was fined more than whats his name(Igor).Whopee!!

I hope that San diego does try to retaliate in the next game, because they probably will get thrown out of the game and Denver could sneek a way with a win. I still think denver has a chance to win the division, San diego always loses focus this time of year as football is not life or death in SoCal.
  • Abraham_ChargerFan · 3 years ago
#167 CB, here's is the best RETALIATION: The Chargers defeat the Broncos in SD, thus preventing the Broncos from making the playoffs.

Did LT look like he was losing his focus?

FYI, the Chargers are undefeated this month, with the horrible Homies (Raiders)coming into town.

    LT-22 tds
    Raiders offense-8 tds

The Chargers smell a playoff bye and home game. Ergo, there won't be a let down.

    Good luck in KC.

Denver has a lot of problems that a new untested QB will never solve! Stick with Snake and you might sneak in as the 6th and final wild card team. First you have to take care of KC at KC, a tough order for sure. I can't even name your Tight End, not sure if you even carry one. See you on the 10th and leave your jackets at home, you won't need them.
